    Chapter One

Sitting on the couch taking in the Christmas tree and decorations lining the fireplace mantel is weird. Everything about this Christmas is so strange. I still can’t get used to the idea that this house is mine.

Well, ours. I guess I need to start including Travis in on things. But that was still odd. Travis and I bought it three months ago. I should really be used to the idea of us living together by now, but it’s hard. Maybe it doesn’t help that we’ve been travelling for nine out of the twelve weeks we’ve lived here. And though now we share a hotel room, it’s still different from living together.

I think the issue is that Travis and I had lived alone for so long. After we moved out of our parent’s houses, we had moved into apartments. Alone. So for nine years we’ve lived alone. Well, as alone as you can when you travel half the year. When you move in with someone after doing your own thing for that long, things get tense. Like when Travis insists on putting the toothpaste in the drawer, while I insist it stays next to the sink. I mean seriously, you use it at least twice a day, why can’t it stay out?

Don’t get me wrong, I love that man. I love waking up to him every morning. Enjoying dinners with him at night. Cuddling on the couch is maybe my favorite thing in the world.

Well, okay, sex is probably my favorite thing, but you don’t want to listen to me talk about sex with Travis.

It really is just the little things that we are working through. Hopefully soon I’ll get used to the idea of living with him. I mean, I probably should get used to the idea, since after this weekend I’ll be his wife.

    Yeah. Wife.

Just when I was getting used to him introducing me as his fiancée, we’re now transitioning into the next phase. Which again, shouldn’t be weird, since we have been engaged for over a year now.

I’m just strange. The whole dating your best friend thing is taking me way too long to get over. Maybe it’s the way we started this relationship? On that stupid show. If we had a normal beginning I’d probably be a lot more at ease with things right now.

    Probably not, but that’s
