Introduction to Social Media
So, you have decided to enter the vast world of social media. This might be the first time that you have even contemplated such a thing, or maybe you have already started to use social networks a little bit. Even if you have no idea how to get started, this book will tell you everything that you need to know, with step-by-step instructions that are easy to understand. Of course, this book assumes that you have a computer, or an appropriate computing device (like a tablet or smartphone). It will also assume that you have at least a basic understanding of how to use your device, and how to go about using the Internet. Don’t worry, you don’t need much knowledge, because everything else will be carefully explained.
What Exactly Is Social Media?
You might be tired of hearing about it, especially if you are not sure exactly what social media is. That might be why you have decided to find out what all the fuss is about. Social media is basically a bunch of websites and online tools, that are used for interacting with others. Whether it is used to stay in touch with family overseas, or by businesses who want to reach out to their customers — social media is primarily about people communicating with other people.
Unlike more traditional forms of media, social media is all about two-way communication. Things like television, radio, and newspapers involve a one-way stream of information, generally from the creators, to the public. There are many different forms of social media, and they go beyond the more widely known types, like Facebook. These days, blogs and websites usually have areas for users to leave their own comments. Here, they can join in discussions together, and interact with the creators of the content.
