    Prologue

There are so many mysteries in life. The Universe is one of those mysteries. Who knows what other planets, moons, etc are in other galaxies, and ours.

When we discover a new planet, we just think of a name, like Uranus (someone must have been having a laugh when they thought of that name) and then we give the creatures on these newly discovered planets names, like Martians. It’s not quite as original as you may think, for it bears an uncanny resemblance to the name Martin. Coincidence? Probably. Anyway, the point of this topic is that what we may call Martians, the Martians themselves may call something else, for example. So begins the story of how a certain planet was discovered by a team of scientists…

    Chapter 1

The Discovery of the Planet Beetrot 7

It was a nice, sunny day in the city of Los Cosmos in the year 2136. Children were playing outdoor games with each other while their parents were at work. Well, the children might have been having fun, but three scientists in their lab with lots of weird contraptions certainly weren’t having fun. Or were they? Hmmm…

‘Hey, Dr. Gene Eeus!’ an astronomer with dark hair, of average build, and of average height in his mid twenties shouted at the top of his voice when he discovered something through his technologically advanced telescope. ‘I’ve found something weird through my telescope! I think it might be a planet!’

‘A planet, Dr. Zweistein?’ Dr. Gene Eeus, a scientist with light brown hair, quite thin, and a little smaller than Dr. Zweistein, and who looked like he was in his early twenties replied. ‘So, what’s new?’

‘I’ve never seen this planet before!’

‘Maybe your eyes are getting worse!’

‘No! I mean it! It’s a newly discovered planet!’

‘And, so what name will you be giving it, Doctor?’

‘I don’t know. Um, how about Beetrot 7?’

‘Sounds okay to me! Uh, anyway, have you seen Dr. Boris Nocular around?’

    ‘Boris who?’

    ‘You know, Dr. B. Nocular?’

‘Oh yeah, him. Uh, no I haven’t. Hmmm…I should go and get him, so that I can tell him about my discovery. But there’s a problem, though. What if there’s life on that planet? I mean, what if they are more technologically advanced than we are? Maybe we should just destroy the planet, and get it over with…’

‘You are planning on destroying your new discovery so soon, Doctor?’

‘I feel that it is probably for the best, Dr. Gene Eeus. Firstly, there are lots of planets, so destroying one planet won’t make that much of a difference, and secondly, we could be in danger if there is life on that planet.’

‘What about Martians, Doctor? We haven’t destroyed Mars, yet.’

‘Mars is different. I didn’t discover that planet.’

    ‘So?’

‘I feel that it is not my duty to destroy what I didn’t discover. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to save the world from what could be a terrible thing. I will be a hero!’

‘Anyway, how are you planning on destroying Beetrot 7, Doctor?’

‘You know that big technologically advanced missile that I said I’d keep for a rainy day?’

    ‘Yes?’

‘Well, it might not be raining outside, but I feel like reigning! Now, I must find my weapon!’

‘What if something goes wrong, Doctor?’

‘Good question!’ Dr. Zweistein made his way to the lower left-hand corner of the room, and picked up
