About this ebook
The Chain is a group of like-minded warriors who strive to unite the varied races and cultures of the world. Heroic Chain Links work as moderators and peacekeepers. Evil ones wish to unite the world under their own rule.
They wear chain mail and use various chain weapons, such as flails. They share a psychic bond that let them fight as one. They can lend their strength to an ally, and sense if another Link is in danger from a world away.
While many character classes work better complementing other classes in a party, The Chain is unique in that he gets more powerful when there are more of his kind nearby.
This Prestige Class presents you with everything you need to introduce this character into your d20, D&D, or similar RPG. You also get a sample character, 3 new items that complement this character, and 5 story starters to introduce The Chain to your campaign.
Approximately 2,000 words, plus free bonus material, which is about 10,000 words more.

THE CHAIN
Chain mail and chain weapons are the symbol of this group of like-minded individuals who value teamwork and unity. Chain heroes unite warring tribes, act as moderators between sides, and are generally peacekeepers of the land. They seek to purge racism, slavery, poverty, and other evils born of inequality. They are not necessarily religious since Links, as members are called, only need to share a common philosophy. Therefore, there could be many Links of many different faiths working together.
There is also a dark side to The Chain. A warlord uniting all people of all races beneath his iron heel is an example of an evil link in The Chain. An army of soldiers who function as a single unit, dominating other lands. A xenophobic church that whips up its followers against them.
Despite the fact that this Prestige Class is not grounded in religion, it shares many attributes with certain faiths. Therefore, clerics and paladins make notable Chain Links. Fighters, Monks and Bards working for a cause greater than themselves also join The Chain. High level Sorcerers find that the added combat bonuses make this Prestige Class worthwhile, and enjoy the added protection from a powerful group, but don't usually have the inclination to join.
There are multiple Chains throughout the world. They are independent of each other. A member is called a Link. Links in a Chain regard each other as family. A Link won't necessarily have any connection to a Link outside her own Chain.
Hit Die: d10
Requirements
To qualify to become a Chain Link, a character must fulfill all of the following criteria.
Alignment: Lawful
Base Attack Bonus: +5
Special: Simple Weapon Proficiency, Training
A Link undergoes lengthy training, at the very least several months, with a group of people who will be part of their Chain. There is usually little hierarchy in these groups, since Links believe in equality. But there is often a leadership structure to make things easier.
Ex-Links: While it takes months to years of your life to become a Link, leaving means just walking away. You keep any facets that are singular to yourself, such as weapon usage. You lose any abilities that rely on the help of other Links.
Your former Links will react to you in a different way depending on their basic tenets. They may see you as another individual who is welcome to be recruited again. They might see you as an enemy.
Class Skills
The Chain class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Climb (Str), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Escape Artist (Dex), Jump (Str), Profession (Wis), Ride (Dex), Sense Motive (Wis), Use Rope (Dex)
Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Intelligence modifier
Class Features
All of the following are class features of the Chain prestige class.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: The Chain gains proficiency with any weapon or armor that has a chain component.
Link Bond: A mutual understanding arises between members of the same Chain, allowing them to fight as one. If you are fighting with other Links in your Chain, you all get +1 to Initiative and a +1 dodge bonus to Armor Class. You lose these bonuses if you are flat-footed. You can not be surprised unless all Links are surprised. You can not be flanked unless all Links are flanked. These bonuses only occur if there are more than one Link fighting together, within 100 ft.
No Weak Link: You get +1 to all Saving Throws for every Link that is within 100 feet. They don't have to be in your Chain, provided that they are your ally. At Level 1, you can only get a maximum of +1 from 1 other Link. After 5 levels, you can get +1 from up to 5 other Links (Maximum +5).
Chain Proficiency 1: Gains
