Reviews for Ancient Aliens
11 ratings1 review
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I enjoy conspiracies a lot as recreational fun, as they challenge me to check my education and how I create arguments for my assumptions. This tv series was especially fun with their music, pleasant design and overall tone. BUT it is still just conspiracy. At times even just plain fantasy, as funny as it may be.
At this point it must be said that I have one particular problem with the series and this book: they do not aknowledge their massive shortcomings in a sufficient manner at all! :-(
The series endeavors to appear like a "proper" documentary, giving itself an aura of seriousness and status it does not deserve, while being riddled with falsehoods (some obvious and hilarious, some probably easily overlooked if one is oblivious to the academic discourse) and worst of all- blatant ommissions of valuable informations (which would debunk their arguments).
In my opinion, this series has gone too far, putting people at danger who have not enjoyed as good an education and who do not have access to the information needed to educate themselves on these topics in an easy and timely manner. In doing so I feel that the series inhibits productive speculation and interest in history as a science. Instead it promotes quarrel among people by raising arguments that have long been disproven.
By issuing a book, the series adds to its the false aura of sincerity (using the common bias that printed text holds authority) and promotes historical & scientifical inaccuracies.
It is blindfolding people by means of entertainment.
Hence, I cannot recommend it.
