Our book, "Go Get Your Job - The Quick Essential Guide To Finding A Job Now", is a collaboration of veterans of the workforce, Cynthia Banks, R. Yvette Poole and J. B. Walker. Collectively, we have dozens of years of work experience in the private, public and non-profit sectors, including hiring and firing, getting hired and getting fired, quitting jobs and finding new ones. Two of us started out as lawyers, but please don’t hold that against us. Our third collaborator anchors our team by bringing many, many years of experience in human resources.

INTRODUCTION
You’ve decided you want to get a job, you need to get a job, you had better get yourself a job, or else. Whatever the case, you’re going after a job. But which one? What do you want to do? Who do you want to work for? Would you prefer a large corporation, a boutique firm, a government agency, or a non-profit organization? What job would you find exciting, career-enhancing, or lucrative? Your answers to these questions will depend on your interests, aspirations, experience, education, and a whole host of considerations too numerous to list. Whatever your reasons, once you’ve selected a particular job or set of jobs to pursue, you need a plan for actually landing a position, especially in these challenging times.
We’re all aware the job market has not been the brightest picture over the past couple of years. The unemployment rate in the United States officially hit double digits in early 2010, with 10% of the working population looking for a job, and the rate hovered around 9% for most of 2011. There are recent signs of a recovery with the August 2012 unemployment rate dropping to 8.1 percent. Still, the competition for positions remains tough. But here’s the good news: The employment rate
is over 90%. We like the sound of those odds. And we’re going help you get yourself into that latter percentage and join the ranks of the employed workforce.
One of the best ways to maintain the edge over other job applicants is to be determined and very organized. This book is designed to guide to you towards being as organized, decisive, creative, and smart as you can be to give yourself every advantage in your search for employment. It’s a quick read that will prepare you to confidently go get your job.

From your perspective, there are three types of jobs:
(1) The Open Job – This is a job you know (or can find out) about, an actual position that is publicly
