About this ebook

Abigail Miller has always believed that life is not easy.  Neither was it meant to be.  With strong Amish roots, she is adamant that hard work and perseverance are desirable, Godly traits.

The talented doll maker finds herself widowed at age twenty-five.  A few years later, when faced with losing her doll shop, the handsome, good-natured Samuel Schrock enters her life. Abigail is further confused.  Though legal within the Ordnung to remarry when widowed, Abigail must decide if it is it the right decision for her.  Can she let go of the past and the belief that her destiny is to spend the remainder of her life in mourning?

Abigail finds herself not only in love with Samuel, but with another as well, a baby by the name of Eliza Grace who is in need of a loving home.  But Samuel’s newly discovered family fortune threatens to leave their love relationship bankrupt for she has deep beliefs that the abundance of money is rooted in evil.

When it comes to Abigail’s rigid rules, can she find a balance between her convictions that are self-imposed and those that are truly Gott’s own?  Will her legalistic views limit Gott’s blessings or will she find the grace to contain them?

    Chapter 1

Fall was finally in the air!  Abigail Miller took a long breath of the fresh, crisp air.  It was her favorite season of the year, a promise of change.

The ride into town had been a lovely one.  The fact that she was riding in an open buggy meant she could experience the signs of autumn to the fullest.  The leaves on the trees were turning tones of deep reds, golds and bright yellows.  The early morning air was so brisk, she pulled her cape a little tighter around her shoulders.  Still, she welcomed the coolness.  It had been a long, hot summer and she was relieved it was finally fading.

The day already held the hint of good things in store, literally.  In the back of her buggy, she had ten boxes of handmade dolls to deliver to her shop.  It had taken her months to make them.  She was never one to rush a sewing project, especially not her beloved dolls but she was trusting the new supply would drum up some much needed extra business from the tourists who would hopefully show up for fall festivities.  Lord knows she needed the sales with the summer months having been a total loss.

Abigail guided the buggy around the bend into the Englischer part of town and headed for the shop.  It always gave her joy to see her very own, handcrafted sign Abigail’s Amish Dolls and Toy Shoppe.  It was never a prideful thing but rather a feeling of accomplishment.  She had, indeed, established the store against all odds.

As she pulled up to the hitching post, something unusual caught her eye.  Hey, what are you doing here? she called to a man who was
