Chapter 1

Jaxon Flores took another look at the town of Shore Point, the soft breeze sending familiar scents curling through his senses. It had been so long, nearly ten years since he had been back, and right at that moment he couldn’t remember why he’d ever left.

Well he knew why, his mother had needed him. Now that he was home again, he couldn’t wait to see his father and the rest of the Panther Pack—his friends, his family.

He locked his car and jogged to the nearby cafe that was nestled on the corner of the main street. His feet trudged through the thick snow on the ground as he went, and he couldn’t help but smile. It seemed like forever since he had seen snow, let alone had a white Christmas.

An Australian Christmas was sweltering, the summer sun shining down as everyone hung out by the pool and cooked on the barbeque. Now here in Shore Point, about two hours north of London, he was rugged up to the nines in the thickest jacket he owned as he took in the twinkling festive displays strewn throughout the street.

When he pushed open the door of the cafe, a rush of warmth and seasonal carols filtered through the air. Tugging off his beanie and scarf, he made his way further inside. Thankfully it was mostly empty and Jaxon didn’t have to wait long to be served. He had driven for the last eight hours, having hired a car straight from the airport. The flight from Australia, where he had resided with his mother for the last ten years, had been excruciatingly painful, and the lack of coffee on the flight for the final few hours had nearly sent his caffeine deprived brain mad.

What flight company didn’t make sure their aircraft was fully stocked before they took flight, anyway? The same damn people who also mixed up seats and forced a six foot eight man into an economy chair not even fit for a child, that’s who.

Jaxon was snapped out of his internal cursing when the cashier called next. Stepping up to the petite little blonde behind the counter he glanced up at the board, frowning at all the fancy drinks they had. Ummm…what’s the strongest you’ve got?

The girl looked up at him as if he were an idiot. Great customer service.

We've got the Green Eye, the Red Eye, the Black Eye…

He barely contained his laughter. What, no Tie Dye? he drawled.

The cashier shrugged, clearly not seeing his humour. No. But we have the Black Tie, the Red Tie...but they’re teas.

Why did he even ask? I’ll take the Black Eye, thanks.

Sure. Is that a small, regular, large or super?

Damn, he really just wanted a coffee.

Rubbing the back of his neck, he closed his eyes briefly before answering. I’ll take the super, thanks.

Great. That’ll be two pounds.

He handed over the correct amount and in exchange received a stand with a number on it, and was instructed to take a seat. Heading to the table near the window, Jaxon shrugged off his coat and sat down with a heavy thud, his body and mind exhausted. The soft music and gentle sounds of the café lulled him into a trance, and allowed himself to be pulled under just a little, while he waited. As tired as he was, Jax felt extremely grateful that the clinic he was due to start working at, wasn’t expecting him until after New Years. It would give him plenty of time to settle in, beat jet lag, and find his feet again. Not that being a doctor in England would be any different to Australia. Though he suspected he’d have to deal with less deadly insect bites.

His heavy lids drooped down as his body sank into the cushions. Scratching at the scruff of his beard, Jax finally felt all the tension drain away, only to shoot open when the most delicious smell all but slammed into him.

What the hell? He twisted around, trying to work out where that heavenly scent came from. Jaxon’s jaw dropped and his eyes widened when his gaze landed on the most tantalising denim covered arse, sticking up in the air near the counter. The owner of said arse was swishing his booty around to the music playing through the speakers while sweeping up something, a small dustpan and broom in hand.

Jaxon was mesmerized.

When the man finally stood up straight and turned around, Jaxon was captivated by the most stunning amber eyes he had ever seen. With fine brown hair that held a little length to it and eyeliner highlighting one of his best features, the guy wore what looked like a waiter's apron over the most sinfully tight pair of black jeans with a white short sleeve t-shirt that fit his physique like a second skin. The man seemed to have noticed he had gained an admirer, his gaze darting around the shop until he zeroed in on Jaxon. Jaxon’s pulsed picked up speed, a grin forming on his lips as the younger man blushed, eyes flicking away quickly, only to come back. Jax felt his eyes flash as his desire grew. His normal colour of hazel bled out for only a second to reveal the bright orange of his animal. Orange marked him as a future Alpha. Not the yellow of a Beta or Gamma, and not yet the red of an Alpha, like his father. And certainly not he blue of an Omega without a pack.

A groan slipped free as he watched the man’s tongue peek out to swipe over a plump bottom lip. Jaxon followed the move like a lion tracking its prey—well, a Panther.

The gorgeous creature could have only been in his mid-twenties, lean and muscular, he was hard in all the places Jaxon preferred. Now the only thing he needed answered—who was he?

The girl behind the counter broke through his trance, calling over and distracting the waiter. Damn, he muttered in disappointment.

His mood lightened, however, when he realized the girl had called the waiter man over so he could deliver Jaxon’s drink. Suddenly he wanted to kiss her.

He tracked the young man’s steps, each one bringing him closer and closer, the alluring smell growing stronger. His cock perked up, hardening in his jeans, the metal teeth of his zipper pressing so hard he swore he would have indents soon.

Here you go, sir. Is there anything else I can get you?

Eyes that now looked closer to whiskey then amber, stared at Jax through thick, black lashes that mesmerized him.

As a matter of fact, there is. His voice had dropped, low and husky as he breathed in more of his mate’s scent.

S-sorry? The young man’s held tilted backwards to expose the long pale stretch of his neck and his eyes widened as Jax stood, moving closer.

No need to be sorry. You’re my mate, but you already knew that, didn’t you? he whispered into the young Panther’s ear. Jax felt his body tremble as he pressed them closer together. So how about you tell me your name?

M-my name?

Jax gave a lazy chuckle. Yes, sweetheart. I’d like to know the name of the man I plan to spend eternity with.

E-eternity? He could feel the other man relax against him slightly, hear his brain turning over and spinning in confusion. He also knew the moment the younger man’s brain caught up with what was going on. No!

Jax stumbled back, shocked at the almost violent outcry. No?

Out of the corner of his eyes, Jax noticed the girl behind the counter tense and take a step in their direction. The move was almost…protective.

Nick, is everything okay? She asked.

Nick. So that was his mate’s name.

Nick’s eyes darted around wildly as if searching for something...or someone. Shit! Was his mate already in a relationship with someone else?
