      Wow, this book was pretty awesome. Dark Kiss is the right blend of romance, action, and suspense. It's a definite page turner. I read this entire novel in one sitting because I could not wait to see what happened next! The characters are believable and easy to relate to, and the plot is intriguing. The story idea itself is unique, and I had no idea what was going to happen next. I cannot wait for the sequel! Rowen created a rich world with captivating characters. I enjoyed reading about all of the characters, even the bad ones. Each character had his or her own personality, and each one had his or her own voice. The story was told from Samantha's POV, and she is a likable character. It wasn't terrible being inside her head. She isn't some whiny emo girl. She takes charge and does what she has to do. Bishop is an extremely flawed hero, but I couldn't help liking him as well. My absolute favorite character, though, is Kraven. He's hilarious. I love his snarky attitude. The world-building was excellent, and I feel that I have a pretty good grasp of the world Rowen created. She did a terrific job of explaining things without including information dumps, which I hate in books. I got to learn about the world right along with Samantha, but Sam didn't ask a ton of dumb questions, so it wasn't annoying. Also, the world Rowen created is unique. These angels and demons are unlike any angels and demons that I've encountered in the YA angel literature. The rules are different, and good and evil doesn't seem to be as clearly defined as they are in a lot of the books. Trinity, New York, is an intriguing place, and I can't wait to read more about it. Rowen's writing was good, but her overuse of the word "flippant" got on my nerves a bit. I hope that will be edited out of the finished edition. Half of what was said was said in a "flippant way." It got to be annoying after about the fifth "flippant" in a row. Other than that, I enjoyed her writing. The pacing was spot on, and I never felt bored. The plot was suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat. I had no idea what was going to happen next, and that doesn't happen to me often with books. Usually I can predict the ending, but I had no idea what was coming in this novel. That was refreshing. Furthermore, the ending tied everything up nicely without a cliffhanger. Things were left open for a sequel, but the main questions raised in this novel were answered by the end. I appreciate it when an author does that. Overall, I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys any form of paranormal story, but is tired of the typical angel book. Dark Kiss is an amazing and unique novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page. Be prepared to lose sleep with this one.

      Welcome to Samantha’s life: she’s smart, fairly attractive, very conservative, and being kissed by the hottest guy in the local club. Oh yes, the guy, the one who lives just a few doors down and the one Sam has had a crush on for years. Too bad he’s also sucking out her soul! Balls! Should have known that kiss was too good to be true.So, what does a high school girl with no soul do with herself? Sam begins to eat uncontrollably though never satisfied, shivers from the intense cold she now constantly feels, and runs into a completely hot yet totally brains-scrambled angel by the name of Bishop. At a single touch, both Bishop and Sam begin to feel some relief from their various ailments: Bishop’s mind clears and Sam begins to feel warm once again. Oh, and Bishop tells Sam he’s an angel sent from Heaven to complete a top-secret, save the world from total annihilation mission. There went that warmth Sam was feeling. Here’s what I like about this novel:1)Sam: although she can be a bit angsty at times, Sam always seems to step up to the plate and help in whatever way she can. She is also very determined and willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish her goals and those of the Earth-saving team. Sam has a hidden reserve of strength that makes her the strongest character in the book and as the novel continues you just like her more and more.2)The Earth-saving team: Bishop is not the only member of the team. There are two other angels, Connor and Zach, and two demons, Roth and Kraven, the last of whom is Bishop’s snarky yet seriously funny brother. Huh? The angel and the demon are brothers? Angels and demons are working together to save the Earth? Indeed they are! Turns out there’s a big bad out there that no one in either Heaven or Hell wants running around unchecked. Because the team is made up of such divergent personalities there is always a palpable tension among the members. The tension just makes the story and the characters more fun and, at times, a bit unpredictable.3)The amount of unanswered questions: Yes, I liked the unanswered questions. Sure, Rowan ties up some of the loose ends but the questions she leaves unanswered are legion. The ending of this book is quite satisfactory but the unanswered questions leave the reader knowing there is more of this cast of characters to come and that is a very good thing!I only have one complaint about this book and it’s a very minor complaint. There is a fair bit of high school drama in this novel; I know, it’s a YA novel there should be high school kid drama but as an adult reader, I can do without said drama. With that being said I really do feel this is a minor complaint and barely distracts from the awesome of the book as a whole. Overall Rating: 4½ super-strong stars out of 5!Next up in the series: Wicked Kiss

      With a lovely cover and great synopsis, I was expecting to love this book. But, I could not. Still, the book is good it just didn't grab me the way I wanted it to.The book follows Samantha, the main character who finds herself fighting a war after a dangerous kiss. Samantha then is on a journey to save the world. I like the plot. It had some great world building that capture me. Angels, souls eaters, and demons, the plot moved quickly. It definitely kept me entertained with all the clues, missions, and new people popping up into the story.The love interest in the story definitely went places that I didn't see. I loved that both of characters faced an uncertain future with all that is done and held back from them. Both Samantha and Bishop grew lots in knowledge and in their love for one another.What I couldn't get into much was the characters themselves. Bishop I could step into, but I had a hard time understanding and relating to Samantha. I hope that I could pick up this book late and get into it.Overall, Dark Kiss is an good book. If you love angels stories and wars between good and evil, read this book.

      I’m very conflicted over this book. There were parts of it that I really liked, and then there were things that left me feeling underwhelmed. I was hesitant to pick this one up because I’m kind of burned out on all of the angel/human love stories, but I decided to give it a shot because it sounded different and exciting. Sam (Samantha) our main character just had her soul sucked out by a guy she’s had a crush on for years, but she doesn’t know it yet. All she knows is that she is constantly hungry and no matter how much she eats, her hunger is never satiated. Sam couldn’t believe Stephen wanted to kiss her at the club, and when he up and leaves her on the floor afterward (she blacked out) it leaves her hurt and confused. Then she meets Bishop, an angel who had his brains fried when he fell to earth. Bishop was sent to earth to stop the “grays” — a group of soul-sucking evil-doers — and he needs to find the others on his “team”, but that’s kind of hard to do when your mind isn’t working. When Bishop meets Sam and she touches him, Sam has a vision of death and destruction of which she seems to be right in the middle of, and Bishop immediately begins to feel better. It’s then that he realizes he needs Sam’s “gift” to help him find the rest of his team and put an end to the grays. The problem is, after that wicked kiss at the club, Sam is now a gray — one of the very beings Bishop was sent to destroy. So, yeah, the concept isn’t bad — not wholly original, but decent. I liked the idea of angels and demons being forced to work together, and needing the help of an enemy was a nice conflict, but there was still something that wasn’t clicking for me. I think the main problem was the two main characters and their “insta-love”. I liked Sam and Bishop okay, but there wasn’t anything overly great about them, and I totally didn’t care that they had the major hots for one another. The scenes between them were almost always the same thing: There would be some hand-holding to get focused, and then a few longing stares and then Sam would get pissed at Bishop for something and storm off, only to come right back to him later. It got to the point where I felt like the relationship was being forced on me. I almost would have rather seen the two of them NOT attracted to one another and let that build over the series. I didn’t feel this particular plot point really took the story anywhere, yet it felt like the primary focus. There was a lot of stuff, that to me seemed important, that was just glossed over, making me feel like I’d been cheated out of something. The one character I liked a lot was Kraven, a bad-boy demon with a lot of attitude and plenty of depth. He was far more interesting to me than either Sam or Bishop and I wanted to see more of him. His scenes really made the story come alive, and I almost wished he had been the main character. Aside from the Sam/Bishop issues, I found myself enjoying the story. I pushed past the smoldering glances and uber-angst for the action scenes, and to find out what had happened to cause the angels and demons to work together to save humanity. There were plenty of twists, that while predictable, were still interesting. Unfortunately, by the end, I had a lot more questions than answers. Overall, the book was just okay for me. It has a great premise and it is well-written, but the heaviness of the too frequent, and too similar ”love” scenes between Sam and Bishop weighed it down. I liked it, but not enough to be screaming for the next installment. However, I know plenty of friends who love their angst and angel/human love stories and they will undoubtedly love this book. If you fall into that category, I would recommend this one to you.

Read Dark Kiss by Michelle Rowen, and I am sure you will find yourself hungering for more! Dark Kiss is delectable—so tasty, I devoured it in one sitting! Yes, this is another book in the angel/demon category, but, even with the aspects that resembled other books, I still really enjoyed it. The only thing that bothered me is the very déjà vu feeling I got because much of the plot line resembled the old WB drama, Charmed. (I mean there’s a Source (of evil) and the Hollow (which sucks good and evil inside it)—both of which are very similar to the television show).I know quite a few people are burned out on the whole angels and demon scenes; so, I’m going to try to convince you WHY you should read this book.1.) You don’t have to spend half the book watching the main characters try to figure out who and what they truly are—that’s the biggest thing that bugs me with some paranormal books. It’s so obvious to us as the reader that at times you just want to rear back and slug someone while screaming, “Seriously? They have wings….must be an angel or demon!” It’s not like this with Dark Kiss…right from the start, Samantha figures out who Bishop (we’ll call him Cutie #1) is and who Kraven is (we’ll call him Cutie #2).2.) There is plenty of action! There wasn’t any down time where the characters were moping in self-pity because “woe is me….the world is ending and I don’t know what to do.” Instead, the characters are straight forward with what needs to be done, and they don’t sit around—they get straight to work. There was never a dull moment!3.) The hottie guys! Bishop, angel, has been sent to, quite literally, save the world. However, when he falls from Heaven into our world, something goes wrong and he ends up a little disjointed. Enter Samantha who’s touch can open Bishop’s mind and make him sane again. Not only that, but they have an intense pull towards each other. This pull is what creates the romance in the book. Now, I do wish there was more romance because I’m a sucker for it, but I’m hoping that we will see more of that in the second book.4.) Then we have Kraven, demon, who has also been sent to save the world. He’s dark, sarcastic, and all to willing to kill whatever gets in his way. Let’s say Bishop’s the light that Sam is drawn to, but who can resist Kraven, the dark? I really enjoyed him, and I have a feeling we are going to see quite a bit more from him in the second book. Can we predict love triangle? 5.) The ending is satisfying. While there is plenty still up in the air and much to still be resolved in future books, the ending does not leave you screaming and pulling your hair out. I don’t know about you, but I really don’t enjoy cliffhanger endings. It frustrates me that I have to wait a year in some cases to find out if someone lives or dies. I like when things are wrapped up (somewhat), so I can have some closure but still look forward to the next book.So…don’t be put off by the fact that it’s another angel book. It’s refreshing in its own way, and the guys are swoon-worthy. I think you’ll find Dark Kiss to be a tasty read, so get sucked into Michelle’s world—you never know what you’ll find!

      just like every other book where a girl finds out about a supernatural race, she is portrayed as dimwitted and simply dumb. Sams attitude towards the fact there a "soul suckers" currently roaming around the city is shocking. it annoys me how irritating it is to read how she handles the whole situation on finding out about Bishop. its so hard to describe, this book is so conformity!!!

      Really 4.5 StarsBackground: Samantha is just an ordinary girl, except that she craves attention everyone once in a while, otherwise she is perfectly normal. That is until she is kissed by her long time crush Stephen, only it isn't what she expected it to be. Samantha realizes that the kiss has changed her and finds a very strange guy with bright shiny eyes on the street who tells her that she must help him. Thrown into a world of angels and demons, this ordinary girl must figure out who can be trusted.Review: I am happy to say that I could not put this book down. First off, the cover is what pulled me in, very dark and alluring. Then I started reading and at first was very confused. Samantha is a fairly likable protagonist, but she was a little underdeveloped for my liking, thus 4.5 not 5 stars. Rowen wrote Sam's character in a way that thrusts us right into the story but doesn't really build her up until much later.What I loved was the suspense and action. There was constantly something happening, and because the character development in the beginning was a little lacking in the beginning, this was possible. Right off we are with Sam as she has her life thrown upside down by Stephen's kiss and then immediately after that she meets Bishop and the others. This was a very quick read because of the swift plot-line, I think it is a great alternative to many of the other angel books already written in the young-adult genre. It was a little more macabre and not as... angsty (not saying it wasn't angsty but lesser than most).
