About this ebook

Here is a funny fable about Alice Wondrel, a lady who has taken on so much responsibility in her church that she has forgotten why she is doing it all. She is taken away in a whirlwind for an attitude adjustment through encounters with characters of biblical oddity. Grease is the mechanic in the local ghost town. He takes her to see the Mayor who is building a ship in the middle of the desert. The Mayor sends her on a mission with the Gospel Train, but she finds the Conductor and passengers off-putting and suspects she has been caught as a guinea pig for some amusement park. She decides to escape and looks for one of those camouflaged employee exits. This only takes her out to sea on a tug boat with a sea captain reminiscent of Popeye. Soon she is swept overboard and swallowed by a whale. By the time you laugh your way to the end you will find out how this all relates to the committee meeting where she started out. The story is adapted from a hilarious stage play by Mark R. Turner which has enjoyed a few productions over the years. If you contact Turner, he may offer the script for your theater group to produce.

Order! Order! Next on the agenda. Dorothy Osmond, the chairperson, tries to corral the church committee into the last items of business. But everyone has their own ideas about agendas and order. The blustery wind outside plays with the power lines causing the lights to flicker. Dorothy pounds the gavel.

Alice Wondrel bellows back, Dorothy, let's adjourn and get out of here. Do you hear that wind out there?

Hanover Jones chimes in, Right. We all ought to get home at a decent hour tonight.

Dorothy squints at them, Ladies and gentlemen, Roberts Rules of Order is still in effect here.

That does not slow Alice down. Then I move we adjourn. You second that, Hanover.

    Second.

That’s good enough for Dorothy. Moved and seconded that we adjourn, open for discussion and I have a comment. This morning I got trapped between the pastor and Joe. Pastor expressed how keen he was on Joe's idea, how he wanted me to make sure and give it a fair hearing tonight, ... Alice.

The committee members look at each other and mumble.

I drop my motion, grumbles Alice. Get him in here.

Bring him in, orders the chairperson.

The wind surges with the opening and closing of the door and a young man stumbles in wrapped in a coat and hood dripping with rain. He throws back his hood. Whoa! Yikes, man! Huffing and puffing he brushes the rain off and pulls off his mittens. His hair is wild as he smiles at the committee staring disapprovingly. He thinks he gets what they are glaring at and pulls his hair together. Ha! Thought I’d blow away out there! Ha-ha!

That's what we were hoping, Alice aims at the committee which bursts into
