    RED ALERT!

    RED ALERT!

    Raise shields!

The Testudo Generator is off-line, Captain!

By-pass non-essential systems Lieutenant, get me some power to that generator and -

The red-flashing bridge of the Star-Puncher Class, Aether shuddered and bounced with a violent report as another plasma blast exploded into the battleship – a scream punctured the air as a crewmember was electrocuted at her console, another was catapulted across the bridge, landing with a sickening thud!

Captain Amelia D’Abo could smell burning and smoke, and the warm glow of fire was discernible amongst the smoke that flooded the bridge and shone silver and scarlet in the flashes of the, 'Red Alert! Red Alert!’ siren. The robotic male voice continued to announce the warning – as if they would be oblivious to the attack!

    RED ALERT!

    RED ALERT!

    Are my shields up, Lieutenant?

Yes, Captain. Shields online, but only at thirteen-percent. We can’t take another hit like that!

D’Abo tapped the comm button on the arm of her Captain’s Chair,

Engineering, we need all power to the Testudo Generator!

"Aye Captain. We’ve lost Decks Twelve through Fifteen, I could re-route the power from them?"

Thank you, Taffy. Jump to it!

    D’Abo’s finger’s danced across the touchscreen on her armrest again;

Medical, were there any survivors from Decks Twelve to Fifteen?

    "I’m afraid not, Captain."

How many souls would that be? D’Abo agonised, pushed the thought away - she had hundreds of more souls to save, the fate of her crew depended on her:

    Shields at one-hundred-percent, Captain!

"Good old Taffy, she whispered to herself, then turned to her Number One, with all power diverted to the Testudo Generator, we have no engines or arsenal. But I’ve got an idea."

The blue-skinned, humanoid raised an eyebrow above one of his golden eyes, his pointed ear pricking-up with the movement.

I seem to remember that during development, the Union had trouble with the frequency of the Testudo plates. Instead of absorbing torpedo strikes and phaser fire, they would repel them haphazardly, bouncing them off the test ship in random directions?

Yes, Captain. I believe the problem was solved during the theta testing stage, applying Einstein’s theory of -

D’Abo held up a finger to stop her Commander, Brilliant memory Kwenis, thank you.

Tapping away at her chair arm console, she got Engineering again,

    Taffy,

    "Yes, Captain?"

Could you retrograde the Testudo plates, get them to their pre-theta settings?

"Aye, it would just be a matter of me re-writing some software down here."

So you could do it quickly?

    "In a jiffy."

    "And would I be correct
