    INTRODUCTION

This is the second book of a new series titled, The Word of God Library. God is leading me to have a few commentaries published that I have done over the years of various books of God’s word, the Bible. This present book was preceded by God’s First Letter to The Thessalonians and may be followed, God willing, by God’s Gospel Account Given Through Matthew, God’s Gospel Account Given Through John, God’s First Letter To The Corinthians, God’s Second Letter To The Corinthians, and God’s Word To The Scattered Believers As Given Through James. These commentaries are intended to be devotional and heartwarming in nature and as practical as possible, to help believers live out their faith in these last days of the present age.

And what would be of great value in knowing at the outset here is that we will also be making reference in this book to the four ages of time and also to the first and second coming from Heaven to earth of God’s precious Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, including the mention of the first and second stage of His second coming. If there are any readers who are not familiar with the four ages of time, or in regards to the two comings of God’s precious Son, you may want to read about these two topics in the Addendum before beginning the book. Then when one encounters these terms in the text, it will be far easier to follow the truth that this being expounded there. There is also a third section of the Addendum dealing with how one may have a personal relationship with God, if there are any readers who may not already have that vital relationship.

What should also be mentioned before closing this Introduction is that after completing 21 years of formal education and then spending almost 28 years working in Project Engineering and Management in the Corporate offices of a large utility, God called His servant as a non-denominational evangelist in early 1999 and then sent him out over 3000 miles, away from family and friends, to the place of service God assigned, which is where His servant has been and is still serving Him as evangelist, counselor, author, editor, and publisher. The author is a widower with three adopted children, now married.

    CHAPTER ONE

    2 Thessalonians 1:1-12

As we begin, we note that God subsequently sent a second letter to the believers at Thessalonica, doing so through the apostle Paul, which begins as we read at 2 Thessalonians 1:1,2, [1] Paul and Silvanus and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: [2] Grace to you and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. The first thing we need to notice here is that this opening is word for word the same as the opening to God’s first letter to the believers at Thessalonica, with the only additional words being at Thessalonians 1:2, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace and peace - which here refers to the unmerited favor of God to believers from the moment of salvation onward; along with the peace of God, which also comes to every believer from the moment of salvation onward, after one has made peace with God at the moment of salvation - can only come from God The precious Father through His precious Son our Lord Jesus Christ, and which although not mentioned here is always by The precious Holy Spirit.

And again we see that Paul and Silvanus and Timothy are mentioned, with Paul being an apostle, and the one through whom God worked to share the gospel at Thessalonica so as to begin the local church there; who was accompanied by Silvanus, who we have seen was a New Testament prophet, while Timothy was an evangelist, which is how apostles were called after the close of the canon of the New Testament, that is, after all the contents of the New Testament had been given to mankind by God, which had occurred by the end of the first century AD.

We also note again that this is now the second letter that God leads the apostle Paul to write and send to the local church at Thessalonica, here called the church of the Thessalonians, which meant all the believers living in Thessalonica, which we also see were in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, speaking of the fact, as we have seen at 1 Thessalonians 1:1 already, that since there is an indivisible union between The Father and The Son, so that when one comes to know God in a personal relationship in salvation, one is spiritually united to The Son and The Father by The Holy Spirit! And so that is what the word in refers to here, namely the baptism of The Holy Spirit is in view, whereby a person who has come to believe in God, as wholly a work of His grace and power alone, is immersed in the spiritual body of our precious Lord Jesus Christ, where The precious Father ever lives by The precious Holy Spirit. And here we can note what God says to us at 1 Corinthians 1:12,13,27 in regards to what has just been said, [12] For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. [13] For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit… [27] Now you are Christ's body, and individually members of it. This is true for every believer from the moment of salvation onward.

We then note that after giving thanks for the believers at Thessalonica at 2 Thessalonians 1:3,4, the apostle Paul is led of God to disclose to them at 2 Thessalonians 1:5-10 that God's judgment on unbelievers is coming, as a way of encouraging them, as we then see at 2 Thessalonians 1:11,12, to keep on serving God in the midst of their present persecutions and afflictions. And so we continue by noting here what God first tells us at 2 Thessalonians 1:3,4, [3] We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brethren, as is only fitting, because your faith is greatly enlarged, and the love of each one of you toward one another grows ever greater; [4] therefore, we ourselves speak proudly of you among the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure. As the apostle Paul is led of God to say to the believers at Thessalonica here, because your faith is greatly enlarged, and the love of each one of you toward one another grows ever greater, and because of your perseverance and faith in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure, then this not only provides a reason for the apostle Paul to speak proudly of them among the other local churches which he visits, but this also provides a basis for his giving thanks to God for them, when he remembers them in prayer!

And the fact that the faith of the believers at Thessalonica was greatly enlarged, and the love each had for each other grows ever greater, while they continued to persevere and their faith did not falter in the midst of undergoing persecutions and afflictions, which they continued to endure at the hands of the unbelievers at Thessalonica, was all clear evidence that God was still very much at work in their lives individually and as a local body of believers making up the church at Thessalonica! We further note here that the term greatly enlarged is Huperauxano, which means 'to increase beyond measure,' while the term grows... greater is Pleonazo, meaning 'to super abound,' with the
