Dedication
This book is dedicated to my wife Brandy who stood beside me and supported me through the many job hunts. She really helped with deal with the stress that I've had when I was between jobs.
After seeing the difficulty my two Sons were having in finding jobs also was part of the impetus for this book. Therefore it is also dedicated to Charlie and Joey and their finding their way in this world.
This book is also dedicated to helping the many that are hunting for jobs out there presently. May every one of you be successful in your search.

About the author
Having done a lot of job searching in a fairly short time brings with it a lot of experience. This book mostly focuses on the years since 2005 when I was laid off from a truck stop in Fountain, Colorado. They required me to finally use the paid time off that I had accumulated and when it came time to go back to work I no longer had a job. That's when I began collecting unemployment for the next six months until it ran out. We ended up losing the mobile home that we were living in since I had no income any longer to pay the mortgage or lot rent. Shortly after this my wife and I had to live in an extremely small Toyota as I recall for a while. I can't say that this was the best time of my life especially after the car broke and we ended up staying in a shelter and then at a friend’s house for a short time.
Since then I have worked in apartment maintenance, call centers and presently I'm working in retail. I've also had to find all of those changes during the worst economic downturn since the 1930's. I'll go into detail some of the experiences that I had when I decided that I had to get us off of the streets. These experiences really changed me in so many ways and I can truly say that I completely changed the course of my life. Of course, I think it would cause anyone to have a major change in the direction that they are headed. Because of what I went through I do feel that I have a few things to share with everyone that most of the people that write these type of books doesn't. I've really been where I feel is the bottom, I've never been back and I never will.
Introduction
No matter what you are dealing with at present it's really not that bad, believe me you'll make it through this time in your life. From this point forward you have so many roads that you can travel on to the future that awaits you. You have so many choices that are available to you right now at this point in your life. Really, when you think about it there are a lot of options that are open to you. You can either work in a field that you know well or you can also make a real change to something radically different. This is something that I did and I really changed the course of my life. It all comes down to how you market yourself and hunting for a job definitely involves marketing these days and actually has for many years.
In this book I have included many tips that are available for you to try regardless of what your choice is on where you want to work. I've also included a few things that weren't very successful for finding employment for myself and for a few others. Also, I've included many very successful techniques of which most of them I've tried at some point. Personally, the best way to learn is from the mistakes that someone else has made and I've made a few of them over the years. Actually, I'm not sure that they were really mistakes as I did learn from each attempt that I made. Therefore those attempts are something that I do consider to be learning experiences.
I'll admit that at one time I found hunting for a job to be one of the most stressful things that I could possibly do with my time. Interviews in particular are something that I found to be extremely stressful experiences that scared me a lot. What I learned is that they don't have to be all that scary in reality if you are properly prepared. Even at first trying to write a resume was something that was a bit scary for me as a resume helps you get an interview. This was because I didn't know how to write an effective resume back then. That all changed because I studied carefully to learn how to be more effective in searching for a job as I would rather be working then not working. It was quite the learning experience that I gained a lot from and of course the ability to earn a paycheck.
When you look through the news, the blogs, the social networking sites it's easy to find stories about people that have been looking for employment for a long time. In most cases if they were more effectively marketing themselves they would be employed and no longer have to be searching for a job. They are not the focus of this book, finding your next job so that you can start to earn a living is. Through these pages you'll learn how to get your application or resume at the top of the stack so that yours will be selected. You'll learn how to effectively market yourself so that you can get the job and begin earning a paycheck again. This is something that I felt I could do something about, that I could help with since I have been there myself.
Never regret.
If it’s good,
it’s wonderful.
If it’s bad,
it’s experience.
Victoria Holt
Find A Need
This is the place that I was at in 2005 after working at a truck stop for 3 years and numerous other times that have came before and after. Always I had to ask the same exact question every time which is where do I begin to go from here. This has been a rather appropriate question for me just as it is for you to ask as you will soon see later in this chapter. Each time
