About this ebook

In this book, you will find hope, by walking in the sandals of Simon Peter and ‘experiencing’ what he experienced.

Jesus shows us God the Father, but who do the disciples of Jesus show us? Many say, “They show us Jesus!” This has been a critical mistake and made a big difference in the way we look at everyday Christianity. The fact is that Jesus shows us the Father, and the disciples of Jesus, show us “US!”

How Jesus called, taught, corrected, rebuked and prayed for, and restored the disciples, and even Simon Peter, stands out as a bright light of hope in our discouraging world. Often we see our failures as un-get-over-able, unforgivable, and in no way can we be accepted much less forgiven. NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH!

As you read this hope-filled book, taken straight from the scriptures, (with a little imagination added by the author), you will find yourself hard pressed to lay it aside until you have finished. This is because of the hunger that all seek just to be “accepted.” The little children’s song we all learned growing up, “Jesus Loves Me,” is more than a song, it is absolutely true! The fact that there is not one sin that cannot be forgiven is equally true. The hope for Peter is the hope offered to you in Jesus...and it is the same for everyone.

In this book, you will find one man’s confrontation with Jesus Christ, and through his eyes, and feelings, victories and failures, see yourself in many ways, but never will you see yourself as beyond the reach of this loving Savior. “The past is the past,” and in Jesus forgiveness is not only found, it is assured, and with it, the realization that you are accepted, and can grow in His marvelous grace with the encouragement to “Go on, Go on, Go on.”

“How can I know I am accepted... when I fail and don’t do good?” Read on and see!

Redeemed and added to the body of Christ, May 31, 1959 at Southside Church of Christ, Beaumont, Texas. Graduated from Preston Road School of Preaching, Dallas, Texas, 1971. I ministered to congregations in Georgia, Saskatchewan, Canada, Indiana, Ukraine, and Florida. After the passing of my brother Robert Exum January 25,2016, my wife and I moved to begin work with the West Keene Church of CHrist in Keene, New Hampshire. I am a committed Christian, happily married to my wife Lauw Liang (Wiwik), from Indonesia. Together, we seek only to grow, and serve together in His grace, so freely given in Jesus. (Mailing address: 69 Blossom Street, Keene, NH., 03431.) Purpose and Philosophy statements: * To reach out to and encourage the body of Christ. Not only by publishing books by dad (Jack Exum), and eventually my own, but also dad's and my own studies on www.jackexum.com. I strive for BALANCE, avoiding EXTREMES, LEGALISM and LABELS which have contributed to division and sectarianism in the church. Growing in faith, hope, and love, unity of the Spirit in the bonds of peace, and being true to the Gospel of Christ, is 'where we stand.' My prayer is that we grow in grace, and learn to accept each other, being patient with those who question, or differ, while being 'Heaven bound' together. * To reach the lost. This is the mission of Jesus. Everyone deserves the privilege to hear about Jesus at least once. There is ONE God, and he loves you INCREDIBLY, There is ONE Savior, who gave His all that we might belong to Him forever, and ONE faith given to be shared in the power of His Spirit. There is ONE body to which all believers are added (Acts 2:38-47). That body has no official name in the New Testament but has several designations which describe relationship, with God, Christ, and each other. * To hold to restoration principles: 1. “No Creed but Christ.” (Written creeds, and traditions are not authoritative). 2. “Where the Scriptures speak, we speak; where the Scriptures are silent, we are silent.” 3. “In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, love.” 4. “We are not the only Christians, but we are Christians only.” Allow the Lord to deal with the 'weeds.' * We understand what the Bible teaches about being saved. One "must be born of water and the Spirit" (John 3:3-5). For more on this read Acts 2. However, now everyone who obeys the gospel of grace will be found in a congregation with the 'acceptable name.' God knows all that are His. Whoever does what early Christians did to be saved, is my brother and sister in Christ. I let God do the judging, I have 'my plate full,' working on my own sinfulness, and growing in grace, while encouraging others to do the same. Grow in grace! Heaven bound!

Description: Acceptance is something everyone struggles with and for. When it comes to ‘failure,’ everyone admits to having ‘been there and done that.’ We get up, dust ourselves off, and move on… unusually. However, when it comes to moral and relational failures, our past teaching comes into play, and forgiveness and acceptance in God’s eyes, is replaced with fear and guilt. Acceptance seems impossible. In this book, you will find hope, by walking in the sandals of Simon Peter and ‘experiencing’ what he experienced.

    Author’s Note

    Explanation

Why the name? Why the book? Why the effort?

Three good questions, and perhaps many a book would have gone unwritten if the author had paused long enough to ask them. If what we write, has already been written, then why write it? If we are but to research a number of other books and repeat what has been said just in a different way, why do it? While nothing is new under the sun, surely one must have some deep personal motivation in writing, especially that which is intended to be read by the general public.

    WHY THE NAME?

Well, what do you do with yourself when you fail? What assurance could one have when he doesn’t do well? As a believer in Jesus as Christ and Lord, how do we stand in His presence when we fail in our own life? Are you the kind of husband or wife that a true Christian should be? Would you ‘parent’ your children differently, if you had a second chance? What about those ‘secret thoughts,’ that, ‘run astray?’ What about the outward glances that initiate lust? How do you mange yourself when envy fills the heart or bitterness ‘bubbles over?’ What do you do with yourself, when you just don’t do ‘well?’ How do you smile at others or shake hands with all the brethren, when you know in your heart, that you have really faltered and failed? What kind of ‘games’ are you willing to play, to cover such behavior and failures? Jesus was perfect in every way – we are imperfect in most every way. Does grace cover everything, or just SOME THINGS? What part of your failures does the grace of God cover? How do you, as a Christian, ‘get up,’ when you ‘fall down,’ when you fail miserably in life?

I think the name of the book is ‘kinda dumb,’
