About the Anthology
The present work has been inspired out of a conglomerate of ideas, ideals, aspirations, desires and questions that have survived decades of existence and independence in Africa. Literature in English has been conceived of as a dark room where only the daring and adventurous enter. More especially are the genres of poetry and drama, which have the tendency of receiving very little or no attention at all. This is why the anthology – a product of people from various backgrounds- has sought to discuss and portray several perspectives of African and international themes in various tones. Themes range from affection, through the classroom to the highest office of the land (The Presidency).
Far from being a compendium
of mysterious and highly ambiguous pieces which often require a considerable degree of brain cudgeling, the present anthology introduces poems which educate, entertain, inspire and challenge not only Africans but Humanity to arise and shine. Some of the poems such as Imagine God
and The Tale of Money
will leave a wide, infectious smile on faces who read them. Others such as The Leader
, Debt Relief
and Diamonds are Forever
discuss important issues which face the African Continent.
The contributors have tried to reach their audience through very natural means using suitable language and dwelling on everyday themes. Pieces such as Legon
and the Spirit of Corpus Christi
were written to encourage students to aim at the skies. The anthology appeals to people and personalities from all walks of life and examines themes that have been previously considered by famous poets such as Wole Soyinka.
But in a new light, it is the fervent hope of the authors that the present work will inspire the desire to excel in many hearts and open up closed talents wherever the seeds land.

Foreword
Poetry by Africans in English began in the 1940s. According to O. R Dathorne,
"The period seemed right because of the intense political activity (to which the poetic expression was geared) that was taking place in West and South Africa. A new type of artist was needed, for no longer was the traditional artist able to voice the aspiration of
