About this ebook

The voice of the singer was coming from my right side. I began to walk towards it. It was a handsome young man, singing an Arabic song. He had a one string musical instrument called ‘Iktara’ in his hand. I heard the words very attentively. He was singing, “Everyone wants at least a little love in his life, may be a glimpse of love.”

When I came face to face with the singer, I was amazed to see that he was a very young Arab man, quite handsome. I said, “Wow! You sing beautifully!”

The young man gave me a very pleasant smile, having heard my words of admiration.

Rain in desert is like a dream come true. The dry hot sand gets quenched and people get relief from scorching heat. However, for the people like me who live in air-conditioned apartments and drive air-conditioned cars rain does not matter much.

I had been living in UAE for more than two decades but I had never seen such heavy rain. It had been raining for about nine hours. I was on my way to Dubai from Fujairah. It was a long drive which would have been pleasant had my car not broken down. It was past midnight, about 1:00 am in the morning. I was stranded in the middle of the desert with my car in that vast stretch of desert. My driver, Martin, was equally helpless. For some time, we tried so find the fault with the car, but we did not succeed. It would start and move, but would not gain speed.

Generally, there used to be a lot of traffic on that highway twenty four hours in a day, but now it was almost deserted. It was impossible! I could not believe it. I had been sitting in my car for more than half an hour and not a single vehicle had appeared.

Fujairah is famous for its black mountains. The scene was different now. The bright lightening flashes made them look clean and bright. There was extreme silence in the vicinity. My driver, Martin,
