I have been writing since I began publishing a family newspaper in the third grade. I live in central Texas, where I work as a legal assistant and part-time dance teacher. When the boys were young, I wrote several non-fiction articles, a couple of which were published in periodicals---many of which were not. A few years later when an idea came to me for a story for my favorite television series, I tried my hand at script-writing. Although I never could get the studio to look at my tv scripts, I eventually had an idea for a screenplay and ran with it. A kind and nurturing literary agent took me under his wing, gave me encouragement, and peddled my screenplays around Hollywood. Though I didn't sell anything at the time, I have continued to write, and the stories from my screenplays are the foundation for three of my novels. The characters in my books have lived with me for so long that they seem very real to me and their stories make my heart smile---I hope they will yours, too.I love to hear from my readers! A note from the author:
For the last 17 years I’ve been teaching dance classes for a wonderful studio in central Texas. When I choreograph a dance for the annual recital, it is important to me that the dance tell a story. Even if that story is not spelled out to the audience, I believe it is extremely important for my dancers to know two things about their ballet: Who am I? and Why am I here?
I developed this novella from the back story we created for our ballet performed to Johann Strauss, Jr.’s Vienna Bonbons. I hope you enjoy it!

Vienna Bonbons
1866
The bell tinkled at the door of the shop.
Josef had just slid a tray of truffles into the counter behind the glass when he heard Gretchen ask, Come for some sweets today, ladies?
The youth didn’t bother to look up. He had recently graduated to apprentice and assumed he no longer needed to concern himself with the menial task of waiting on customers. He’d already spent two years at that lowly position before Herr Vogel finally moved him into the kitchen. Gretchen would take care of the guests of Les Bonbons.
Yes, please.
A musical voice echoed across the room.
The Fräulein needs a birthday present for her mother.
A second, matter-of-fact voice said.
Let me help you with your coats,
Gretchen replied.
With his attention still on the display, Josef next heard the clicking of dainty heels on the polished floor and the first voice, the musical one—now hovering over him—asked, What are they all?
Josef grumbled and rose to his full height to observe Gretchen, holding onto the Fräulein’s coat and trying to pull it down her arm. The young woman’s torso had rotated toward the shop assistant, revealing a head of chestnut curls that transformed into enchanting wisps of baby hair at the nape of her neck.
When she turned to face him, Josef’s heart stopped. She was captivating … bewitching … delectable. An angel …
What are they all?
she said again, surveying the wealth of confections that Josef had carefully displayed in the case.
Well, Miss, over here we have fudge, almond bark, and the Conchitas. Cordials here. On that side the creams and chocolate drops, oh, and the truffles, of course. Chocolate strawberries, mint sticks …
The Fräulein’s companion had crossed the room and now peered over her shoulder scrutinizing the contents of the case.
I was looking for bonbons.
There was a hint of glitter in her hazel eyes that sparkled like amber. Bonbons?
Don’t you have bonbons? The name of the shop …
