About this ebook

the big man puffed up his chest and said. ‘me mahut me wants to know ok.’
tom said. ‘mah what’?
then dodo whispered. ‘mahut.’
‘ok mahut what can I do for you.’
then the man from the car said as he was lighting a cigar. ‘It’s not what you can do for mahut; it’s what mahut can do for you.’
‘oh and what might that be.’
‘well now mr. watkins mahut wants to tell you for your own sake to turn around and go back to the village then back to england or from wherever you came from.’
‘but we don’t want to go back to the village we have come here to find someone and that’s just what we are going to do ok.’
‘tell me mr. watkins are you not afraid what might enter your camp in the middle of the night, I mean people have been known to be killed by bears up here.’
‘well now if a bear or any other skunk enters our camp in the middle of the night then we have the right weapons to take care of them ok.’
‘i’m afraid you are not getting the point mr. watkins I see you have a lovely young lady with you well what if she was to fall into the wrong hands you will never forgive yourself, no I think you should go home and I won't tell you again.’
when he had said this he had looked at the two men and they had seen the nod of his head and they both pulled out a gun.
but at the same time dodo had pulled his gun up level with his chest.
the man by the car shook his head at the two men and they put their guns back in their pockets.
dodo spoke next he said. ‘now you listen to dodo if anything happens to these folks any one of them I dodo will seek you out henderson and destroy you so remember if you hurt them then you have brought it on yourself. and you won't be able to go to sleep at night in case dodo comes for you.’
then henderson said. ‘now you listen Indian talk like that can get you into deep water in fact the water will be so deep you won't come out of it.’
then henderson turned to face tom and said. ‘listen watkins I will tell you no more go home before someone gets hurt.’
then he got back into the car and the two thugs did the same and the car left for the village with the land rover following behind.
when the car and rover were out of sight dodo said. ‘come on folks we won't make hookers corner at this rate and we must get there before darkness sets in.’
they all set off and dodo came by tom’s side and said. ‘listen tom don’t take any notice of that big mouth henderson he is only trying to frighten you.’
‘yes dodo but why, I mean why is he trying to frighten us there must be a good reason and I think that he or his henchmen have something to do with the disappearance of Julie’s family.’

    CHAPTER 1

A smartly dressed young woman got out of a taxi on Walton Road East London. When she had paid the taxi driver she turned around to look at the building, she went closer to the main door and began to read the address disk on the wall she went down the list until she came to the one she was wanting to see it read.

The Thomas Watkins Detective Agency. We will take on any job any place that’s why they call us EXTREAME DECTECTIVE’S. The young woman entered the building and could see on a notice board on the wall the floor that the Agency was located on. It was the third floor. She looked around for a lift but could find none she headed for the stairs when she got to the third floor she could see the office with the Agency sign on the door she knocked and walked in. There was a woman with slightly graying hair sitting at a desk she thought the woman was about sixty years of age. The woman stood up and said. ‘Good morning can I help you.’ ‘Yes I’m looking for Mr. Watkins’ ‘Can I ask what your business is with Mr. Watkins?’ ‘Well I would like to speak to Mr. Watkins alone I can’t tell anyone about why I want to see Mr. Watkins you see it’s for his ears only and someone’s life may depend on my secrecy.’

‘I see, well I don’t know if he has come in yet I will just nip into his office and see just a moment.’ The woman walked to a door on her left and knocked and went in she was gone for just a couple of minutes then she came back into the room. She said. ‘Mr. Watkins is in and he will see you, what is the name please.’ ‘My name is Flintstone.’ The woman opened the door and said with a slight grin on her face. ‘Miss Flintstone.’

The woman backed out of the room and Miss Flintstone could see the start of a grin on the man's face and she said. ‘Before you say anything Fred is not my father.’

The young man stood up and said. ‘Forgive me please it’s such an unusual name and I suppose you have heard that on hundreds of occasions.’ ‘Yes once or twice.’ ‘Ok Miss Flintstone won’t you take a seat.’ ‘Please call me Julie and forget the Flintstone ok.’ ‘Ok Julie and my name is just plane old Tom, now what can I do for you.’ ‘Well Mr. Watkins.’

‘Hold it just Tom will do fine ok Julie tell me what you want me to do for you.’ ‘Well Tom it’s about my father and my brother, you see my father has been for the want of a better word an adventurer for years he has been in just about every country in the world looking for gold. Well, his last venture was when he took off for Canada he has been to Canada three times but this time he has been there now for about eighteen months. My Brother James received a parcel from him about six months ago, we had not heard from my father for about a year but this was not out of place. He was often gone for years at a time without getting in touch with us, well getting back to the parcel when James opened it up he phoned me right away and told me to come to his flat in Knightsbridge. He was very excited but could tell me nothing over the phone,

Well when I got to James flat he took me into his living room, then I asked him what was he excited about, James went to his sideboard and opened a drawer and took out a small box and laid it on the table then he said.

‘Hold on to your hat Julie this time the old man had made it big.’

Then he started to open the small box and to Julie’s surprise a block of gold was laying on the table Julie estimated the block to be about two inches in length by about one and a half inches in width by about an inch thick.

Julie let out a howl and said. ‘My god the old codger really did it.’

‘Yes but Julie wait until I read this out.’

James went on to read the letter.

Julie stopped here and looked at Tom and said. ‘What assurances can you give me that what I’m about to tell you won't go outside of this room, you see I need to know that what I’m about to tell you, you will keep to yourself.’

Tom crossed his heart and said. ‘I will keep anything you may say to myself I won’t even tell my Mother, that’s her who brought you in by the way.’

Julie took a letter from her bag and began to read it aloud.

‘This is what my father wrote Dear James and Julie I have sent you this ingot of gold to prove to you that I have found a fortune in gold. I found a vein of gold four inches thick and I can't tell how long it is but I can tell you that I am a very, very rich man. Now I need James to come out here to help me, I have put an air ticket for one in the box I will send another letter telling James where and when I will meet him. Just give me a couple of days and I will have everything ready then I will get in touch your loving father.

Then he puts a P-S in and he says don’t worry kids it’s the real thing this time. And that’s it Tom.’

‘So what do you need me for Julie?’

‘Well Tom James went out to Canada three months ago and the last time I heard from him was just before he was setting off to meet dad in the outback of Canada, not a word since.’

‘And you want me to go take a look.’

    ‘That’s about it Tom.’

‘Julie do you know how much it will cost to go to Canada, you will have the plane fare and hotel bills and the like.’

‘Yes well Tom money is no object you see me and James were left a fortune by my Mother and we are very rich but dad would never take a penny from Mother or as you see Mam and Dad broke up Ten years ago. Then Mam died two years ago and left us well off.’

‘I could take the job on but I can tell you before I do once again it will cost a lot of money, and I won’t fool you I have no jobs on at the present. And this job is heaven sent but I want to tell you the job won’t be cheap.’

‘Ok Tom but the cost has no worries for me, now when can we go.’

‘Oh hold on what did you say, when can we go, I was not thinking of you coming along Julie I mean the middle of Canada is no place for a woman an English woman at that.’

‘Don’t be silly Tom I can look after myself.’

‘Ok, ok when would you like to be off to the wilds of Canada?’

‘As soon as possible I don’t want to waste a second something bad might have happened to them both.’

‘Ok Julie while I get some equipment sorted out you go and book two tickets on a flight say on Wednesday that gives me three days to do my stuff ok.’

‘Ok Tom hears my address where you can reach me and my telephone number.’

    CHAPTER 2

Tom woke early the next day, he got showered and shaved and went down to find his Mam as usual frying breakfast as he entered the room his Mother looked up from the frying pan and said. ‘Good morning Thomas I was wondering why you were up so early is it because of that young lady last night or have you wet the bed.’

‘Oh come off it Mar that young lady brought us some well needed work and that’s why I was so friendly with her.’

‘Oh well you still haven’t told me what the job is but by the look on your face it must be a good job.’

‘Well now it all depends on how you look at it.’

His Mam turned around to face him and said. ‘Oh what do you mean Tom?’

‘Well Mar you aren’t going to like it you see the job is abroad.’

    ‘Abroad where abroad.’

    ‘Canada.’

‘Canada oh I don’t like that, not one little bit.’

‘Oh don’t be daft Mar I have been abroad before.’

‘Yes you have Thomas Watkins but going abroad with your Mam and Dad when you were ten years old is not the same as going around the other side of the planet to do god only knows what.’

‘Mar I won't be gone forever I’m only going to do a job, and by the way I was fourteen at the time.’

His Mother brought his breakfast to the table and sat down besides him.

She looked at him and said. ‘Well are you going to tell me when you are leaving or are you just letting me guess?’

‘I don’t know yet Mar but I think it’s within the next few
