About this ebook

Vajrayogini and other Sacred Power Places in Nepal was inspired by      H. E. Tsem Rinpoche when he took 61 people on a whirlwind pilgrimage to Nepal. This book is an account of the amazing spiritual journey with each temple and holy site beautifully captured on camera along with Tsem Rinpoche's powerful explanations and stories. The principle pilgrimage sites which the pilgrims were privileged to visit consisted of ancient caves and temples related to the Tantric deity called Vajrayogini, the Mahasiddha Naropa and his Guru, Tilopa. There are many photographs particularly of the ancient and sacred Vajrayogini statues that have never been seen in print - in fact, most of these sites are not even mentioned in the usual guidebooks. It is hoped that this book will serve to inspire intrepid spiritual seekers who wish to make their own spiritual journey to discover the ancient world of Vajrayogini.

    H.E. TSEM RINPOCHE

who has given us so much inspiration, guidance and innumerable blessings to transform our lives.

Vajrayogini’s lineage has a special connection to Nepal, where her practice was very established and wide-spread in the past. As an indication of the prevalence of her practice, we now have four very special and rare Vajrayogini holy places in the Kathmandu Valley – Sangkhu, Patan, Vijashwari and Pharping. They are the four main places where Vajrayogini holy temples have existed for many years. Although these temples were built and maintained in a traditional Nepalese style, what is so beautiful about them is that pilgrims can still see that the sacred images held within are clearly that of Vajrayogini.

For the last 20 years, I have been taking my students there to make offerings and aspirational prayers, and to sometimes pass oral transmissions in her holy presence. This book is the culmination and result of our latest pilgrimage.

After we finished our pilgrimage, I decided to remain in Kathmandu a while longer and requested Kechara Discovery’s Head Liaison, Paul Yap, to take beautiful pictures of the various Vajrayoginis. Thus, it is through Paul’s efforts that we were
