    Preface

Ok, so for you now find yourself in the position where you want to either continue your family or start a new family and there is the small problem of a vasectomy in the way of this. You are not alone. Many men find themselves in this position every year due to many reasons. Feelings range from anger that they were forced into having a vasectomy by a previous partner who subsequently ended the relationship, to frustration that they had a vasectomy prematurely thinking that they did not want any more children and now do. There are many different combinations of emotions in between too.

Here in Nottingham, Mr Duncan Harriss operates on hundreds of men every year and with many years of experience, Mr Harriss and the team have collated a vast knowledge of vasectomy reversals un-rivaled elsewhere. There are so many factors that contribute to a successful vasectomy reversal, that this book has been compiled based on fact and scientific research and to supplement information found on www.thevasectomyreversalcentre.co.uk and yourvasectomyreversal.co.uk.

This book is designed to assist you to make the right decision for you and understand what you should be focusing on when making your important decisions. Some of you reading this may not have had, or may have missed the lessons in your education that give you the grounding to move forward or to fully understand your circumstances.

The book has been written answering the many questions we are asked on a daily basis.

    Introduction

    The Male Reproductive System

The testes (balls) produce around 50,000 sperm an hour in tiny tubes called seminiferous tubules. They do not become fully working sperm in the testes because after they are formed, the sperm move through a 20 foot coiled tube of epididymis which is a C-shaped storage chamber. It takes about 2-3 weeks for the sperm to pass through the epididymis where they develop fully, or mature and there they stay until sexual arousal occurs.

On arousal, muscles in the epididymis are stimulated to contract and this propels the sperm to go through one of two straight and wire-like tubes called the vas deferens. As they pass through, liquid from the seminal vesicles and prostate are added to produce a mixture of fluids called semen.

As the two vas deferentias get nearer to the urethra, they join together. Normally, urine passes through the urethra but during orgasm, the prostate blocks off the bladder and the sperm within the semen are ejaculated out.

    Chapter 1: The Vasectomy

What happens during a vasectomy then?

Sperm production continues after a vasectomy, however it is performed, but they cannot pass
