And he gave some, apostles; and some prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ (Eph. 4:11-13 King James Version).

    CHAPTER 1 - FEELING MISUNDERSTOOD

Imagine being in the world all alone. This is one of the first and most notable feelings that a prophet of God will likely experience. You may feel that no one will ever understand the revelations that you are given, that no one will understand your visions and prayers, or the extraordinary miracles that may occur in your life. You may feel as if you exist in seclusion in a world full of others who do not understand your calling.

Few mentors exist for you in that world of seclusion, as there are not many people who have lived the life that you now find yourself living. You live in a realm where the Holy Spirit is your only teacher, and the Lord Jesus is the only one who fully understands you. This may cause you to feel the need to rebel against what is transpiring within you as you find yourself in a state of constantly-changing seasons. Sometimes, you may actually prefer to be alone, feeling the occasional tendency to stray from the company of others, because you absorb too much information from the people that you interact with on a daily basis. You might stray from crowds, parties, and social gatherings, sometimes even straying from church, because you are rebelling against your very nature. This is a rebellion against your calling, a calling that has been placed upon your life. This is something that you cannot continue to run from.

Sometimes the wind seems loud; you may hear and feel everything around you. In a state of such heightened sensitivity to all things, you will feel the changing of the seasons, hearing the voices that are carried in the wind. If your home is your safe haven, you may retreat into it like a turtle pulling back into its shell. You could exist in that cocoon of safety until something frightening occurs. For example, a wandering spirit could appear before you. In that instance, and if you are like me, you would cast them out, mark your territory, and plead the blood of Jesus. You would pray for a hedge of protection to be placed around yourself and your loved ones. This in one way in which you may find yourself in constant battles, against both the flesh and spirits.

A prophet remains in a constant state of prayer and meditation. If this is your calling, you may find that your world is filled with prophecies, angels, demons, wandering spirits, miracles, wonders, and healings. The fire that burns within you is one that can never be tamed or extinguished; it burns night and day. You may engage in spiritual battles, where you will be transported by the Spirit to battlegrounds, mission fields, and into other worlds. You will conduct healings in these places, where you may lay your hands upon individuals, so that their bodies may recover from suffering.

You may feel your spirit yearning for someone to touch, someone to preach to, and someone to guide onto the path of righteousness. Prophets often experience intense emotions, such as pain and despair, deep within our spirits. We have heavy burdens on our hearts towards the things that Christ has embedded within us. In my case, I possess a deep burden for seeing and wanting people to be healed.

The most important feeling that a prophet experiences is the Spirit of God. You encounter his Spirit moving and feel what pains him and what makes him happy. You feel the desires of his heart. It feels as if he surrounds your normal world with his heavenly hosts at all times, and your world is no longer ordinary, but it is filled with the presence of holy beings that remain on watch, constantly guarding you. As a prophet, your life is filled with heavenly angels that desire to understand your world and wish to bring you an understanding of theirs. You may wonder why God has chosen you for a certain mission, and this can lead to wondering if you are going insane. Many prophets question whether they are ready for the call of God.

You probably never imagined that all of this would take place in your life. Once you question yourself and God, you might experience a dream, or other such miraculous encounter, where everything is brought to light. If this happens to you, do not wonder whether you are mistaken, because you are not. God is telling you that this is your calling. No matter how fast you may try to run from your destiny, it will catch up to you and consume you. You will most likely find yourself in a place where God and prayer will become all that you think about. Every minute of your day, you will remain aware of spiritual warfare. You may feel that there are things that your spirit knows, while your mind may not be able to grasp or describe these things.

Are you able to relate to these thoughts, feelings, and occurrences?

If so, you are an activated prophet, and you are standing in the very council of God on a daily basis. You are awaiting his instruction. The seasons have changed, and the mission of the church has changed. Your mission is to claim souls and bring them God’s healing power; you are sent to set the captives free. You may not always understand what is transpiring within you, but your duty for the Kingdom of God will be revealed when our maker deems that it is time for him to do so.

Feeling as if you do not fit in

A prophet’s life can feel lonely initially. As you walk this path, you may experience times when feel as if you are the person in the room that does not fit in. You may seem to not to have friends. People will see a tremendous light around you. You possess a loud spiritual energy, as you are bold and outspoken. Others will notice you the minute you enter a room. Your presence is pure light to others, and it should be, because you have the Spirit of God dwelling within you. You feel different, because you are. Hang in there; board this train ride into understanding your calling and the prophetic. You will find yourself in places that you never thought possible, however, you will only get there by trusting in God and his timing and grace for you.

The Old Testament prophets experienced many of the same things that you may be experiencing today. Unlike in life today, however, they received very poor treatment in their time. The path that you are walking today will become bearable. This is only a season, prophet.

The Wind of the Holy Spirit

The wind of the Holy Spirit has blown around me for my entire life, but now I am old enough to recognize and embrace his voice. Rather than pushing him away, I am able to accept instruction. I am still young enough to learn from him, but I am also old enough to know that I can no longer ignore his voice.

In the beginning, hearing the voice of God is frightening. You may feel unsure of yourself, possibly even thinking that you are hearing voices. Even more frightening is when spiritual beings will approach you to give some form of instruction. They may ask you to help them figure out how they died and why they are still stuck here on Earth. Stepping into the prophetic realm is a lot like stepping into an unknown world; everything that was once familiar to you is now very unfamiliar. The cues that you rely on to help you establish boundaries are now no longer relevant. The world that you once believed in is now transformed into a new world with new possibilities.

Throughout their walk with God, every prophet will learn that things are never what they may seem. Also, some things are not constant. For example, you may realize that God has instilled gifts within you, but you may not understand how they operate. The gifts that I once believed I had been given from God were not my actual gifts. I made gifts fit me rather than allowing myself to naturally walk into the gifts that were already ordained for me by God. Flowing in the prophetic is accompanied with a learning curve; God will decide when it is time for you to walk into your eternal destiny.

As humans, we are constantly learning and desiring to learn more at every possibility. We are naturally equipped with the mechanism for learning and retaining information. Throughout our lives, we are given clues about who we will one day become. Sometimes these hints are easy for us to guess, and sometimes they are more difficult to decipher. I feel that God allows us to nibble on the fishing pole of life every now and then in order for us to continue to move forward with our destinies. Sometimes we catch onto the bait, and at other times, we miss the hook altogether. This is not to discourage us, as we are given small and large victories when our spirits need them.

I challenge each prophet to get back into the water. If you have lost your path and want to find it again, get back into the water. Wade through the murkiness until you find your fishing pole. Put some bait onto the hook, and throw it back into the water. This is the very moment when you will listen and wait on God. When you feel the pull of God on the fishing line, be sure to reel it in quickly. Do not delay in accepting your destiny. Pull the line out of the water, and unhook the fish that you have caught. Congratulations! You have finally caught your destiny.

Are you ready to walk into your destiny, prophet? If so, continue to turn the pages of this book. I pray that the upcoming text will serve you well on your spiritual journey with Christ. While you are reading, stop to reflect on the points, suggestions, and prayers. It is a good idea to keep a notebook or prayer journal so that you can write down what the Spirit of God is telling you. No matter what you decide to do with the information found here, remember to dedicate yourself to one task: answer your call from God. Do not continue to run from it, but allow it to grab you at the ankles. Before you know it, the full power of God will come upon you and consume you. Once this happens, you will never flee from his Spirit again.

    Prayer

Lord, I pray for the patience of today’s prophets. I pray that they will learn to wait upon your timing in their lives and that they will not stray from you while they are waiting. May they have the strength to withstand what may come against them while they are waiting on you. I pray for a renewal of your Spirit within them and clear guidance from the Holy Spirit. If they are not accustomed to being guided by the Holy Spirit, I pray that you will bless them to become more sensitive to your divine ways. I also pray that you carry them throughout the Earth on your wings, filled with your glorious Spirit. May their ministries and testimonies impact the nation, and may they spread the gospel of Jesus Christ endlessly and with fervor. I pray that your prophets will no longer experience confusion surrounding their divine call from you. When they are unclear on what direction you may be sending them, I pray for them to receive clarity. I pray that your mighty army of prophets of today will stand up for your name and declare it in all of the Earth. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.

"Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit,
