About this series

Years after the Pandora pandemic decimated the world's population, successful civilizations are truly starting to come together. Led by Mother, Newton stands as an example to the people, a model for how their lives can get back to normal.

But not everyone lives in Newton, and not everyone misses the life of old. Children raised in the time after the pandemic have no memories of shopping malls, have no idea why make-up was so popular, and don't have a clue what it was like to call a restaurant and order take out. While Mother and the other leaders like her struggled so hard to get back all they lost, they were too busy to notice that their children didn't even want that kind of life.

After Pandora, a young girl was saved from life on an army base and raised in a tenty, living a life as far from the Newton ideal as anyone could. Under the guidance of strong people, she beat the odds and made it through childhood. And just as she begins to blossom, to start questioning life and the world around her, she's left all alone.

As the loneliness clears, she begins to take stock of her life and the world in general. She doesn't know her real name or where she came from. She has only a best guess at her age. She has never interacted with people on her own, and hasn't got a clue why her guardians were hell bent on keeping her from the army. The only food she has is whatever she can find for herself, and all of her supplies must be scrounged.

However, she's not completely alone. She has her beloved Book, the diary she began as a girl. What started as an educational exercise she loathed became her outlet, her sounding board, her friend. Armed with Book, her backpack, and her grit, she sets out on a journey to discover not only the world, but herself.

A silent killer stole everyone she knew and loved. Where there were once people, she only saw ghosts. Where cars used to travel, only leaves moved across the barren roads. There were no planes overhead, no messages to hear on her voice mail, no signs of life anywhere. She wandered in a numb haze through the terrifyingly still world, until suddenly there was a sound. A call. One voice that woke her up and made her realize that she wasn't alone. And in that moment, she decided to live. This is a story of loss and pain, of struggle and triumph. This is a story about picking up the pieces when everything falls apart, and finding unlikely heroes in the darkest hour. It is a story of the thrill of success after shattering defeat. It is a story of love, of anger, of laughter and tears. It is a story of life. And all life begins with a mother.

In the wake of the Pandora pandemic, Newton began. With Mother at the helm, it grew and blossomed. Her policy of open doors and shared information benefited not only those in town, but people across the continent. As her fame grew, she attracted the attention of what remained of the US army. They moved in next door, built a base, and for years, seemed content to simply watch her. However, Mother would not follow the army's "supply and comply" policy. They were soldiers trying to give her orders, not government officials, and the more the soldiers pressed their case, the more firm Mother's resolve became. She did not vote them into office, she did not elect any of them to be her leader. The people she voted for were dead and buried, and until she cast a vote for someone new, there was no government. She refused to cede Newton to their control, and encouraged other towns and settlements across the former nation to do the same. To the army, Mother is a traitor. The time has come that her people feared. With one defiant act, Mother tips the scale too far and the world at large knows things are coming to a head. The army is no longer content to wait and watch. And as she prepares her citizens for battle, Mother knows that far more than just one town is on the line.

I love to try new ways to create things. However, writing is the only thing I always come back to. Life interrupted my path several times, until finally my family said to bite the bullet and give this scary "putting myself out there" thing a try.
