      Chapter 1

      Christian sat up straight. He was drenched in a cold sweat, his breath coming in great gulps. He kept seeing the pool of blood, torn flesh, and Delilah’s scarlet hair lying around her pale face as her amber eyes stared up at him. She kept telling him to go, but he couldn’t.

      The alarm kept blaring at him, and he blindly shut it off before trudging to the bathroom for a shower.

      He much preferred the dreams where he woke up in her warm embrace, looking through a haze of red because her hair was still draped over his face, bathing him in her vanilla and jasmine scent.

      One of these days I’ll grow a set and ask her out.

      He knew they were meant to be, but he was still waiting for the right time to tell her.

      Delilah wasn’t like any other woman. She didn’t look through him, only seeing his strange behavior. No, she saw him for who he was, and seemed to genuinely like him.

      His hold up was that he’d seen the guys she went for: big, bold, and confident. All the things he wasn’t.

      * * * *

      There was a knock on Delilah’s door, pulling her from sleep. She was still wrapped in a blanket on the couch, her Kindle lying beside her. There was a massive kink in her neck.
