    Value Part 1

    Luke 12:7 (NIV)

Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Q: How much is a penny worth?

Q: In today’s society what can it buy?

Q: 50+ years ago what could it buy?

The value of the penny had a whole different meaning way back then. In a child’s eyes 50 years ago, a penny was a treasure.

    John 3:16

For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

Picture this: You are turning 5-years-old today, and you are extremely excited! Your best friend gives you your gift. You open it up, and it’s your best friend’s absolute favorite toy. It’s kind of old and loved—but because you know that this gift cost your best friend so much, you feel completely loved. Suddenly, it’s not about how much money was spent, but who gave it to you, and what that gift meant to them.

    Ephesians 2:4-5

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

What we deem valuable, and what others deem valuable, can be two totally different things in life.

We are to value what God values, to treat valuable what He treats valuable. The most valuable thing to God is people. He loved the world and valued the world so much that John 3:16 happened. He gave.

Q: When we see something as valuable what do we do?

    We invest time.

    We invest money.

    We invest energy.

Sometimes our view of value can get off. We can get overly obsessed with something and neglect what God sees as valuable.

    Romans 8:32

He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things.

Until we know how much we are valued, we’ll never fully appreciate the value of what Jesus did for us. If you’ve ever felt like you are unvaluable to God—think about this scripture. He who did not spare His own son.

I want you close their eyes.
