      I've had this series on my Nook for some time, so I decided to dive in. Although eerily similar to some other paranormal books I've read, I think I liked this book; I'm still debating this in my head. For me, I don't think the dialogue helped move the story along like it should have, and there were some descriptive parts that could have been deleted. Will I read the remainder of the series? Sure, but I have other books on my TBR pile to read first. :)

      Interesting series. Got shorter and shorter as you go along. Very twilightish, ok very twilightish. If you are a fan of the twilight series, you will like this series a as well. Easy read. Not too complicated.

      I'm having a hard time reviewing this book. At times, I wanted to laugh and say that this was WAY too similar to certain other teenage girl meets vampire books. But, then I would read a few more pages and think, okay - here's something different and I like her twist on it and I like reading more about these thoughts/feelings/actions that were lacking in those certain other books. 3 1/2 stars is what I would prefer to give this book, but alas - I'm going with 4. The reason I choose to give it 4 rather than 3 is that I enjoyed the characters and the premise and I was glad that I didn't have to read "are you scared yet" a hundred times - Thank you Hocking. After being dragged around by her friend, Jane, Alice meets Jack (and soon after, his family) who are vampires. She doesn't know it right away, but soon enough - the signs are there. She can't explain her desire to spend time with him, but it isn't like the attraction that everyone else seems to experience when they are around him. But, then she meets Peter, Jack's brother. Talk about love triangle! I did get a bit irritated with Alice at times - she just seems a bit too angry, but then again - she doesn't have the most wonderful home life with her mom, so maybe she has an excuse for her anger. And I wish that Mae would keep her hands to herself a bit more, but other than that - I enjoyed the characters (especially Milo, Alice's brother). I have already started reading Fate, the second book in this series and all I can say is that as much as I liked this book, I am enjoying Fate even more.

      I bought this book because I appreciate Amanda's stories. I like her plots and admire the fact that she publishes all on her own. However, since a certain vampire series I've had a hard time reading vampire books. To be frank, I can't blame that series alone, I read a few more series after that one and I don't know if it's the lore, but of all the vampire books I've read only one wasn't sissy. I digress ...

      My Blood Approves is not like the other vampire books I've read, it has an interesting storyline, but my cynicism to this genre has clouded my views. Here are a few things I did not like about this book:
      + From the description of the book we know that Jack is a vampire. Yet, the protagonist does not learn this until the book was over 50% complete. As a reader who already knows what's going to happen it's a bit frustrating to spend half of the book waiting for the lead to figure this out.
      + There were a few instances of telling instead of showing, and a few things we were told that didn't seem necessary to move the story along. I think a good editor would have helped in minimizing those a bit.

      On the other hand, there are a few things I loved about the book:
      + The idea that your heart feels one way while your being feels another way is interesting and I'm curious to see how this is resolved.
      + I like that the idea of being a vampire isn't glamourous, that there are consequences.

      So overall this was a good book, but I think it had greater potential. I'm probably going to read the rest of the series, however, this is my last vampire series for the year.

      Amanda Hawking does an excellent job of drawing emotions from her readers. Though the prose were lacking, I found myself caught up in the Peter/Jack love triangle. So much so that I've bought the second book. My only gripe is that instead of calling on her own creativity, which I think Amanda has plenty of, she instead borrows from the Twilight series a little too often. It wasn't over the top borrowing, but still noticeable. Overall, I'd give this a four star for the entertainment factor and her ability to draw me into the world.

      I felt this book had way too many things in common with the twilight series. I wasn't a huge fan of that series - even less so with this first book. (I won't be reading any more of them) There simply wasn't any meat to this book. I read it on my plane flight home from Italy on my kindle and it was such a fast read that I was done in about two or three hours.

      I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I feel compelled to point out though, before I go any further with my review, that I am a huge fan of "vampire books" in general to start with. The circumstances and nature involving the vampires in this book are unique to any other story I've read. Obviously, the one rule that applies to all vampires applies to the ones in this story, and that is that they drink blood. But other than that and maybe a few other little details, this is a new and refreshing take on them. This books starts off with Alice, a Junior in high school, who meets a guy named Jack one night who just so happens to be there to save her life when she gets into some trouble. They pretty much hit it off instantly, but she notices there is something unusual about him that she just can't quite put her finger on. He's charming and seems to have an odd and mesmerizing effect on everyone he comes into contact with, except for maybe Alice. Although, they share a different sort of connection. Alice repeatedly questions him about what the deal is with him, alluding to the fact that she knows that he can't quite be 100% human. She is left with even more questions after she meets Peter, Jack's brother, who she seems to be intensely drawn to. Jack dodges her questions for a while but eventually he tells her the truth about him and his family of vampires. I knew that his secret was going to be that he was a vampire, because the description of the book alone tells us that, but it was very clear that there was more to it than that. It about drove me crazy trying to figure out what exactly the "twist" was going to be, and all through the start of Alice and Jack's friendship I tried to pick up on any clue I could find that would give it away. But surprisingly, I remained stumped until Jack and his family let Alice in on the whole scenario. I was extremely amused and excited by all of the new developments in this book! I also would like to add that I found all of the characters to be likable in their own way. Especially Jack, with his boyish playfulness and caring for Alice. The end of the book leaves Alice feeling conflicted about her fate involving Jack, Peter and their family. She knows that she will be connected with them all, no matter what. But I'm anxious to see what kinds of conflicts and results her actions with bring. Who will she ultimately end up with- Jack or Peter? I can't wait to find out!

      This book reminds me of Twilight. There is no getting around it. There are many similarities. Scoff if you will, but I call it like I see it.Alice is the main character and the story is written in the first person from her point of view. She is a young woman who is the sidekick to the beautiful and popular Jane. She has self esteem issues and comes from a dysfunctional family.She meets Jack walking late at night with Jane . They are being chased by a group of young men who do not wish them well. Jack swoops in and saves the day. He is amazed because Alice doesn't immediately fall all over him like the other girls do. They begin a friendship that looks like it may become something more when she meets Peter. Peter is Jack's "brother". He is stand offish and rude the Alice, but there is something about him that calls to her. She can't get him out of her head.Overall, I enjoyed the story. I would give a caution for younger or less mature readers. There is strong language, sexual innuendo and underage alcohol abuse.

      This was so close to Twilight. Although they were different there was a lot that was the same. I still liked this book, and will continue to read the series. I must say I really do like the character of Jack and Peter is just interesting, to say the least.

      Alice doesn't lead a very exciting life. She lives in a small apartment with her mom (who's always working and never sees Alice) and her younger brother, with whom she has little in common. In school, she's overshadowed by her best friend, Jane, a gutsy and flirtatious extrovert. Things change when Alice and Jane run into trouble one weekend and are saved by a handsome young man named Jack. Jane instantly falls for him, but he seems more interested in a friendship with Alice. The more time Alice spends with Jack, the more she feels drawn to him, even though some of his behavior is unusual. When he takes her home to meet his family, an odd thing happens. The instant she sees his brother Peter, she's hit by an attraction she never thought possible. Alice is confused: she's fallen in love with Jack, but she can't explain her physical reaction to Peter. Fortunately, Jack and Peter know exactly what is going on, and the realization carries consequences Alice can't even begin to comprehend. As her life hangs in the balance, Alice is left to wonder: how much can one girl face? I don't think it's a spoiler to mention that this is a book about vampires. (The title gives it away, right?) As such, it's very rare to find a truly unique take on the subject in what's become and overpopulated genre since the Twilight saga. If you're a fan of Twilight, you will notice many similar issues in this first book. Alice's blood is intoxicating to Peter and Jack, and there's the combination of danger and lust that's so appealing to today's paranormal YA readers. In many ways, Alice is a typical teenager with a single parent, much like Bella. Also like Bella, she is "special" to Jack's family, attracting them (via her blood) in a way other humans do not. Jack's family is likable and in many ways, mirrors the Cullens of Twilight. His "mom" is a nurturing form of Esme, and his "dad" is a wise and responsible patriarch. However, for all its similarities, there are considerable differences as well. For one thing, Alice feels a great amount of responsibility toward her brother Milo. Her relationship with him is an integral part of the book, and one of the most enjoyable. There are plenty of twists and turns that are unpredictable. There are some editing mistakes, but they are easily overlooked. The writing style is easy and entertaining, and the pacing is good. I really enjoyed reading it and am looking forward to the rest of the series.

      I bought the Kindle version as a test for my new Kindle because it was inexpensive. I didn't expect to love it, but I did! I got sucked into the story and had to immediately purchase the next book once I was finished. Screw Edward, Team Jack! Can't wait to read the whole series!

      My blood approves is an easy read. There are way too many similarities to Twilight for me. It didn't really break off from Twilight until the last quarter where the reader is left with a cliff hanger. It took me several tries to read this book. It was after the last try when I was about half through the novel that I could finish it. I might read the rest of the series if the books are offered free on the Kindle but even that is not a guarantee.

      My Blood Approves is the first of a young adult vampire series and was amazed to see the kindle version priced so cheap, ao, I bought it. It is a fast read with a slow-moving storyline that is a bit redundant at times, but intriguing enough to be entertaining. I am a bit curious to find out what happens in the rest of the series.

      My Blood Approves by Amanda Hocking is the first installment in her Young Adult vampire series. When Amanda approached me about reviewing her novel, the first thing that caught my eye was the title. It peaked my interest- then I read the blurb. She really got me there, I have a hard time saying no to the supernatural young adult books. Good thing too, because I really enjoyed this one- and I will be reading the sequel!We get to follow Alice Bonham as she becomes fast friends with Jack, a mysterious man that comes to her rescue. Alice is oddly drawn to Jack, and notices that others can't seem to resist him... I mean, he's definitely above average looking, but why are other women drooling at his every word? And why do her moods mirror his own? What's going on here?!My Blood Approves is very predictable, the title alone gives Jack's secret away- he's a vampire! Don't let this deter you from reading the book, it is a fun, light read. Especially if you're in the mood for something in comparison to Twilight- there were a few other series this reminded me of a great deal, but now that I'm writing my review I can't remember. I was a little put off with the fact that Alice didn't figure it out until halfway through the book with the amount of hints dropped, but I couldn't stop reading. Amanda really kept me engaged in the story despite the flaws I found- and that is incredible. I had to know what happened to all of the characters next!Alice is very much an apathetic character, she was believable. You know, one of those teenagers that is just walking with the currant. Letting life take her where it will, not making many decisions for herself. Her brother, on the other hand, is quite the opposite. He, Milo, likes taking care of her, of the household too, and worries about her. I thought her relationship with her brother was riveting. I could just see him, plain as day, standing by the stove with a sullen look on his face. I felt angry for him too when Alice skipped out on a gourmet dinner he whipped up for her and Jack. I've got three little brothers, so the thought of Milo being hurt bugged me. I hope he has a future in the next books- he was such a great character!We've got a cute, fresh take on the vampire bloodlines aspect of the story. A love triangle- yeah, that's right! I've got one question for Alice. WHO are you going to pick?! Jack? Peter? I guess I will have to read the next book to find out :) This book is definitely worth the small price- you can get it for .99! If you like vampires and young adult novels- check this book out!       This is an excellent book, perfect for those of us who love Vampire/Human romance. The Author does a great job of making the Characters "come to life". I am about to start book #2 and my hope is that its as good as the 1st.

      I was very curious whether or not I would enjoy this one, after reading of Amanda Hocking's rise to fame through e-publishing. I did like the story, but it must be one of the first books she published, as the writing seemed a bit stilted. And the grammar! Perhaps its a generational thing (as in, I'm old) but the interchangeable usage of then and than, and bear and bare made me a little nuts. I will def read more, to see how this novelist progress. I really admire her motivation and perseverance.

      In My Blood Approves we meet Alice Jack Peter Mae Milo and Ezra. Four are vamps and 2 aren���������t. Jack saves Alice and her friend which is how they meet. Jack falls for Alice but there���������s a twist from fate because apparently she���������s meant for someone else. We get to follow these two and definitely find ourselves wanting Jack and Alice to make a move. With this enticement I kept reading and couldn���������t wait to find out what happened next. So I approve.

      This story is a new twist on the whole vampire love story thing. The characters good well thought out characters that are loveable with the exception of one. They are developed pretty well. I must say that although I found some things to be slightly boring and skeptical I still liked it. There were quite a few grammatical errors to sort through. I could have also used some more action and less hate streaming off of Peter. Well I could have dealt with it better if it had been better explained for why he was that way. At any rate I will continue this series because I fell in love with the characters. I want to know what happens and how this story will develop.

      The ordinary life of a teenager, Alice, suddenly takes a turn for the better & worse. She finds love in an unexpected place & poor Jack loves her back. But Jacks brother has a claim on her.
      This was awesome. I couldn't put it down. The life of a normal teenager that gets turned upside down. She finds herself in the middle of a vampire family & loves them all. But it's her blood that wants only one.
      Will she be able to get past that in the next book. I will be going straight to read it now.

      My Blood Approves By Amanda Hocking was a serious downer compared to Hollowland. I was expecting a similar book despite its cringeworthy title. I was sadly disappointed.I can generally tell by the first few sentences whether or not I'm going to like a book. I ignored my first impulse to shut off the book and go watch My Little Pony, and I'm sad that I didn't. I'm sure that what Pinkie Pie was doing was waaay more exciting.That's my biggest issue with this book. Other than its much too Twilight-esque storyline, nothing really happens for the whole book. There's the exciting rescue at the beginning (almost an actionable case of plagiarism to the twilight series) and then 80,000 words of nothing. The main character, Alice, goes out with her new guy friend, Jack, (the one who saved her) then she sleeps all day, then she goes out, sleeps. They don't even do anything that exciting on their little excursions. They go to a concert and hang out in a park.It takes the majority of the book to even get to the point of the book. The great vampire reveal is done in a creepy "room for one more" sort of way, only there isn't. Alice wants to be with boyish savior, Jack, but because of some weird chemistry thing she is biologically attached to Peter, the asshole who lives in his mancave down the hall in their mansion. The entire vampire family is beholden to this chemical link, and they all have to accept that she belongs to Peter.I'm going to repeat that. She belongs to the asshole brother of the guy she likes, no matter what she wants. Not only in a freaky vampire culture way, but in a physical way. After she meets him, the feelings she has for Jack, her younger brother and her life melt away into mindless adoration of Peter.And people complained about Twilight. At least it was subtle .The scene that sits in my brain (searing like a cigarette burn) is that of Alice trying to seduce Jack (even though Peter has every right o kill them both) by biting her lip hard enough to make it bleed in rivers down her face. Anything sexy in that is lost on me. Blech!Most things I'm willing to forgive at only $1.00, but this was just bad. I don' t even want to give it props for being a fast read. It was just horrible.Skip this series if you have functioning brain cells or wish to retain them for future use.next Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

      This was, to me, a version of Twilight without the glitter. I could see where it was going from the beginning. There was no suspense, no "what is he?" to it what-so-ever. And I really don't like Alice. She's a complete MarySue. For her to drop Jane when she meets Jack, pissed me off.I do love Milo. He's a wise young man and am looking forward to seeing what happens to him in future books. I'm also curious about what's going to happen with Alice/Peter and Alice/Jack, so I will be reading the rest of the series.If you liked Twilight, you might enjoy this series, but I'm not sure. I know that, despite my complaints above, I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to the rest of the series.

      I’m going to start off with the most obvious thing to say about this book… it’s about vampires. The totally rad Amanda Hocking has brought us yet another riveting tale of mythical creatures and this time, it’s the blood sucking variety. I started reading this after I had already finished the Trylle Series by Miss Hocking and I have to say that I was a little apprehensive. It takes a really, really great and unique vampire story to get me to love it… and she did it!This first book in the My Blood Approves series starts out with our main character, Alice and her friend Jane as they attempt to get into a club that they are clearly too young to gain admittance. After leaving the club, a group of guys start taunting them and soon the taunting takes a sharp turn towards violence. Just in the nick of time, a hansom stranger pulls up and gets them to leave the girls alone. Jack is friendly and sweet and Jane is clearly into him so Annie leaves him alone. Because of this, it is very surprising when Jack texts Annie and asks her to start hanging out. Annie goes to Jack’s house and meets his family who immediately fall in love with her, except Jack’s brother Peter. Peter has some serious issues with Annie that borders on violence. Annie can’t figure out why it bothers her so much and why she is strangely attracted to Peter…I know what you’re thinking when you all read my little synopsis… Twilight-y! That was my first thought as well. I cannot stress enough how disappointed I was that this book was turning into Twilight two-point-o. It was tragic! How could Amanda Hocking do this to me! But as I read further, I began to see the differences and I started to like it…dare I say…more than Twilight?This book was really, really great. Typical of Hocking’s style, I felt a rollercoaster of emotions while reading this book. I fell in love with all of the characters, even Peter… well mostly Peter. Why do I always go for the bad boy you’re not supposed to like? God only knows, but it’s my curse! I loved Peter. I may be saying this because I’ve read all the other books in the series already, but he is definitely my favorite character.While the setting and characters do feel a little Twilighty at times, the mood that Hocking sets is very unique unto itself. There are always going to be similar themes in vampire novels, how different can you make vampires? But the thing I liked most about this book was Annie’s character. She was strong in a way that a lot of female characters are not. She really listens to her heart throughout the whole book and is always true to herself and her ideals. Sometimes, this gets her into a little bit of trouble because she is so headstrong, but aren’t we all?Overall, I loved this book as well as the series! I will try and post the reviews for the other books too. I hate to be all fan-girly over Amanda Hocking… again, but really and truly she’s great! All of her books are so fun to read and are unique.       My Blood Approves is the first book in Amanda Hocking's My Blood Approves series. This book pretty much follows along the lines of the typical YA vampire romance with a slightly weird love triangle. There is really nothing extraordinary about this book, but the characters are interesting and that prompted me to continue to read on. I will be continuing with this series in the future.

      My Blood Approves is a quick paranormal read that sucked me in from the beginning, although I’m still not certain why even now writing this review I just can’t figure it out. The book begins with Alice and her very promiscuous friend Jane (though I don’t know why Alice is friends with her) trying to get into a club however as they are underage they are denied and entry and decide to walk home down a dark street which is really smart. Anyway these weird crazy guys start following them ready to attack. Then suddenly a car comes out of nowhere and the driver gets out and scares the pants out of the guys, who run off. The girls’ saviour is Jack who tells the girls to get in his car and proceeds to take the girls for coffee. During this coffee session Jack seems to really like Alice much to Jane annoyance. From this first meeting Jack and Alice are kind of inseparable and it soon becomes apparent to the reader that there is something different about Jack (women all swoon over him, his skin temperature is a bit weird, he only goes out at night), he’s a vampire (which is kind of obvious from the title) however it takes Alice a fairly large part of the book to finally find out what Jack is. Alice is soon meeting Jack’s family including his brother who Alice has an instant attraction to (there is a reason) even though she also really likes Jack, can someone say love triangle, who will she choose? Overall I enjoyed this book however there were a few things that irked me I mean I could not relate to Alice at all, she was obsessive about Jack waiting for him to text her, thinking about him all the time even when she went to school all she did was daydream about him and his family. When she did get home from school she would go straight out again with Jack, I surprised she even went to school why bother when she did nothing. I guess this may be hard for me to understand being a self confessed nerd but who does that? The plot was slow paced and was a tad predictable, it had some definite parallels to twilight and other paranormal books. Whilst my blood approves is not breaking new ground I found it hard to put down, the book sucked me in and I wanted to know what was going to happen next. I think I will pick up the next instalment in the series.
