Gifted to Do Our Work - James Bruyn

    Author

    Introduction

How has God prepared us for our work?

We work in environments where trusting in God and acknowledging that God has gifted us to do our work seems irrelevant. Sometimes it feels like the cost of working with integrity, and standing firm in our faith, is too high a price to pay.

God has blessed you with the skills and abilities so that you can make a unique contribution to this world, and God’s kingdom, through your work. You can trust God in every situation you find yourself at work. He will provide you with the strength and the courage to honor him in everything that you do at work. Monday Mornings are glorious opportunities for you to see God at work in your workplace and wherever you go.

This is the second in a series of Bible studies designed to provide an opportunity for you to carve time out of your schedule and gather with others to read the Bible together and discuss what it means to integrate your faith into your daily work lives. Embark on this journey of discovery in your own devotions, or share this journey with a friend or mentor, or with a group of co-workers or your small group.

As you go through these studies, affirm one another for the precious talents, gifts, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding God has given you. May you hear God speak to you through his word. Remind each other that when we do our work, we’re serving the Lord. May nobody be able to find fault in how you do your job or your attitude towards your work. May God’s name be glorified on earth and in heaven.

    How to Use These Studies

If you’re leading a small group using these studies, feel free to adapt them to the unique style of leading and communicating that God has blessed you with. As you introduce a study, share your own story about the topic. Your story will help your small group relate to the topic, and help foster a safe place where your group members can share their joys and struggles in the workplace.

The people in your small group will get the most value out of these studies if each is given a chance to share their thoughts on every question. One effective way to use these studies is as follows:

    1. The group members introduce themselves and answer the ice breaker question included with each study.

    2. The leader shares his or her own introduction to the topic.

    3. One or more people read aloud the Scripture for the study. You may find it helpful to have the Scripture read aloud twice.

    4. Split the group into smaller groups of three or four. This allows everybody to respond to each of the
