    Hold Fast - Aimee Imbeau

    Introduction

The dream of writing a book was put into my heart 10 years ago. I wasn’t sure what that book would be about – I actually thought it would be more of a children’s book – or a youth historical novel based on the book Esther. That might still happen one day since the dream for it is still present. But God put another vision for a book that felt more achievable for a first publication – a 30-day devotional. As I was reading God’s word, I noticed an interesting theme – holding fast, or standing fast. I was intrigued by this theme and as I continued to read, I would come across it again and again. I felt the prompting of the Holy Spirit telling me this was the topic for my devotional.

In a world that tugs and pulls at us for our attention, we need to remember to whom we are to hold on to, to whom we must rest in and from whom our strength is found in. My hope and prayer is that this devotional will serve that purpose – a reminder for us.

I also wanted this devotional to consist of short readings that get to the heart. In some days, I talk about marriage. If you are a single woman (or a man), feel free to mentally change it to where you feel God is directing you. I also wrote this devotional with women in mind. If you are a man reading this devotional, please keep that in mind…and let me know what you think!

    Day One

    Colossians 1:21-23

"And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which, I, Paul, became a minister."

It can be so easy to get distracted by earthly desires. Gurus of all kinds hand out promises to the hurting like lollipops. We will grasp at anything that will give us any kind of hope, even when we know it is just temporary hope. When that fleeting hope fades, we'll be on the lookout for a new hope. And the brutal cycle continues. It is only when we trust in the true hope of Jesus Christ that we acquire our eternal and everlasting hope. In this passage, Paul is urging us to be steadfast in the hope that the gospel brings - the only true and endless hope. Through the sacrifice that Christ made, through giving up His body, we have been reconciled to God. Remaining steadfast in this hope will allow us the opportunity to be presented to God holy and blameless; beyond reproach. Now that is hope! Let us not be moved away from the hope Jesus has freely given.

    Prayer

    Heavenly Father.

Thank you for the ultimate hope we have in Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank you that through Jesus, we can come before You, holy and blameless. Our sins have been washed white as snow. Please help me to not move away from this perfect hope.

    In Your name, Jesus,

    Amen

    Day Two

    Philippians 4:1

Therefore, my beloved and longed-for brethren, my joy and crown, so stand fast in The Lord, beloved.

Right after that encouragement, Paul addresses a couple of women in the Philippian church who are having a disagreement. He urges them to be of the same
