      CHAPTER 1

      THE RESTORATION OF THE JEWS

      It is a common belief among people of various faiths that the recent return of many Jews to Palestine and their establishment of an independent state on May 14, 1948, is a fulfilment of prophecy. They say it is now a partial reality, but it will be completed in the near future and that will usher in the premillennial period. The middle part of the word the millennium is a Latin word which means a thousand years and the ending of the word ism really means a doctrine and pre means there is something before the thousand years in the doctrine. It is the doctrine that Christ will come again before he begins a thousand year reign. That is the basic definition of the term pre-millennialism and that is the subject of this book.

      Premillennialists believe that the kingdom of the Messiah will be set up at the second coming of Christ in which the Church and State will be combined. It will be a kingdom in which Israel will be restored to national sovereignty in the land of Palestine. She will be exalted over the nations of the earth and the Gentiles will be blessed through and in subordination to restored Israel. Of course, Christ will rule in person on Earth from the throne of David in Jerusalem. Not only the Gospel will be preached, but the Power of the Sword will be enforced. The controlling authority of government will be used to uphold the authority and reign of Christ.
