About this ebook

"You may think I have lost my mind in writing that prisoners in physical prisons can be free while in prison. If we can be honest about prisons, however, we will understand that there’s more than one type of prison. Some people have never stepped foot in a penitentiary and are imprisoned every day of their lives. There’s the prison of our minds, the prison of our personalities, the prison of our hearts and the prison of our souls. These prisons keep our minds locked up in rehearsing our wrongs and the wrongs of others. They keep our personalities bound in repetitive destructive behaviors. They keep our hearts locked up in poisonous pain, pumping the hurt from past disappointments through us constantly. They keep our souls imprisoned to the wounds of our childhood that have festered over the years...You may be physically stuck where you are for a time, but you do not have to be stuck in guilt, condemnation, wickedness, sin, pain, depression, anger, rage, bitterness, torment or disturbing emotions. With God, you can be behind bars and free. "

    MY CRIME.

It’s almost time, the guard said with menacing disdain in his voice. He was standing next to the whipping post holding the rope that was soon to be around my wrists. I looked around the punishment arena with helpless devastation. Everyone was in his or her place, ready to go, all for me. The other guards laughed out loud in excitement as they tested out their whips and weapons on the ground. They couldn’t control their enthusiasm as they thought about slapping them against my back. One man stared at me holding a spear in his hand. Hatred was screaming from his face, as he couldn’t wait to cut through my heart. The others snickered to themselves as they tested the strength of the wooden cross that was prepared for my body. They took such pleasure in imagining me on it, gasping for air. They sharpened the nails and beat their hammers on the ground. The crowd in the stadium hollered out threats with large rocks in their hands. They cheered as they considered pelting them into my face while I hung on the cross. They were all disgusted with me. I would be humiliated as I dangled before them with all of my sin exposed. My death was their prize. They chanted like an ominous choir the countdown to my demise. The bells rang. The hour had come. It was time for me to die. The guard by the whipping post came and grabbed me by my hair, yanking me to the ground. I hit the dirt hard and with my hair clenched in his fingers, he dragged me to the whipping post. When he got there, he threw my head down to the ground, grabbed my wrists and bound them around the post. I cried, but I did not fight. I knew I was guilty. He signaled to the men holding the whips and weapons. It was their cue. I could hear their cackles getting louder and louder as they came closer and closer. The crowd roared. In a resolute, authoritative voice, the guard gave the command.

    Begin.

    The men reared back
