About this ebook

In FORETOLD, the fourth Demon Trappers novel by Jana Oliver, Riley faces the final battle for humanity and Beck's heart—and Hell is the least of her problems

Now that Riley's managed to (just barely) fend off Armageddon, everything's changed. Well . . . most things. After their passionate kiss before the big battle in the cemetery, Beck is back to treating her like a little girl, as if nothing ever happened. While she'd love to just tell him off and move on, Riley vowed to take care of Beck the way he's taken care of her since her father's death—but she's about to get a whole lot more than she bargained for. When she's commissioned to go with Beck to his hometown and help him care for his dying mother, they stumble too close to a dark and murderous secret, one that Beck fears will drive Riley away from him forever. As chaos breaks loose, Riley may be Beck's only hope for redemption . . . and survival.

Meanwhile, up in Atlanta, it's quickly becoming clear that Heaven may have won a battle, but the war is far from over. Riley and Beck face a stormy future, as Lucifer's ex-right-hand-man, Sartael, proves himself to be more resilient than anyone thought. He has Atlanta in his grip and is about to begin a brutal war with the prince of Hell. As the seconds tick down toward a final confrontation, it's up to Riley and the man she loves to finally defeat their old enemy, or lose everything they've fought for.

Foretold is a very satisfying end to an edge-of-your-seat series. Oliver wraps everything up neatly, as well as giving us a heart-stopping story. I'll miss Riley and Beck, that's for sure!

Foretold is the final installment of the Demontrapper YA urban fantasy series about Riley Blackthorne who in the previous book had stopped the end of the world by sacrificing her soul to a fallen angel, Ori. Before the battle, Riley had shared a moment with Denver Beck, a senior demontrapper with whom she had been in love for years. After the crisis had averted, Beck became cold to her and tried to push her away because of the personal baggage he had with his past, leaving Riley heartbroken. In the start of this book, Beck received a call from his hometown with an ill news about his mother dying. Refusing to let Beck be alone in this trip, Riley decided to tag along and realized Beck have been hiding a bigger secret about his past.

The story gained its momentum from the start with Beck’s story. Beck have been reluctant to tell Riley about why the folks in the small town of Sadersville have been defensive and antagonistic as soon as they recognized Beck’s truck. After being interrogated by her, Beck began to talk about his troubled childhood with an alcoholic mother and that when he`s a teenager, he was accused of murdering two boys.

The other half of the book came where we were left off in the previous book with Ori survived his ordeal from the cemetery. Although he had Riley`s soul in his grasp, their contract had been clear that the soul can`t be traded and this brought the wrath from the devil. So, he was given a task by Lucifer to kill Sartel, the leader of the rebel archangel. Ori decided to train Riley to fight against the demon as a slayer.

However, as much as I like with the final battle, I do find its somehow flawed although the relationship between Beck and Riley were resolved unlike the previous books. I do hope Jana continued the series in the future because there are still unresolved issues with Beck’s father, the other bargain with heaven and stuff. For a young adult novel, I do anticipate an adult urban fantasy sequel, maybe with another character like the Demonland`s Blaze who I had taken some shine to. The series haven’t been well-received by a lot of the young adult readers but I had taken a liking with the story and enjoyed it since the first book. I guess the story does similar to CW’s Supernatural and some parts of Buff the Vampire Slayer.

Its an easy read, it doesn’t go overboard with the romance element nor it does give instant gratification like common YA romance books does, and it doesn’t skimped on portraying the gritty nature of the occupation it entails. Some reviewers raised an issue about Riley’s treatment by the men in this story but its just a point of the story showing how a girl struggling in a field dominated by men. Trapping demons in this book is a serious job and Riley are desperate as an orphan with debts around her. For a YA series it does give a mature portrayal on teenagers trying to survive in an unforgiving and adult world. Beck himself is still a young adult himself and even then he is flawed in so many levels.

So far, the book is quite up to par to Keri Arthur’s Dark Angel series and to me, its the best angel YA series that I’ve read. If you’re expecting Cynthia Hand’s Unearthly or Becca Fitzpatrick’s Hush Hush, you’ll definitely hate this book, but if you valued an on-going plot that span four books without unnecessary fillers , kick ass action, and drama that rivalled The Vampire Diaries’s weekly cliffhangers, you’ll definitely enjoy this book like I did.

I have been waiting for this book for a long time. I’m happy to report that I am VERY happy with the way it ended.Plot: This certain plot has been a long way coming. From the first book till now, it has slowly build up to an epic battle of love and sacrifice. I really enjoyed watching Riley grow up from a scared girl to a fierce woman who can kick anyone butts who stands in her way. Each chapter lead up to some intense scenes and some great (finally) romance. In much of this, this is Becks story as well. We, the reader, finally see his past and where he came from. He has guarded it for so long that having it exposed helps the reader understand him more.Love: Can I get a hell yeah!! It’s about time that these two stop beating around the bush and face the music. Finally, Riley didn’t allow Beck to push her away. Instead, she pushed right back, following Beck till he gave up. I adored how much friendship these two have. Despite what they were facing, they were friends and loyal comrades till the end. They fought next and with each other. And in the end, they let love in like a damn breaking from its hold.Overall, I’m very happy with the way the series concluded. Foretold is breathtaking beautiful in every way. From love to action, Foretold gives the reader a motivation to read to the very last page. An extremely entertaining story. Foretold is awesome!

    Beck! Beck! Beck! Beck! Beck!

In an alternate world this book would have been too cheesy for my liking but after everything Backwoods Boy and Princess Riley have been through I couldn't help but grin all the time!

    And also,

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THERE IS NO SEQUEL?! THIS SERIES CAN'T END LIKE THIS! IT JUST CAN'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would've been 5 stars if not for the few things unanswered that are nagging the back of my head - still. I need another book! Like 5 minutes ago T_T

This is the fourth and final book in the Demon Trappers series by Oliver. I really, really enjoyed this book and this series. This book is pretty much Riley and Beck’s book. It also wraps up the story involving the angel Sartael.Riley and Beck spend the first part of the book going back to Beck's hometown to deal with Beck's mother and with the dark secrets that Beck left behind. As Riley and Beck hash things out in the South, Atlanta is having more and more demon problems. When Riley returns to Atlanta she is forced to deal with the repercussions of giving her soul to Ori. Finally Sartael and Lucifer will be dealt with once and for all.Wow, what an excellent conclusion to this series! I have loved this series right from the beginning. Riley is a wonderful character and learning more about Beck's history was fantastic. All of our favorite characters play great roles in this final novel. This is definitely Riley and Beck's book. The first half of the story belongs solely to them and it’s pretty emotional. We learn all about Beck’s sad past and about the dark things he tried to leave behind when he moved to Atlanta. There is a bit of a murder mystery involved. Through it all Beck and Riley are struggling through their issues and finally learning to trust each other.Riley has grown a lot as a character. She is accepting her responsibilities without much complaint and has learned to depend and trust some of the people around her. She grows a lot in power as well and is forced to undertake combat training with Ori. The biggest thing for me was that Riley finally gets some happiness in her life. She's walked such a hard road that she definitely deserves some happiness. That’s not to say things are all roses for Riley in this book. This is an emotionally wrenching read. Sacrifices are made, people are wounded, and at times things are pretty desperate. I enjoyed the investigative quality of the first half of the book. I also enjoyed the epic Demon Trapper versus demons battles in the second half of the book. The book was well paced, impossible to put down, and had some really excellent action scenes as well.I would recommend to the older young adult crowd. There are sex scenes in this book (although not explicit), some swearing, and some very violent battle scenes.Overall I just absolutely loved this final book, although I am kind of sad the series is over. I love this post-apocalyptic demon infested world that Oliver has created. I also love the engaging characters, the fast-pacing, the action scenes, and the wonderful writing. I have loved this series from the first book and this book was like the icing on the cake. Highly recommended for fans of action-packed young adult urban fantasy.

Oh my wow! You'd have thought, after reading so many awesome books I'd actually be able to form words better now... But nope, you're still stuck with 'wow'... Foretold was honestly, amazing. It was such a brilliant end to The Demon Trapper Series... I bloody loved it! I'm very well known for adoring endings to series, unless they leave it on a cliffhanger. Oliver cleared up pretty much everything in this final novel - leaving only a few things for the reader to question.I didn't want this series to come to an end because Riley is really a character with characteristics that I'd love to have. She's brave, selfless, funny, clever and strong... She's brilliant. Honestly, it's the fact that she's so selfless that really made the end of this novel for me... Because we see her being selfish... She refuses to let someone VERY close to her die...The relationship I'd been waiting for finally comes around, and I'm a huge fan of where it went.... and where it's going. I hope Riley does get her happy happy ending on her 18th birthday in Scotland. Oliver fits together two stories within this novel, Beck and Riley's trip... and then the end of the world part two... Now, I really enjoyed BOTH stories, and I have no criticisms... Which is annoying, because I almost always find something (no matter how minor) critical to say (like I don't like the font or the size of the book *wink*) but I can't find anything with this novel. Oliver ended her series well, it truely was an awesome supernatural take. I'd never read anything like The Demon Trapper Series - the demons and things was all new! So maybe you should also give it a go!Rating: 5/5A perfect ending to a PERFECT series!
