About this ebook

Life is filled with complexities, ups and downs, bumps and bruises; yet, it is a beautiful journey. It's the love, the gift of extraordinary people along the way that makes it worthwhile. I had to write this book! I want to honor an inimitable woman named Mandy who taught me so much but most importantly, how to love. This book illustrates the fragility of family bonds, lack of understanding of the aging process and what is important in dealing with the davasting impact of a loved one's diagnosis and experience with alzehimer's. Even though this book journeys through some events from childhood to some of the most difficult chapters of my life, it is about unconditional love and learning that finger pointing and blame has no place during these heart wrenching periods. This is an account of life's lessons and the most valuable objectives being to learn to grow, to forgive, and to heal in order to move forward. Most importantly, it is a testimony of faith and knowing that no matter what we go through, God never leaves us to go through it alone. He knows our heart, sees our efforts and when others may forget, God Knows Our Name.
My uttmost desire is that this books (in honor of and in the spirit of Mandy), sheds light, enlightenment, and encourages and inspire you on your journey to being better.
Be blessed!! Ann

Just call me Ann. I am shown on my books as Frances Patterson Harper Ann; because any and every variation of my name is shared by other authors, ironic but true. I am a southern girl, born, educated and have lived in Georgia all my life. Even though many other authors share my name, I embrace my uniqueness in all that I am and do which is reflected in the thoughts that make up all my books. I love the arts. all of them! I am a singer, I play piano, and I have been writing all my life. My philosophy of life is to be better today than I was yesterday. My must haves in life are love, respect and kindness. I am a positive individual who believes in being genuine yet tactful. My life is all about uplifting, inspiring and loving people. My favorite past times are learning, connecting with others through positive expressions-(singing, writing, conversations and empowering social events), What makes my spirit smile is lots of sunshine, sandy beaches and family. Add to that chocolates, flower gardening, nature in general, and I am a happy camper!! What puts a smile on my face is my daily morning quiet moments of meditation and gratitude to God for loving me and keeping me. It is then, and often many times during the day, that I express my gratitude for the blessings of family and all that is good in the world. Listen, my writing is a healing and instrument of growth for me. It is my hope that it does the same for you in some way. Journey with me on my website: fdharper22.wixsite.com/harperbooks and accept the inspiration through my writings. GET TO KNOW ME... Read my books. Blessings~.

God Knows My Name - Frances Patterson Harper Ann

    Foreword

I am blessed! Certainly, I do not own exclusive rights to that phrase. It is my hope that when you read that sentence, a voice inside of you said, I too am blessed. What blesses you or makes you proclaim that statement? For me, it is not just one thing or one person in my life neither one quality or experience that I have had that makes me feel this way. It is a universe of things, experiences, feelings, people, and beauty that validify this statement as my truth. All these things originates from God and my love for Him and His unwaivering love for me. From my childhood and until this day, my favorite inspirational song is Yes Jesus Loves Me. There’s nothing else more powerful that a song can tell me than that! It’s to the point, it’s simple, and it’s assuring. It, indeed, is part of my truth in the fabric of who I truly am…I am His child, and He is my heavenly Father.

God is a generous God and all of us, any of us, can point out his generousity in a person that He has put in our lives. Perhaps it is a husband, a wife, a sister, brother, cousin, child, or Mom or Dad. Perhaps it is a Grandmother, Grandfather, teacher or many or most of these that blesses us with their presence and the value of the experiences they bring to us. This book, though it tells of many individuals and experiences, is born from the presence of an inimitable individual that impacted my life and it’s direction in a magnanimous way! I would like to introduce this person to you in hopes that you will be able to relate and identify that person or persons in your life and treasure them as I treasure her. She’s a beautiful blessing! I hope you enjoy reading this book and that it will inspire you not only to count your blessings but to acknowledge to this person/s, that your life is much richer from having them as a part of your journey.

    GOD KNOWS MY NAME

    By: Frances Patterson Harper Ann

    INTRODUCTION:

There is this lady that I’ve loved from our first encounter. There was just something about her so profound that I at first could not even categorize the feeling. I could not put a word to the experience of being near her. All I know is that she exemplified a sense of humble, quiet strength. A strength that had the potential to take over and over-power the best of them, yet through respect and consideration of others, she channeled it as a calm even flowing stream. She has this gift of making me feel protected from the world. I always felt that she would position herself literally between me and danger for the sake of my safety. In her touch there is tenderness, love and comfort to an infinite degree. How amazing it is to feel this! If I could, this is what I would wrap and place under all the Christmas trees in the world for all to have. It is simply beyond words!

It is not that I looked at her as her feet never touched the ground, or that she is perfect, a saint, or an angel. She isn’t any of those, and I thank God for that. There’s nothing like being assured that we are human; it creates the insight to know neither you or anything you do will be perfect; however, that also raises the bar on how far you can take greatness. I think it is just when I look at her, I genuinely see her, who and what she is. As the years come and go, I realize that there will be few, if any at all, who will have the opportunity to really see you that way. It appears to me that people see their concept of you based on their knowledge and experiences, their securities and insecurities, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of their own character. I learned quite a while ago that no matter how loudly you shout it out, sky-write it , broadcast it, or display it, people will only see you according to their limitations and perceptions. It is the formula by which individuals measure beauty, success, popularity that will eventually lead to how their perception of you places or displaces your value and importance in regards to their agenda. There was a phrase that I heard this lady use, too much sugar for my dime. I don’t know where it originated from or how it was first used, but the older I get, the clearer the meaning becomes. I will revisit this phrase. Her honesty, earnest demeanor, beauty, love and wisdom made her that to the very people who know and were assumed to love her.

Seems sometimes when your light shines so brilliantly, people run from it as they were being caught in an unexpected summer rain shower. I, on the other hand, was always drawn in for a closer look at her. On many levels, she is an excellent blueprint of a truly great woman of substance, spirit and inspiration. Flawless, of course not. As I think of her I understand that love is so much more than loving the good qualities, traits and characteristics, it is loving the whole person, the good, the bad and the indifferent and yes, even the ugly.

This lady’s wisdom and common sense is awesome! Although not highly academically educated, the way she navigated through life through her troubles, downfalls, losses, and periods of lack, is nothing short of astonishing. I’ve watched her with her back against the wall, seen her resolve problems without resources, watched her create major results from minor sources.

Why, I can’t help but love her!! Of course you know this lady is my Mom. The feeling I couldn’t categorize (at birth) is love, she taught me how to love, which till this day, I consider the most valuable lesson of my life. How fruitless life is if one never learns this process. Many experience it, receive it, encounter it, and go through it, without learning just how to love.

It is with great honor that I dedicate this book to my Mother, Mandy Orsberry Patterson, who I love beyond words. The value of what I have learned by being blessed to have her in my life far exceeds anything I could ever learn from opening a book or any of my life’s experiences.

When I came of age, I realized that people are in your life for two basic reasons, either for you to learn from them what to do or what not to do, what to be or what not to be, with the common thread being to learn from them and their experiences. This is true not only in the people in your life but in the world in which we live. The lessons I learned from conversations and observations of my Mother’s wisdom and life experiences have helped me tremendously in my life’s journey.

It is my heart’s desire that she will know somehow how important she and her life’s journey is to me and how much she is loved. It is my hope that within this book you will connect with something that genuinely prompts you to show your love to your Mom by throwing your arms around her and giving her the hug of a lifetime, because life is short and this might be the only chance you get to do so.

I also want to dedicate this book to my two wonderful daughters Melissa Brooke and Melanie Nicole Harper, who have been repeatedly prompting me to write this and many other books. I am amazed that when I felt I had experienced love in my other relationships to the highest possible level, I became a mother of two beautiful babies that made my heart feel an even deeper and greater love called Motherhood. One thing I have learned in parenting is communication with your children has two components-talking and listening. So you see girls, I am listening. (smile) Thanks so much for your inspirations and hopefully the value of the time and effort I put in this book will be of benefit to someone in some ways. I can’t express how very, very proud of you, as young women, I am! Be Blessed!! Mommy loves you!!!

When I look at people randomly, I realize that we all have a story to tell. Our lives are lived out as scripts on the stage of life, unfortunately, unless we become celebrities, there’s only a small private audience to witness it. Some get the plot and some don’t. I’ve always felt that there is value in the purpose of us being here, to breathe this air to see this beauty that only God could create! Our journey may not always play out like an action movie but nevertheless, may be of interest and purpose to more than just ourselves. Part of our journey is learning what and when to share. I’m a relatively private person in the sense I don’t get to share what’s within in conversation often, but singing, writing and music have always been my confidants and instruments of expressions. I have concluded that words should not be wasted if they don’t bring value or worth to someone. Now, at this point in my life, I am choosing to express myself through this book so that many who felt like they know me can get clarity of what makes me tick, the highs and the lows of life’s experiences from which I have truly learned a great deal along the way. Being a passionate woman, my views come out laced in conviction and energy which can easily brand one as a know it all. Nothing could be further from the truth, when I think of all there is to learn and know, I am humbled. As a child I prayed for wisdom. I was always impressed with those who knew and just the act of knowing. Today I am thankful to God that the learning process is lifelong, that it is just as important to recognize wisdom when you see/hear it as it is to gain it, and that wisdom is virtually free and doesn’t cost a dime. It is a gift that is available to us all regardless of race creed or color, age, or gender, and any other contrasting or similar analysis.

    So, without insinuating, assuming
