Guiding The Youth Of The New Generation - Murtada Mutahhari
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Abu ‘Abdillah (peace be upon him) narrates from his ancestors (the A’immah (peace be upon all of them) who have said the following: "Once a man came to the Messenger of Allah (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah - what is knowledge?’ The Messenger replied, ‘It is silence.’ The man then asked, ‘Then what?’ The Messenger said, ‘It is listening.’ The man asked, ‘Then what?’ The Messenger said, ‘Then it is remembering.’ The man asked, ‘Then what?’ The Messenger said, ‘Then it is to practice (what one has learned).’ The man then asked, ‘Then what O’ Messenger of Allah?’ The Messenger said, ‘Then it is to disseminate (that which one has learned).’"

Greetings be upon you O’ Abal Fadhl al-’Abbas ibne Amir al-Mo’minin ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib
"How wonderful is
The patient one, the fighter,
The protector, the helper,
And the brother who defends his brother,
Who responds to the obedience of His Lord,
Who hopes for that which others have renounced,
Of abundant reward and beautiful praise…"
Ziyarat-e-Warith – Ziyarat of ‘Abbas ibne ‘Ali (peace be upon him)
We commemorate and congratulate firstly our noble Imam of the Time, Imam al-Qaim al-Mahdi and all of the true servants of Allah on the auspicious 1,400 birth anniversary of the dauntless lion, valiant soldier, selfless servant - the Moon of the Bani Hashim, Hadhrat ‘Abbas ibne ‘Ali.
Hadhrat ‘Abbas is one of the finest examples of a Shi’a (follower) of ‘Ali and in light of his 1,400th birth anniversary, we dedicate this book to this great and noble soul. It is hoped that, Insha-Allah, with the reading of this book, the Muslims community - especially the youth - will be guided and aided in their struggle towards identifying the true Islam of the Prophet, to strive towards an understanding of this wonderful way of life, to become a real servant of Allah and to give up their life in the path of Islam just as Hadhrat ‘Abbas ibne ‘Ali.
"I can never weep over the loss of this world and try to escape death when it comes to me. Rather, I will welcome death if it comes to me in the way of Allah. I shall submit to death cheerfully, joyfully and happily, for Paradise is a much happier abode than this world. This world is not a place worth living. Fortunate is he who dies for Islam." – Hadhrat ‘Abbas ibne ‘Ali.

"From cradle to one’s grave,
Life seems but an illusion.
The phase of youth so brave,
‘Tis an even greater illusion."
Abu Faiyyaz
This book is the fruit of one of the many discourses of the distinguished thinker and scholar, Ayatullah Shahid Mutahhari. Yet again, he conveys the dire need to re-think how we address challenges posed in the modern era dominated by Western culture and its attendant values.
This is a continuation of his life-long quest to bridge the gap that seems to separate the traditional language of religion and the language of modernity. The consequence of such a gap has given rise to misconceptions which have become ‘concepts’. One such concept
is called ‘the generation gap’.
Having gained currency, this misconception which has now become an accepted concept, and has taken the form of a self-fulfilling prophecy, has actually created a ‘gap’ between generations.
It has given a license and respectability to the younger generation to be ‘different’. To use modern parlance it has become ‘cool’ to dress, behave and act differently. This is the roadmap that leads to MTV and the land of
