Get Yo Life: 52 Weeks of Spiritual Food
()
About this ebook
We're smart enough to know wrong from right. We're intelligent enough to pick good over bad. We're even wise enough to know our strengths from our weaknesses. Even so, as women, some days we find our self-esteem playing tug-of-war with the Devil and when we take a minute to examine our lives and the choices we've made, we may be surprised to find ourselves drowning in our own self-induced "Mess-ology"!
"Get Yo Life!" started off simply as a weekly blog with advice from a SistaGirl perspective using sarcasm and humor blended with reality, has since been created into a 52 week plan of holding a mirror to your choices, transforming your confidence, and changing your life one week at a time.

Shaena “Sexcee” Jackson is an author and single mother of 2 boys who has a passion for writing and helping people from her community. Born and raised in Compton California, she was faced with many struggles in her childhood but she never allowed her problems at home to get in the way of her academics. School was always there when neither of her parents were and she fell in love with the idea that she could escape her reality by reading books. She graduated as Valedictorian of her class at Davis Middle School, with honors at Dominguez High School, and on the Dean’s List at Cal State University Dominguez Hills.Although always on top of her academics and studies, she always had a hidden self-esteem issue that no one knew about except her. She struggled with everything about her physical appearance from her big round eyes, thin sandy brown hair, and especially the color of her dark skin.Today, she embraces all of her issues and has become a catalyst for encouraging young women everywhere to value their own self-worth with the use of activities that promote positive self-esteem and a healthy attitude towards life.

Get Yo Life - Sexcee Jackson
Preface
This book was written because...
Sometimes you feel good, your self-esteem radiates your smile and your favorite pair of jeans makes your shape look flawless! Holla!
But other times you feel bad and no matter how hard you try, depression takes over and even looking at your eyebrows make you feel fat! As a woman, we go through an assortment of emotions day in and day out and the fact that we are always our own worst and harshest critics does not make our reality any better.
Get Yo Life
serves as a reminder, through the use of sarcastic humor, wit, and wisdom, that whatever it is you're going through; someone else shares your pain. I have combined the encouragement, wisdom, and advice I have received over the years from my grandmother, mother, aunties, and sister girls and created a year's worth of weekly affirmations, stories, and spiritual food
that will hopefully serve its purpose to nourish your confidence by having you reflect on some of your life choices and enabling you to make changes as you see fit.
Even though this book is set up to be read at the beginning of a new year, it can be read at any time. We often make all of these resolutions at the beginning of a new year, but who’s to say you want to start making changes in June? NOW is always a good time to start making changes girlfriend!
I ask that you keep in mind that every single thing in this book has either happened to me in the past or is about something I am currently experiencing. Please don't misunderstand me by thinking that my methods are the only way of doing things. What worked for me may not work for you and nothing written here should be considered as gospel. If you should find that you’re not getting anything out of it, please feel free to pass this book on to someone who will benefit from it. I’m not perfect, but I’m also not afraid to admit that I’m a constant WORK IN PROGRESS! So if you know me personally, and thought this book was about you, here's a dustpan and broom to sweep up yo CRACKED FACE! LOL! Honey, when the Devil is busy, you're not the only one on his list! So girl, enjoy the book & GET YO LIFE! ;-)
*****
SPECIAL SHOUT OUT:
I really have a special connection with everyone who I consider a friend, but I MUST give a special SHOUT OUT to my good friends, confidants, Sister Girls, and besties, Ms. Champagne TopShelf
Brown and Ms. Taneesha Hardamon for always being there when I need sounding boards to bounce off things that rattle around in my mind that don’t make sense and also for giving me the title to this book. Telling people to GET YO LIFE
on FaceBook may have started off as a joke, but when I realized that the majority of this book was asking women to take a look at themselves, the choices they’ve made, and the behavior they execute in various situations, I knew that I immediately had to change the title.
Bernard Seltzer once said, A friend is someone who thinks you are a good egg even though she knows you are slightly cracked.
CTFUUUUUU!! I hope you 2 know that even though I know I am more than slightly cracked, I also know that I’ll always be in good company with yall!! None the less, I love our friendship and I’m ever so pleased about the bond that we share and continue to build!! Much Love Sister Girls!! ;-)
Do You Know The Internet Acronyms?
LOL – Laughing Out Loud
LMAO – Laughing My Ass Off
ROTFLMAO – Rolling On The Floor Laughing My Ass Off
CTFU – Cracking The Fuck Up
SMH – Shaking My Head
WEEK 1
WEEK 1 - Happy New YOU!!
Happy New YOU!
That's right! Another NEW YEAR! Thank God that YOU are still here to even SEE another year! You know, as I scroll through my friends list on Facebook and my few Twitter followers and see all these declarations that 2013 is gonna BE MY YEAR
I can't help but start to CTFU because wasn't that the same EXACT thing that most of them said about 2009?? and 2010?? and 2011?? and 2012?? CTFU! CTFU!
If it's one thing I know to be TRUE, is that while the days come and go and there's ABSOLUTELY nothing you can do to CHANGE that, PEOPLE don't CHANGE unless they WANT to. So unless you're really willing to PUT IN SOME WORK, and not talk about it but BE ABOUT IT, your 2012 is gonna be EXACTLY THE SAME AS YOUR 2013!
You can make 657,869,902,345 resolutions, goals, and plans until gas prices drop to $1 but if you don't GET OFF YOUR ASS and actually IMPLEMENT anything that you SAY you're gonna do, guess what?
2013 IS NOT GONNA BE YOUR YEAR! I REPEAT! 2013 IS NOT, WILL NOT, BE YOUR YEAR!
Girlfriend, you’ve got to map out your goals with a VEHICLE in mind to how you're gonna get there! And stop putting SO much pressure on yourself that it turns in to STRESS, which results in NOTHING BEING ACCOMPLISHED!
It's OK to take BABY STEPS too. Why are we always trying to RUN UPHILL instead of taking our time and letting GOD steer us on HIS terms and prepare us for our journey upward? We want EVERYTHING RIGHT NOW! We want a BETTER JOB and a BETTER MAN, and our KIDS to do right, and our PARENTS acceptance, and our
