About this ebook

Since childhood, I have experienced several very unusual, unnatural events, a couple bordering on the supernatural. “Supernatural” being the natural as yet discovered and explained by modern science. This book will also summarize some very funny events during our days with the circus and while growing up in “Sin City,” Indiana.

Everything in this book is true with multiple witnesses experiencing the same abnormal or paranormal events. This manuscript will use modern scientific discoveries, logic, postulates, axioms, famous quotes, reports of miracles, military documented UFO reports, and some very strange life experiences to stir thought about the known and unknown, the seen and the unseen, the earthly and the heavenly.

My long, eventful life has taught me that there are definitely higher life forms than humans. This agrees with what has been written and documented by all people of knowledge throughout recorded history, no matter what religious denomination or nation of origin. From the earliest Sumerian writings to the American Indians - all believed in spiritual, higher life forms, usually Angels (beings of light) and demons (beings of darkness) and in an Almighty God or Supreme Being.

    A Supernatural Theology - James E. Duffy

    Introduction

Since childhood, I have experienced several very unusual, unnatural events, a couple bordering on the supernatural. Supernatural being the natural as yet discovered and explained by modern science. This book will also summarize some very funny events during our days with the circus and while growing up in Sin City, Indiana.

Do you believe in God – a creative force in the universe? Are you someone of strong faith or do you have doubts about your religion? Are you a devout atheist. No matter what your answer to these fundamental questions, you will find many of the topics in this book interesting, thought provoking - an adventure in modern theology.

    Maximum pleasure; minimum sin!

    Chapter 1

    Month Of The Tornados

    Introduction

This chapter will summarize three storm funnel clouds that came down within feet of us in less than a month. It is not the unlikeliness of this happening in such a short time span; it is what the clouds did that has enlightened me to the fragility of our reality and how Angels and demons can sometimes control the weather. We will also discuss the very deadly Joplin tornado where dozens of children claim winged Angels protected them.

    Evil Winds

Many Christian theologians believe that bad weather is brought about by demons. One example, Thomas Aquinas thought that tornados, floods, tidal waves, hurricanes, and other weather catastrophes were caused by fallen angels trying to injure humans.

Saint Thomas Aquinas was an Italian Dominican friar, Catholic priest, and very influential philosopher and theologian. Thomas embraced several ideas put forward by Aristotle, whom he called the Philosopher. Thomas attempted to synthesize Aristotelian philosophy with the principles of Christianity.

The Catholic Church honors Thomas Aquinas as a saint and regards him as the model teacher for those studying for the priesthood. He is indeed the highest expression of both natural reason and speculative theology.

In the Bible (́Ephesians 2:2), the apostle Paul when referring to the devil said, You once walked according to the prince of power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience. The air or atmosphere was then considered to be the dwelling place of the demons.

One of our families most wild and unexplainable weather related experiences occurred when three tornado funnel clouds with high winds came down directly over our heads in one month. The tips of the well-formed funnel clouds on two of these occasions came within a few feet of our boat and us on Lake Michigan.

The odds of this happening, three tornado funnel clouds forming directly overhead, in such a short time span (less than 30 days) is billions or trillions to one. Most people never see one tornado, even from a distance. We experienced three well-formed funnel clouds, up very, very close, in less than a month.

    Clearwater Water Spout

The first weather event was a large waterspout that occurred in Clearwater, Florida in about 1999. We were staying at Sheppard’s Inn Motel located on a causeway or river right off the Gulf of Mexico, next to Clearwater Beach.

A dark cloud had been hovering very low in the sky directly over our hotel for three or four days. It was a black cloud with white edges shaped like a triangle. The strange cloud was about 100 yards wide, hanging about 500 feet in the sky.

My family and in-laws actually made fun of the cloud that floated over our motel for days and blocked the sun at high noon. How could a cloud remain stationary and shaped like a triangle for so long with the wind blowing briskly off the ocean everyday?

On the day of the waterspout, I heard a whirring sound and looked up to see the longest funnel cloud I have ever seen anywhere. It was coming out of that same triangular cloud. It was a narrow but very, very long white funnel cloud. It extended out of the cloud horizontally for about 300 yards and then dropped down behind other motels on the beach and into the waterway. Except for this triangular cloud and its funnel, it was a clear day, with no severe wind, and no storms.

After running to get my family and some friends to safety inside the motel, my son Derrick and I went out on our upper balcony and shot video of the waterspout. It damaged several docks and some boats but no one was injured. The tornado or waterspout lasted for almost five minutes. The weather event was summarized in the next day’s Clearwater newspaper.

When examining our close-up video footage of the waterspout, we could see what seemed like a bright white worm screw gear shape near the base of the funnel cloud. It was spinning at high speed and seemed to be the source of the high winds at the base of the waterspout. Could this have been an Angel or energy being playing with the water in a harmless manner (no loss of life just a little property damage)?

    Chicago Funnel Clouds

After returning home from our Florida vacation and the triangular cloud waterspout, Jay and I took our boat out on Lake Michigan with four friends. We trailered our boat out of the new Hammond Marina/Casino.

Our boat was a go fast futuristic looking 1990 28-foot Glastron Carlson with twin big block Chevy engines making 750 horsepower. Carlson is the famous British boat designer for the James Bond movie boats. Remember the boat with a car like roof and large rear wing, or the huge yacht that separates in half to form a large speedboat? Those were Carlson designs.

We left the Marina and traveled about 25 miles north to attend the Taste Of Chicago and a downtown open-air music concert in the park. The lake was smooth and the sky was clear.

On our way to Chicago, I excitedly explained to our friends about the weird triangular cloud that spawned a waterspout over our hotel in Clearwater, Florida. I talked about the waterspout all the way to Chicago because it was so rare of an experience and exciting to me. How could the Clearwater cloud stay stationary and develop such high winds in the waterspout on a calm stormless day?

When we got a couple of miles from downtown Chicago, we were shocked to see a huge dark cloud floating right around the tops of the Chicago skyscrapers. It was one of the blackest clouds we have ever seen. The huge disc shaped cloud hung low and motionless in the sky, hiding the tops of the Sear’s Tower and other tall buildings. Only the Chicago skyscrapers in the center of the city where covered by the black cloud. The black cloud did not hide the tall buildings to the North of the river and next to the shoreline.

The motionless cloud instantly reminded me of the stationary cloud in Clearwater but it was much larger. Chicago’s black cloud was about a quarter mile long and about 500 feet thick. Obviously, anyone in the top of the skyscrapers surrounded by the black cloud had little or no visibility out of their building windows. What made it so weird was that this was the only cloud visible in the whole sky. The rest of the sky was bright blue.

There was little or no wind, just a light breeze coming out of the west. There were no other dark clouds in the sky and it was basically a clear, sunny day. We could see the white smoke from all of the vendors cooking their food slowly drifting out over the lake, but the dark cloud remained motionless, obscuring the tall buildings.

As we navigated into the Chicago Marina, right next to the Shedd Aquarium, a funnel started forming on the south end of the huge, black cloud. The sharply pointed funnel cloud moved slowly toward us. It stretched from the skyscrapers, over Grant Park, and down toward us. Our boat was now only a few yards from the sea wall and shore. The dark black funnel cloud stopped and hung directly overhead, only about 6 feet from us and our boat.

I stopped and circled the boat to look at the funnel cloud and was not afraid since there was no wind as with a normal tornado funnel cloud. The funnel was not rotating but appeared as a dark black opaque cloud.

After two or three minutes, we experienced a microburst of super cold air blowing straight down around us at approximately 60-70 mph, churning up the water into a mist all around us. The microburst of super cold air scared my wife and friends. My wife went down inside the cabin for safety while my friends stared in fright at the pointed, stationary funnel cloud while feeling the cold blast of air coming straight down around us.

To our amazement, another small cloud formed directly over the entrance to the Shedd Aquarium. The small, low hanging cloud was churning grey and bright white but did not move. It was only about 200 feet above the ground and about as big as a school bus.

Then, a solid, gray streak shot out of the small cloud and came down in front of the funnel cloud. It looked exactly like a huge, perfectly shaped, curved Arabian sword with angled sides and sharp edges that tapered down to a point. It was so defined and sharp in contrast to the clear sky that it looked like a solid object protruding out of the small churning cloud. Even with the wind still blowing down with considerable force, the tip of the funnel cloud and the solid streak stayed perfectly stationary, motionless for several moments.

    Nikola Tesla

The churning cloud’s gray streak or sword was about 200 feet long, stopping about 6 feet above the water between the tornado funnel cloud and our boat, as if it was protecting us from the forming tornado and potential lightning.

Being ignorant of the real danger, I circled the boat under this unbelievable weather phenomenon several times. The gray sword coming out of the small cloud and the black funnel cloud never moved an inch, even with the high winds of the microburst. Astonishingly, the funnel cloud and curved sword-like streak stayed motionless in the sky only a few feet above us for several minutes.

This very weird event was viewed by hundreds of witnesses on the Chicago shoreline. When I came to my senses, I navigated the boat down the seawall and away from the unbelievable weather phenomenon. After traveling about 100 yards North, I looked back and could still see the curved streak and the funnel cloud. From the side, the sword-like streak appeared as a thin straight line in the sky next to the black funnel cloud.

The huge black cloud dissipated and the rest of our day on the lake was fun with good weather. We docked our boat on the seawall at the S-curve in the marina and walked to the Taste Of Chicago.

When we entered the crowd at the music concert, people were screaming, Jesus is in the house. This reinforced my thoughts that the small cloud was an Angel Of Light protecting us from the dark cloud (Fallen Angel Of Darkness). Its evil intentions to scare and harm us were real and seen by many at the music festival.

    Killer Tornado Number Three

One week later, we went boating again on Lake Michigan at Burn’s Ditch, near the Indiana Dunes. We planned on going to boater’s beach next to a coal-fired power plant that had a lazy river of warm water for cooling the power plant’s heavy electrical equipment. We liked to float in the warm water, down the sandy waterway as it emptied into Lake Michigan.

My daughter, Danielle, her baby Cassidy, her boyfriend, and I were on the outing. I checked the weather reports and the day was supposed to be sunny, calm, with little or no chance of rain or storms. However, being weary of the strange funnel cloud from the previous weekend, I told everyone to let me know if they heard even the slightest sound of thunder or saw any thunder clouds so we could leave right away.

After about two hours of swimming and playing on the beach, Danielle’s friend told me that he had just heard a faint thunder clap, which I did not hear. I loaded everyone in our boat, pulled anchor, and took off at high speed for the safety of the river with its high sand dunes on both sides. With winds building rapidly, we docked the boat on the seawall at the Marina right next to the boat ramp.

Then, within a minute or two, I looked up to see a funnel cloud forming and coming down at our boat and us from the west. I told Danielle to get the baby and her friend down under the cabin were they might be safe. Our boat was docked next to a tall concrete seawall and should have been protected from the high winds approaching.

Something told me that this was the same dark cloud that seemed as if it wanted to harm us only days earlier in downtown Chicago. I prayed to God to protect my family and slowly walked up the boat ramp with the funnel cloud now only a few yards above my head. It seemed as if it was after me.

I prayed to God that if you want to take me and it was my time to die, OK. I asked that God spare my daughter and granddaughter but take me if necessary. It was too unbelievable that a funnel cloud again had come out of the sky and followed me up the boat ramp.

As I walked near the top of the boat ramp, the winds kept picking up until the rain felt like bee stings all over my bare back and legs. People were screaming and running into the main brick building at the new marina. Dozens of lightning strikes hit large steel, high tension, power line towers in rapid succession.

When getting to the top of the boat ramp, I felt the wind starting to blow hard enough to begin lifting me off of my feet. I grabbed the back of a parked pickup truck and held on for dear life. The funnel cloud continued east over my head. In a minute or two, the winds subsided. We loaded our boat on its trailer and went home.

To me, it was like a fallen angel or evil force had picked me out again for a very horrifying experience and to show me that there are unexplainable, unseen, supernatural forces, both good and bad, at work in our universe. Try to imagine if you had experienced these same series of weather events in rapid succession.

I read the newspaper the next day and found out that the freak storm had come out of nowhere. High winds first did damage in East Chicago at a small summer festival, blowing tents, popcorn machines, and other objects into the crowd injuring several people. The sudden storm then traveled due east about 35 miles before reaching us at the marina.

After the funnel cloud passed over our heads, it touched down east of our location and blew a small car into a lake killing a mother and her child in Porter County, Indiana. Why did this evil wind kill an innocent child and her mother but spared me after a second attempt? Only God knows. Maybe these things happened so I could testify to you about my faith strengthening experiences.

Surviving the almost supernatural action of the wind and clouds on three separate occasions was like living in a real science fiction movie. Being a writer at the time, I did not know whether to write about this event or report it to someone. After getting up there in years, I finally got the courage to write about these events.

Recently, in 2015, a huge F5 tornado came through northern Illinois, killing two people. It was a miracle that more people were not injured or killed as the powerful tornado just missed several high population areas as if steered away from them by some miraculous force (Angels of light). Several tornados throughout modern history have destroyed hundreds of homes and flattened small towns with little or no loss of life.

This train of thought is parallel to the Bible, Quran, and other historic writings throughout history. Angels of light are in a constant battle with the demons of darkness. The Angels of light (white cloud) fought to protect us from the demons (dark cloud).

    The Butterfly People

An F5 tornado hit Joplin, Missouri on May 22, 2011. It was one of the deadliest tornados in U.S. history. It killed 161 people and injured more than 1,000. [3]

Wind speeds exceeding 200 mph shredded entire neighborhoods. Almost 1,100 homes and buildings were totally destroyed. Dozens of children reported seeing what they all called Butterfly Beings that hovered over them and protected them from the destruction and death occurring all around them.

One amazing story concerns a young girl having repeating dreams months before the Joplin disaster.  She said that Jesus came to her in dreams and told her that her parents and other people would be killed and sent to heaven. Even with repeated counseling, the little girl often cried at school trying to explain her dreams or apparitions of the horrible death of her parents.

A few months later, the Joplin tornado leveled the little girl’s house and killed her mother and her father as she had predicted. The little girl said, Jesus in a glowing white robe hovered over her and protected her from the devastation.

A deputy sheriff who spotted a little 4-year-old boy in an open field east of Joplin immediately following the storm tells another incredible story. The deputy ran to get the little boy and found there was not a scratch on him! The child told him his name and where he lived-which was in West Joplin, a distance of more than six miles from where he was picked up by the deadly tornado! The deputy asked how he got there to the field. The boy replied: The glowing Angels carried me through the air and set me down here. [4]

How could this boy be pulled up into 200 mph winds, travel six miles through the air, be sat down on the ground, and with not even a scratch from flying debris? I would say this was another miracle.
