About this ebook
When Seb’s golden retreiver Honey runs off along the cliff during his early morning walk, the last thing he expects to find is Phillip, standing there at the edge, the sea pounding the rocks beneath him. So Seb isn’t really surprised to hear the voice of his dead partner in his head...
Do something, love...
When Honey won’t leave Phillip’s side, Seb does the only thing he can think of – invites Phillip to come home with him for breakfast. Something in the quiet man touches him, and he wants to know more.
And leaving Phillip standing on that cliff is not an option.

~ 1 ~
All it takes is one step. Just close your eyes and step out over the edge. It’ll all be over before you know it.
Philip shuddered as the brisk morning wind whipped around him. It had seemed so much easier when he’d thought it all through in the safety and comfort of his living room. Standing here at the cliff edge, Whale Chine beach below him, the waves crashing onto the pebbles… Now it was all too real.
You’ve gone through all this. You know it’s the only way.
Yeah, he knew. The prospect of life continuing in the same vein as the last few months was too depressing a thought to even contemplate. Besides, who’d miss him? Not his neighbours, who barely exchanged a few mumbled sentences when they saw him. No relatives to speak of—none that mattered, anyway. No, this was the best way. Now, if he could only just bring himself to take that first step….Philip closed his eyes, took a deep breath and held his foot out over the cliff edge, letting it hover there, unable to force himself to take that final step.
"Honey! Get back here now!"
The peace of the morning was shattered by a man’s voice. Philip opened his eyes and stepped back, his feet almost slipping in the dew-damp grass of the coastal path. He glanced around, searching for the speaker. His heart hammered. It wasn’t much past dawn—there shouldn’t have been anyone around at that hour. That was the whole point of his plan. By the time people would start to use the coastal path, it would have been over. He’d be lying down there on the rocks, and his nightmare would be over.
A golden retriever, its coat long and silky, dashed toward him, its tongue hanging out. To Philip’s surprise, the dog came to a stop beside him and nuzzled his hand which hung limply by his side. Philip looked down at the dog. Honey had a sweet face with those big brown, soulful eyes that Philip could never resist in the adverts for the Dog Rescue centre. He couldn’t help his reaction. He reached out and stroked the dog’s head, scootching her behind the ears. Honey was definitely a sweetie.
Oh, I’m so sorry. She doesn’t usually run up to perfect strangers. Honey, leave the man alone.
Honey’s owner strode purposefully across the grass to where Philip and Honey stood. He was slightly out of breath, so Philip guessed Honey had run off at some speed. In his hand he held a red leash with its plastic handle. He gazed apologetically at Philip. I’m really sorry.
Philip gave a half-hearted smile. No harm done. She just wanted to say hello, didn’t you, girl?
He glanced down at the dog
