    Goldilocks - Jess James

    Chapter One

Goldie was exhausted. She’d walked for hours and still she wasn’t sure where she was actually going. With only a small rucksack carrying just the basic essentials, she was tired and lost. Every single limb felt like it was on fire, and she stopped to sit by a nearby stream in the hope of regaining some energy.

What the hell am I doing? she thought to herself, feeling glum. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Get out of the city, just leave. But now she was in the middle of nowhere, with no direction or place to even rest for the night.

She had come too far to turn back now. It was nearing the evening and she wouldn’t even make it half way to the city before nightfall!

Such an idiot! she cursed herself, as she scooped a mouthful of water thirstily. So, yes, she wanted to get out of the city, get away from her disaster of a life, but was this really the answer she wondered? She hadn’t really thought through her plan. She had this idea that getting out of the hustle and bustle and getting back to nature would help heal her heart. When have I ever been at one with nature? She asked herself sarcastically as she scooped more water into her mouth. This really was a dumb move.

I’m done with men! Goldie grumbled to herself as she walked in no particular direction. Whatever happened to happy ever after?

Goldie had grown up with fairy tales and whilst she was long past the fairy tales and stories of once upon a time, she had always dreamed of meeting her ‘one true love’. She snorted out loud just thinking about it. Well, she certainly had not met her prince charming yet. In fact, she had not even come close. Fairy tales were dreams, make-believe, giving children a false promise of something that could never be, she thought bitterly.

Jacob had been a catch when Goldie first met him. She remembered that day distinctly. She had a small office job and he was a new client. When he walked into the office she felt an immediate attraction. Goldie had never been overly experienced in matters of love, but as soon as she met Jacob she was sure that his feelings were reciprocal. He couldn’t keep his eyes off her and she blushed through their entire meeting, daring to meet his eyes every so often, her heart instantly melting under his gaze.

Her friends, however, were never really sure of Jacob. When he finally did ask her out, she had accepted with excitement. He was her first real boyfriend, and she had been smitten with him from the very start. There were, of course, flaws, but Goldie had been blind to them, quickly forgiving him for standing her up on occasion, forgetting to call, or even the way he subtly put her down in front of his friends. Jacob made her heart flutter, and any wrongs he did to her were quickly forgotten with his cool smile and warm touch.

He was also her first real love in the physical sense. He wanted to take her to bed from their first date, but she had professed her innocence, begging him to wait. Perhaps, he found this a challenge; to bed her and take her virginity? she wondered to herself as she cupped the cold water from the stream and drank. He had waited, tempting her night after night, pushing her to her limits without actually compromising her virginity. Goldie had felt he was respecting her wishes but found it harder and harder to resist over those early weeks. She felt she owed Jacob for his patience, and finally gave up her treasured innocence to him.

She remembered that evening, and shook her head. At the time she had felt it was the right thing to do. But was it really? Goldie asked herself mockingly. She knew better now!

    Chapter Two

It was a Friday evening and Jacob had asked her to meet him after work for drinks with his colleagues. Goldie never questioned this weekly tradition, even though she would have loved to have a cosy restaurant booked for just the two of them. By the time she got to the bar at six in the evening he was already quite intoxicated.

Golds, honey! Jacob shouted across the bar, as she walked in.

What Goldie didn’t realise was that she could turn heads just by entering a room. She had thick, blond hair, and an immaculate peaches and cream complexion that made her crystal blue eyes stand out and mesmerise those around her. She was tall, with curves in the exact right places, and her complete oblivion to her own sex appeal made her even more attractive.

Goldie saw Jacob and waved enthusiastically back at him as he manoeuvred through the crowd to greet her. Pulling her hard against him, his wet lips covered hers. She wrapped her arms around his neck and returned his kiss. She could feel him stumble slightly, and held firm against him.
