About this ebook

NIX-9: An infamous, deep space prison set on NIX, one of the moons orbiting the systems ninth sub-planet, Pluto.

When bounty hunter Jahn Outlaw embarrasses one of the systems most beloved stars, he finds himself charged and headed to one of the same deep space prisons that he's sent hundreds of other interplanetary offenders. But, after a wild night of bonding with the inept guards assigned to keep him out of trouble, Outlaw discovers his only daughter has been imprisoned and in the process of being transferred to the worst lock down in the solar system, NIX-9. Now, determined to break her out, Jahn has to convince his guards to help him plot his daughter's rescue. Little do any of them know that by volunteering for this mission they're setting themselves up for front line seats to a civil war that's been brewing in our solar system for over over 100 years.

“Action, adventure, and a little lizard love. It's like Star Wars meets Guardians of the Galaxy, only it all taking place right in our own solar system's backyard.” - Michael E. Esser, Creator/Author

First, I have to admit that I am a self-confessed lover of all things geeky, sci-fi, or superhero-related. I honestly feel everything is made better when you have fun experiencing it. For that reason, I write like I want to read: light, logical, and very easy to digest. (No long-winded prose or two-page scene descriptions here!)Zombies, space, monsters, glimpses into alternate futures, and tales of fantasy mixed with how I feel my characters would really react if they were really placed in the odd settings and positions I decide to put them in.When I'm asked about my writing style, I like to say that I write for the "I'll wait for the movie" types.

As I fantasize about the future and a world that I will not last long enough to see, I think about my children and the fact that maybe someday my grandchildren might be able to look back and realize that your great-great grandpa had some weird ability to see some of what was coming.

If you kids are reading this, I love you and I'm going to be really jealous if a lot of this stuff has come true!

    Never stop dreaming.

    CHAPTER 1NE

    MARS-STATION4, REMOTE MARS DESERT

    21:11 Earth Standard Time

The wind has stirred up the sediment in the cold, red desert night and stars are prominent in the moonless sky.

Being that the Mars population has had almost two century’s to grow, the distant light of the immense farm of interconnecting dome pods is ricocheting off the almost completed terraformed atmosphere in a display of brilliant greens and purples.

In the Martian sand that lines the route from the enclosed cities to the outskirts, are a series of paths used to travel between the new construction that's constantly taking place and the existing facilities. They appear to be heavily used and worn down with layers upon layers of rover tracks.

A smaller series of interconnected domes lay at the end of the tracks down at the bottom of the nearby valley. In the center of the structures is an elevated platform that is meant for incoming transport vehicles.

What looks like one of the twinkling stars in the southern sky, is getting bigger. The light from the object grows brighter and larger as it approaches, fast at first and then slows down dramatically.

The ground rumbles and whatever dust has collected around the small remote base is now airborne, as the ship hovers over the landing pad and maneuvers itself into position.

As the transport vehicle touches down with a thud, the pilot inside contacts the base with arrival instructions.

Mars four, transport jay-two-three has landed safely carrying... the pilot pauses to consider his thoughts about his cargo, ...him?

Inside the base, the other communication controllers have gathered around the main controller, who is now communicating with the transport.

Him, really? the controller asks with his co-workers standing over his shoulder.

The pilot's reply comes through the speaker, loud and clear, Yep, it's him.

Outside, the pilot sits impatiently waiting for a response. Suddenly, the platform locks reach out and engage the ships landing gear. Once locked into place they hiss, as the hydraulic mechanisms controlling the platform engage and the transport ship begins to lower down into the underground receiving area.

Once inside, the outside bay door seals and the rest of the base is slowly revealed as the massive sliding doors separating them crank open and into place.

The few people left on the base during the holiday have gathered to see the arrival of the infamous inmate.

As the door moves out of the way and the shadows clear, the curious audience is greeted by two guards, one standing on each side of their prisoner.

Hands cuffed in electromagnetic shackles and wearing old dirty boots, baggy cargo pants, a black tank top t-shirt with a beaten up bulletproof vest and a smirk on his blonde, unshaven face is the menacing bounty hunter.

The tiny crowd parts, as the three men pass through on their way to processing.

Corridor after corridor, the prisoner and his guards methodically make their way through door after door, gathering stares and whispers each step of the way.

How far do we have to go? District 12? the prisoner barks out sarcastically at his captors.

One of the guards instantly gives him the shut the hell up look, while the other answers with a shove.

Just keep moving, the guard adds, If you weren't such dick to that innocent sweetheart, we wouldn't have to spend all this time keeping you separated from the general population.

Come on guys, I can't help what he-she ate before I went to pick her up.

The three enter an elevator and turn around just as the doors close.

Inside an obscure room, that looks more like a recreation area, sits a beautiful young lady hybrid named Echo. Her long black hair is pulled up into a ponytail over her large scale covered cranium. She looks bored as she clicks through pictures on her three dimensional screen.

A large hybrid guard stands at attention by the door. His uniform is immaculate and the stern look on his face seems intentional and meant to let everyone know that he's all business. His name plate reads, Walker.

The door opens and in walks one guard, followed by Jahn and the other guard.

Echo instantly stands and perks up,
