For Mandy Humphries. Wish I’d had the words to explain when I was younger. May have finally found them. Better late than never. If you ever wondered what was really going on in my head, this might explain a few things. Don’t hold them against me.

    Prologue

When is the past the past? Ghosts dead and buried in their own convenient compartmental graves. The mind is a splendid thing. You'd go mad if it wasn't. The mind split asunder into several jagged pieces? Two brains aren't possible. Your mind is your own right? Yours to command, but what if it isn't never was? A parasite grows, dripping poison. The paranoia driving you slowly mad. Knowing it's there invading consciousness, that whisper in your ear, that nagging doubt that tells you to cheat on the Maths test, no one will notice. That nagging doubt eating away. Regret what you should have done.

History is history, never repeated if its never thought of. Mistakes happen, you learn. But if that's the case why were there 2 world wars, was one not bloody enough. The human brain shrinks from what it doesn't want to face. We are not perfect, history cannot be re-written. Time machines can't fix everything, even if they existed.

Two souls intertwined from birth. We all have a soul mate, but what if you were born with one. Fighting for space in a mother's womb, two hearts beat as one, two minds think alike, what if someone knows you so well they complete your sentences before you've thought of them. Two peas in a pod, no but close, sharing the same birthday, if not the same colour. Pink or blue. Given the choice blue of course. Inseparable because he is your best friend.

Fate is fickle, she hates destiny so one day goes and rips up destiny's painting of the world, never once figuring the consequences. A spurt of blood, a promising life ripped to shreds. Jealousy is a cruel mistress, stalking the corridor, infecting the mind, waiting to sink in her fangs.

You move on things get forgotten. But some things should just not happen. Born in July, gone by December. Lessons learned, fate intervenes, history repeats, chaos reigns. The past that was once buried securely breaks its bonds, biding its time like the vengeful vampire, coming back to haunt.

Not expecting that, it came out of left field. Blood is thicker than water right? You'd trust your sibling with your life? They wouldn't shove you off a cliff? Swerve to avoid you at 100 miles an hour? Say never mind when you got the £100,000 in Grandma's will and they got the gold necklace? They always have your back, would never stab you in it? You'd trust them with your boyfriend or girlfriend.

So many clichés, pride comes before a fall. They say curiosity killed the cat, but are you sure it wasn’t independence and stubbornness?

Well this was found in the case notes of Former DS Steven Potter recently. The 5th such case of his to be documented. Let me tell you the story and judge for yourself

    Gemini Blood

    Chapter 1

Jake Marshall slammed his hand into the brick wall and swore as he heard the crunch of bone. Great! Now he appeared to have broken his hand or knuckle at least. He couldn't believe this was happening. It was fucked up. How could they think this of him? They knew him didn't they? He needed to get out of here, he was most useful free. Instead he was here, under arrest on suspicion of the abduction of his 5 year old grandson Jimmi-Eric Marley Marshall. He loved that boy. How could anyone think he would harm a child? let alone his own flesh and blood.

He was waiting for Paul Granger, lawyer to the stars to arrive, so he could be interviewed. If he made bail his superstar status would put it in the millions. Jake Marshall was a world famous actor, Hollywood famous. His rise to fame was remarkable, not because his acting was wooden, but no one had expected him to get very far. The entertainment industry was still very backward when it came to equal opportunities. He figured there weren't many roles a blind actor could play, but the films he'd starred in were blockbusters, not necessarily because of his performance. Metaphorically he was rolling in money. If he counted his fortune he would sleep on a mound of gold. But no amount of gold would get him out of this situation.

He couldn't even comfort himself with the fact that it would generate a lot of news headlines. His publicist always told him any publicity is good publicity, yeah right. That was how he had justified his many affairs, 3 divorces and so on. He was currently married to former make-up artist, Tamara Lambert. But the relationship wasn't working. It would soon end up in the divorce courts. Another millions of pounds settlement, yet another custody battle. He already divided his weekends. Once a month he spent with each of his children. He supposed that was what you got when you had so many. The siblings often got together. The older 8 went to night clubs or took the younger 8 bowling or to the park.

He supposed it was easy when you had children ranging in age from 30 something to toddlers. There was no jealousy. His ex-wives might all hate each other, but they had always worked hard to keep the children's relationships with each other civil, arranging play dates and sleepovers. The newspapers often commented on how calm his home life was. They had no idea. There was always drama when you had thirteen daughters and three sons. He didn't know how he managed to maintain his immaculate appearance when he barely got any time in the bathroom.

He supposed things weren't helped by the fact that 4 of his daughters, as it happened the youngest by each wife Lily, Iris, Sapphire and Tallulah-Madison had been born with the same genetic blindness he had. There was a one in four chance it would be carried on. For
