    PROLOGUE

Bruce lay on the floor covered with his blood. He was still in shock from what he saw. With every bone in his body, he tried to get back up. His body felt like someone dropped weights on him until he gave up and lay down. He spits up blood as he tried to take in as much air as possible.

Felicia walked over and stood at the base of his feet, trying to fix her clothes.

Did you think for one minute I wanted you? It was the money I was after. You’re a no good, sorry excuse for a fucking man. Sean is more of a man than you’ll ever be, and just to think, I married you. What was I thinking? Here you have all this money, and you couldn’t even keep your fucking wife happy. You couldn’t even win a fucking fight; I’m surprised you lasted this long. You deserved every bit of that. And, yes, since your impotent ass couldn’t give me a baby, your best friend did.

Mr. Johnson, what happened next? Dr. Morgan probed.

I don’t know; the next thing I remember, I woke up in the hospital, and the police were standing over me, Bruce replied.

Bruce, I need for you to go home and rest; I’m going to give you a prescription for some Xanax. This will help you sleep and by the end of all of this, we might know what happened. Until then don’t talk to anyone else except your lawyer. Your lawyer and I will keep in contact. Doctor Morgan, why can’t I remember what happened?

Bruce, in many cases, it’s hard for someone to remember when you’ve suffered trauma to your head.

Bruce leaned forward and placed his head in his hands. Tears rushed from his eyes.

Dr. Morgan, do you think I would have killed my wife?

Bruce, don’t worry about that! I don’t believe you did, but right now I need you to get some rest, and I want you to come see me next week. The session might be longer than this one, but I think we might have a breakthrough.

Bruce walked toward the door and suddenly, he heard the gunshots go off as if it was right in the room. The sound caused him to hear bells in his head. He grabbed the doorknob and paused as if he remembered what happened. After a moment, he made his way downstairs and outside the building, where his father waited for him in the car. As he got inside, his father lowered the music. Bruce sat back and closed his eyes.

Dad, do you think I killed her?

No son, that’s not you; I would have.

    Dad, no one deserved that.

Son, let me explain something. Look how you found her and Sean, she damn near took everything you had, and the bitch didn’t stop there; if I were in your shoes, I would have killed that bitch twice!

Dad, I don’t need this right now. Where’s my mother?

She’s away on business; she had a client that got in trouble, and you know how your mother is, she had to help.

Yeah Dad, but what about me?

Son, right now, you have me, and I’m getting all the information; however, I might not take your case.

    What, wait why not?

Bruce, in this situation it’s best to get an outside source to be your lawyer and besides, I’m going to work on your case from behind the scenes. When do you see Doctor Morgan again?

She told me to come back next week.

He played the scene repeatedly in his mind, but he couldn’t remember what happened when they arrived at his parent’s house. Bruce went straight to his old room. He sat on the edge of the bed, and he tried to hold back the tears, but his whole life was over. His company was put on hold and from the looks of it, he couldn’t take it public, so all the money he invested was lost, and his wife was dead. He wondered why that person hadn’t killed him, and every time he thought about it, he felt as if he should know who it was.

    CHAPTER ONE

    THE CHALLENGE

It was Thursday evening; Bruce Johnson sat in a corner booth in the back of his favorite restaurant. He had a meeting with his longtime friend Sean Mitchell. Sean and Bruce attended Georgetown and played on the same football team until Bruce broke his leg. Sean was envious of Bruce, but he never showed it. He felt whatever Bruce had should have been his. As usual, Sean was running late; he was different from Bruce. Bruce grew up with both parents being lawyers; Sean was lucky he even had one. Bruce’s parents raised him to carry himself a certain way and along with Bruce’s personality. He had his father’s good looks, which made any woman do a double take. Bruce looked at his watch and after a minute or so, Sean walked up to the table.

Bruce, before you say anything; I was taking care of some business.

    Okay Sean, who was she?

Funny, nah the girl from payroll, but on the real; what’s up with this meeting, Bruce?

I’m thinking about taking my company public.

Do you think it’s the best time to do it now?

It’s the best time, and if I do it now, it’s going to take me to a whole new level.

So, hold on what about me?

What about you bro, as long as I have this company; you will always have a job!

While they were speaking, a female waitress approached the table.

Good evening gentlemen; my name is Felicia, and I will be your server, how may I help you tonight?

My name is Bruce, and this is my boy, Sean. I never saw you in here before, Felicia, are you new?

Yes, I am and nice to meet you, Bruce and Sean. This is my second day here.

How do you like it so far?

What can I say; it’s a job, now let me take your orders before they think I’m flirting with you. Or they might think I’m flirting with you, but I’ll have a Vodka and cranberry and give him a rum and Coke.

Okay gentlemen, I’ll be right back with your orders. Bruce watched as she walked away, he made it seem like she was a tall glass of water, and he wanted a drink. Felicia was attractive; she stood about five foot nine, with long legs to match, dark hair, and thick in every way imaginable.

    Wow Bruce, look at you.

    What are you talking about?

Since when do you pick up chicks, that’s my job and how do you know I didn’t want her?

Sean, you saw how good she looked, if you wanted her, you would have made a move.

Maybe you’re right; so when is this company going public?

Hopefully we will in the next couple of months.

Here you go gentlemen. She was careful to place each drink down on the table gently.

Thank you and what did you say your name was again?

    Felicia.

Sean stared at her the whole time they were talking. He looked at her as if he saw her some place before. As she was walking off, Sean said to Bruce, I wouldn’t waste my time with her.

Sean, you forget I know you, and you would have wasted every minute of your time if you had the chance to talk to her. Now I need for you to get those reports ready for me by Monday. Next month, I need you to go down to Wall Street with me, so we can set up an account so we can take this company public.

No problem boss, I have to go and meet up with my girl so call me if you need anything.

Bruce sat there finishing his drink. Felicia walked over and placed another drink on the table right beside the one he had. When he looked up, their eyes courted for a moment.

    I didn’t order that.

I know, but you just looked like you needed another and since I’m getting off in forty minutes, I thought you might want to wait until I get off.

Okay, I’ll meet you outside. My car is parked right around the back.

He impatiently waited for her arrival. As she walked out of the restaurant, he was taken aback; she was dressed sexier than any other female he’d ever met. He got out of the car, escorted her to the passenger side, and opened the door. While she was entering the car, Bruce placed his hand gently on her waist; slowly, he slid his hand down, touching her butt. He closed the door and entered on the other side. Bruce drove a BMW 750i double black. The interior of the car complemented the complexion of her skin.

So this is what you driving?

    Yeah, it’s a little something.

So Bruce, where are we going?

I have a place in mind I think you might like. She found herself getting comfortable.

So tell me, Felicia, where are you from?

I’m originally from South Beach, Florida, born and raised until I ended up here.

So do you have any kids or family?

Look at you Mr. Questions, no I don’t have any kids and what family I have left, is still there.

Ben had just walked in the room and was trying to wake Bruce up; it seemed he was in a deep sleep.

Son, wake up; you have two detectives here to see you.

Bruce laid there and looked around, he didn’t recognize where he was; after a moment, it came to him that
