About this ebook

Featuring a brand new introduction from Eva Verde, talking about what Jackie and her books mean to her!

‘An assassin of gender stereotypes and patriarchal double-standards, Jackie made sure in her books that women like Lucky succeed in all the places a man can – and do things better, too’ EVA VERDE

'Jackie Collins’s daring, unapologetic stroke of the pen, combined with her glorious wit, has single-handedly given creative license to new generations of authors and storytellers.' COLLEEN HOOVER

Owner of the luxurious and exclusive Keys complex in Las Vegas, Lucky Santangelo comes up against Armet Askarani, a ruthless billionaire middle-easterner potentate with three wives, who has little regard for women except as sexual playthings or breeding mares. Armet wishes to purchase the Keys, and is shocked when he hears that Lucky has no desire to sell – whatever the price. That a mere woman would turn him down is insulting and unthinkable. And so the battle for power begins…

There have been many imitators, but only ever one Jackie Collins.  With millions of her books sold around the world, and thirty-one New York Times bestsellers, she is one of the world’s top-selling novelists. From glamorous Beverly Hills bedrooms to Hollywood movie studios; from glittering rock concerts to the yachts of billionaires, Jackie chronicled the scandalous lives of the rich, famous, and infamous from the inside looking out.

Author

Jackie Collins

Jackie Collins has been called a “raunchy moralist” by the director Louis Malle and “Hollywood’s own Marcel Proust” by Vanity Fair. With over 500 million copies of her books sold in more than forty countries, and with thirty-two New York Times bestsellers to her credit, she is one of the world’s top-selling novelists. Six of her novels have been adapted for film or TV. Collins was awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire) by the Queen of England in 2013 for her services to literature and charity. When accepting the honor she said to the Queen, “Not bad for a school drop-out”—a revelation capturing her belief that both passion and determination can lead to big dreams coming true. She lived in Beverly Hills where she had a front-row seat to the lives she so accurately captured in her compulsive plotlines. She was a creative force, a trailblazer for women in fiction, and in her own words “a kick-ass writer!” Her fascinating life as a writer and icon is explored in the CNN Films and Netflix documentary Lady Boss: The Jackie Collins Story. Good as an audiobook but have your earbuds in if you listen at work.

Mini-Review: I first began reading about Gino and Lucky Santangelo in high school. My summer vacations were spent devouring Collins’s books. Goddess of Vengeance is just as good as the first books in the Lucky series. In Goddess of Vengeance, we find Lucky and Lennie still married and crazy about each other. Lucky hasn’t slowed down and is still the successful business woman. She’s trying to find a balance between work and family as her daughter’s Max’s 18th birthday is fast approaching. Max has dropped several hints that she wants to move to New York City, however Lucky has her reservations. Lucky was wild and ambitious at Max’s age, however she wants a different, settled life for her daughter. Max is determined to get from underneath her mother’s watchful eye.Armand is a successful business man and is not use to the word “no”. He views women as inferior, as they should be seen and not heard. He has his eyes set on The Keys and will do everything it takes to own it. When his offer is turned down, he’s infuriated. He arranges a meeting with the owner and is dumbfounded to learn it’s Lucky. Lucky is not threatened by Armand and refuses to meet his demands. Armand has decided to take matters into his own hands, as Lucky hasn’t given him a choice.I suggest reading Poor Little Bitch Girl prior to Goddess of Vengeance. Characters from the former book appear in the latter. Collins continues their storyline and makes minimum reference to their back story. Goddess of Vengeance is the perfect companion for a day at the beach. I hope Collins continues to write more in the Lucky series.

This book started out so slow, but then it got to be really good. I had to make time to be able to read it. :)

Great cast of voice-overs, non-stop suspense, naughtiness and raunchy to the core. Goddess of Vengeance is as raunchy as I expected, plus so much more. I had forgotten how wild Jackie Collins novels can be, it had been a long time since I had read one. However, this was quite different as I got to listen to it instead. My first audiobook experience with Jackie Collins was quite surprising, as this was also my first time in actually hearing her voice. Although, I did find Jackie's voice to sound exactly as I imagined. Sydney Poitier sounds so soulful with his deep voice, and together with their cast of characters, they did a great job on this audiobook. Another first for me was reading about Lucky Santangelo, since the series can be read out of order, I didn't feel as if I missed anything by not reading Jackie's prequel to this book. I found the complete cast of characters to sound pretty realistic. In Goddess of Vengeance Lucky has her hands full, when Armand the billionaire prince shows up in Vegas, with intentions of buying her hotel and casino, The Keys, although she's not selling. Meanwhile her spoiled daughter Max, and her mixed bag of friends are up to no good, and unknown to her mother, Max decides to throw herself a bash, for her Eighteenth birthday. Later Max ends up involved with a man a decade older than her, and she also knows he is one of her mother's friends ex's. While Max lustfully dwells on her relationship with this guy, her brother Bobby has problems of his own trying to run his chain of night clubs, yet still maintain his relationship with his down to earth girlfriend, Denver. Denver is constantly plagued with doubts in regards to her relationship with Bobby, who at times seems to far out of her league. This book is full of non-stop naughty, erotic and lustful action that kept me wondering what would happen next. If you are looking for a book that will take you away from your reality for awhile,(that is unless your reality is like this book, than that would be a bad idea) Goddess of Vengeance will do just that, plus more. As this cast of characters can easily be envisioned, as you listen to each CD. I found myself taking guesses at who some of these characters Jackie portrays in her novel, could actually be in real life, many times throughout the audiobook. Jackie's style of writing makes it pretty easy at times to figure out who some may be, without pointing fingers. I loved listening to Jackie's voice and that of Venus, Lucky's friend, throughout the audiobook. Their voices are so unique, and lets not forget about the voice of Mr Poitier. The only problem I had with this audiobook was trying to distinguish between the voices of Max, Denver and some of the younger female characters. Mostly due to them sounding similar, when they spoke to each other. Maybe Collins should take this into consideration when chosing her voice-overs, by making sure voices are not similar to each other in tone, as this would improve her audiobooks.
