VIPER 6 - ULTIMATE SACRIFICE

The Viper Squad has just thwarted a terrorist attack on an American-backed theme park to be opening on 4th July in Nottingham, England.

But the components from the manufactured explosives seized have allegedly come from North Korea.

A carefully planned and orchestrated clandestine shipment from North Korea is arriving in the Port of Mukalla in the Yemen in five days’ time. The Vipers have to get on board this ship to see what this hidden shipment is.

Can they do it in time before it docks in Mukalla?

But even more surprisingly is one of Vipers main targets, Raza Waheed Gadhi, the kingpin of all IS/ISIS operations in the UK, has been ordered to go to Southern Yemen. He is to meet this ship, to take delivery and liaise with their alleged arch-rival, a local Al-Qaeda commander       Aban al Safar. Why?

The plot thickens; this mysterious shipment from Korea should have all the answers, or will it?

The Yemen is rapidly becoming a hot zone, for terrorists groups and factions. Now the Arab coalition forces are starting to carry out bombing missions against strategic targets.

Is the Viper Squad going to be right in the middle of this?

What is going to be the Ultimate Sacrifice?

    Authors Note

Viper 6 is the sixth book in the series of Viper. All David Baker’s novels are written as standalone books but are equally written to be a continuation of the previous books.

VIPER, a secret Elite ‘Black’ Operations Squad was formed in Margaret Thatcher’s era following the Iranian Siege in London and still continues to this day.

A closely guarded British Secret handed down from one Prime Minister to the next. Operations are sanctioned only by the current serving British PM, through Charles Baker the brain-child and commander of Viper.

This brief synopsis I hope will help you the reader to familiarise yourself again with books 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 or just skip it!

Equally for the readers who have not read them. To gain an insight of Viper and their operations which have led to this current book, ULTIMATE SACRIFICE’

    ********

VIPER - A secret Elite ‘Black’ Operations squad.

The Vipers are in Cyprus having hunted down their latest prey. Two Bosnian Muslim brothers who are prolific arms dealers. They have been negotiating the purchase of a radioisotope thermoelectric generator (RTG) unit; which is complete with a radioactive reactor. This can be removed and ground to a dust to make ‘Dirty Bombs’.

The buyer, Abu Karim, is the leader of a new Islamic terrorist extremist party ‘Sayed-al-Ghad.’ His plan is to carry out worldwide attacks on the 10th September using the radioactive waste, in body-worn human bombs. The main purpose is to upstage Al-Qaeda from whom this new group’s leader was once attached. With the demise of Osama bin Laden, time is of the essence for Abu Karim and now Viper.

This Elite Squad starts striking at its prey, following the sickening and ruthless kidnapping of a fifteen year old girl. Ultimately following the dealers to Georgia where the RTG is stored, Viper must prevent the RTG falling into the hands of Evil – At any cost!

‘Viper 2 - The Master of Tomorrows Spawn’.

With the recent capture by Viper of Abu Karim, the leader of a new Islamic terrorist extremist party ‘Sayed-al-Ghad.’

Viper Squad step back into the shadows; allowing the British Intelligence services to start the operation mop up and subsequent arrests of the other members of this terrorist party.

A rogue senior MI5 officer tips off a personal protection police officer, attached to the British Prime Minister about his imminent arrest.

Saif Mirak is one of the terrorist parties ‘Sleepers’; his mission is to eliminate the PM and he is now on the run.

This new terrorist party has penetrated the heart and soul of the British Police Service and the MI5 Intelligence Agency.

The head of MI5 turns to his old friend Charles Baker the commander of Viper, to help him find this MI5 traitor and the PM’s personal protection Police officer.

Viper goes deep undercover; the ramifications of what they find out about this new terrorist party’s plans are far from over. The news not only shocks the British but the Worldwide Security agencies.

    ‘Viper 3- ‘Bad Russian Blood’

A highly trained Russian operative, code named ‘The Phantom’ arrives on British soil in the early hours of 17th December.

His route on board an old fishing trawler across the North Sea direct from Holland; Landing him at Britain’s easterly coast harbour of Lowestoft.

His believed mission; to protect the Russian Minister of Internal Affairs Corruption and Vice who is attending a seminar in London, on the 21st December.

His clandestine landing coincides with the recent arrival in Britain, of three Chechen freedom fighters. These men have been on a murdering spree, committing grisly revenge attacks on the Russian Mafia.

So, why their sudden arrival in Britain?

For the first time since Vipers creation after they go on the hunt; rapid moving events unfold and they quickly believe they are now the hunted.

    ‘Viper 4- ‘Fog of Death’

Amy Ainsworth is a young British girl, born and bred in Gloucester. She has never had a good relationship with her mother due to her parent’s very strict Catholic upbringing and views.

She left the family home eleven years ago in search of a new life in the Philippines. After securing a job, she was struggling in her personal life and had turned to Islam for help and guidance.

Her studies of Islam became her life; her commitment to Islam and in particular her British nationality had not gone unnoticed. Over time she was introduced to a ruthless Nigerian cleric.

Amy was doctored into this cleric’s ideological and violent beliefs of the Koran and his perception of the true interpretations of it. Thus her radicalization had begun.

She has now met her counterpart; he is the first radicalized protégée of the ruthless Nigerian cleric. Together they will take the fight to the non-believers head on.

Viper Squad is now on the hunt for her. She has a ruthless and bloodthirsty following and is plotting an attack on the non-believers, but where?

Is she connected to the infamous White Widow Samantha Lewthwaite?

What Viper find out and the subsequent operation will shock the British military, the British Government and the MOD to the core.

Viper hit the ground running as events unfold quickly and violently.

    Viper 5 – ‘Vengeance’.

Having returned from operation ‘Fog of Death’ in Cyprus, six of the Viper Squad were immediately sent to the Syrian border with Turkey.

Their role, to find tunnels the European Jihadists are using to cross the border and to identify them by means of fitting covert cameras on the Syrian side.

Against their wishes, Viper’s 5 and 6, Constance and Phil, are ordered to take some long overdue leave.

Viper 5 settles down for her week’s holiday aboard her long boat moored in a small marina, in East Yorkshire.

She is disturbed in the early hours of the morning, by persons breaking into a nearby warehouse.

What she discovers and the subsequent rapidly unfolding events, means she needs help and fast!

Viper 6’s leave is cancelled and he is flown up to assist her.

With the rest of the Squad in Syria, they have no choice, but to go it alone.

Constance and Phil go against protocol; their devious and irresponsible plans are kept secret from the commander of Viper.

What they unearth is the biggest ever plot to disable Britain’s infrastructure. The ignition in this cycle of events will totally decimate towns and villages in East Yorkshire.

Weapons of mass destruction are defined as; Weapons that are capable of a high order of destruction and being used in such a manner as to destroy large numbers of people.

Yorkshire has four of these weapons hidden somewhere. Are they static or mobile?

Where, when and how will they be detonated and who is really behind it?

The Viper Squad when formed twenty nine years ago, had come from all walks of life.

Book 1 also dealt with the formation of the squad between 1980 and 1984. Bearing in mind this book has the descriptions below of the squad when they were seconded; it is now 29 years on, they are older, wiser and well-seasoned.

Charles Baker, aged 40 years old, the commander of Viper. He was seconded into the British Secret Service at the age of 20 whilst studying at Cambridge University. After graduating he went straight into training. During his very extensive career in the service he worked for MI5 and MI6.

In 1980 he was ordered by Margaret Thatcher to form the squad following the Iranian Siege in London. It was completed over a two year period in total secrecy, together with the help of his loyal two godfathers.

It is still a closely guarded British Secret.

    The Godfathers,

Andy, nickname ‘Biffo’, aged 38 years old, long curly blonde shoulder length hair pulled back into a ponytail. Dark menacing eyes like a hawk, and heavily set. He had worked with Charles Baker on and off for the last twelve years and was formerly a staff sergeant in the S.A.S for ten of these.

James nickname ‘Rhino’ aged 36 years, short-cropped dark brown hair. A rounded face that bore many lines, he was short and stocky with tree trunk forearms and hands the size of shovels. He spoke with an East-end accent and was not to be messed with. He also worked with Charles Baker on and off for the last twelve years and was formerly a staff sergeant in the S.B.S for ten of these.

    The Vipers

Peter Webb, Viper 1, aged 21 years, 5’ 10" tall with crew cut light brown hair, broad shoulders, and muscular rugby player’s legs and piercing slate blue eyes. He was a workaholic who had joined the Greater Manchester police in 1982. Within three years he had been fast tracked onto many courses and had been head hunted, as were the rest of the squad by Charles Baker. Over the years Peter had become the natural leader of the squad with everyone’s blessing.

Helen McVane, Viper 2, aged 22 years, 5’ 10" tall, a slender figure, with long legs and broad swimmers shoulders. Her golden blonde hair was cut into a bob; striking facial features, high cheekbones, dark brown eyes almost black, and a slightly hooked nose. Her skin was the Mediterranean olive colour that glowed. She had a passion for fitness and a love of art. She was flamboyant, oozed self-confidence and had a natural flirtatious nature.

She had worked in Customs and Excise and had done so for 3 years.

Robert Hughes, Viper 3, aged 28 years, 5’ 8" tall, he was slim in stature with curly red hair and an abundance of freckles on his face. Educated at Eton he spoke ‘ever so far back.’ He had a natural talent for languages and problem solving. He would spend hours reading wiring manuals and technical specifications and could quote them verbatim. He had the driest sense of humour and it was impossible to work out whether he was joking or not.

He had worked for MI6 and had done so for the past 8 years as a strategic and coordinator analyst.

John Jackson, Viper 4, aged 26 years 5’ 6" a broad Glaswegian, stocky build with collar length dark brown, thick hair. He was receding on both sides of his temple and was very self-conscious of it. When he smiled, he had the best set of pearly white teeth, with not a space between them. Stating he had inherited them from ‘The Scottish Warriors.’ He would storm around swearing and turning the air blue, in a language that you would have thought was Swahili. He had the funniest sense of humour that was possible and saw the funny side to everything. He had a passion for History, world news, facts and rugby.

He had worked for the British High Commission for 5 years.

Constance Alexandrou, Viper 5, aged 20 years, 6ft, a tall and elegant lady.  She had long jet black hair with a shine that any shampoo advertiser would die for. With a petite size six waist, a pale complexion and long thin slender hands. The squad had nicknamed her Morticia from the Adams family. She was the best martial arts person any of the squad had ever seen.

Constance had studied all martial arts from the age of five and had trained all over the world, spending six months honing her skills in Tibet. Her passion and pastime was collecting martial art weapons. Her favourite being the uniquely designed, deadly razor sharp, pointed stars.

She had worked for the Bank of England Audits department for 2 years.

Philip Jones, Viper 6, aged 22 years, 6’ 2" built like a brick ‘out-house’.  With the build of a prop forward in rugby and was as strong as an ox. Complete with the mandatory flattened nose, bulging eyebrows, as if he had done ten rounds in a boxing ring. To look at him you would say he was in his mid-thirties with greying black hair and crow’s feet at the corner of his eyes.  He spoke with a Cornish accent and his character was like a gentle giant. He had the patience of a saint but if you pushed the right buttons, then look out.

He had a Master’s degree in Maths, Physics and Chemistry having passed the Maths examination at the age of 17. He had worked for the Inland Revenue as a Fraud Investigator and had done so for 2 years.

It involves a significant degree of deception, to conceal who is behind it or to make it appear that some other entity is entirely responsible.

    ‘ULTIMATE SACRIFICE’

    David Baker

    Chapter 1

Helen lay on her front, her left eye pushed into the rubber scope, as her rifle mirrored her target’s movements at the lock-up garage. She was positioned on the flat roof of the garage opposite, which had a raised roof capping, so she was totally hidden from view from ground level.

Sitting beside her was the remote infra-red floodlight, illuminating the dark area for her and Viper 5 (Constance) and Viper 4 (John) using their night-sights as they waited in the dark, cold, wet miserable night.

Three minutes earlier, a small red Fiat Fiorino panel van had driven up the overgrown lane and pulled into the block of thirty rented garages. The garages were set out in a U shape and had graffiti daubed over the walls and doors. The token rotting mattresses, old washing machines and piles of fly tippers’ rubbish lent themselves to the unkempt surroundings. This was the norm for this area of Reading, and although all the garages were in use and all padlocked to the hilts, the Vipers only had to disable one camera in the block.

Both Helen and John on observing the van turning up the lane had lowered their heads to retain their night vision as Constance kept eyeball advising them over the comms.

It was 12.15 a.m. 20th June, and it was cold, but the rain had just stopped and the driver was late. He had quickly reversed the van up to the metal door of garage 10 and instantly turned the lights off. The driver’s door opened and Target 1 peeled himself out of the van. Kafeel Salib aged 28, 16 stone, and wearing his trademark multicoloured knitted Rasta-cap. He sauntered over to the garage door, bending down with his keys. Helen zoomed in her sights, focussing on the pistol tucked in his waistband at his back.
