About this ebook

Ann dreams of a marriage proposal from her poetic suitor, Eli—until Will Hanby shows her that nobility is more than fine words.

On a small farm in 19th-century Ohio, young Ann Miller is pursued by the gallant Eli Bowen, son of a prominent family. Eli is the suitor of Ann's dreams. Like her, he enjoys poetry and beautiful things and soon, he will move to the city to become a doctor.

Ann travels to Pittsburgh, accompanying her father on business. There she meets Will Hanby, a saddle-maker's apprentice. Will has spent years eking out an existence under a cruel master and his spirit is nearly broken. But Ann's compassion lights a long-dark part of his soul. Through his encounters with Ann's father, a master saddler, Will discovers new hope and courage in the midst of tremendous adversity.

When the Millers must return to Ohio and their ministry there, Will resolves to find them, at any cost. If Will can make it back to Ann, will she be waiting?

Will Hanby is a broken soul. Following the death of his parents, he signs on as a saddlemaker apprentice to Master Jacob Good. Master Good turns out to be a cruel teacher with a thirst for power. When Ann Miller and her father encounter Will, Will is drawn to the kindness and light that he sees in them. As circumstances develop and change, Will flees his terrible master in search of the Millers. When he finds them, he realizes the danger surrounding them all. As a wanted man, he must stay hidden and the Millers could be in trouble. But far more dangerous are the feelings developing between Will and Ann. Can Will overcome his troubled past? Will Ann ever see him as more than a dirty and broken youth? And if Will trusts the future to God, will Ann wait for him until the apprenticeship is fulfilled?Fairer Than Morning by Rosslyn Elliott is probably in the top ten books I've read this year. The story had my attention from the very beginning. Will Hanby's character transformation from broken apprentice to brave Christian reflected a strong sense of personal healing and growth that added depth to the story. I would have liked to have seen more growth and resolution in Ann's character. If Ann's nightmares had been resolved and an additional scene between Eli and Ann had been added, I think the closure of the story would have been more complete. There is a sequel coming out next year, but it does not appear to focus on Will and Ann. Overall, Fairer Than Morning was a surprisingly enjoyable read that I have no doubt I will eventually read again. I recommend it to fans of Christian romances.Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from BookSneeze as part of their blogger review program. An enjoyable story and an interesting peek into a range of social conditions. Fascinating that it's based on a true historical accounting.

I loved the sub-plots that dealt with Ann's father and the questionable choices that he makes (in society's view). I also loved that Ann made mistakes, but wasn't incredibly selfish (like other girls in historical fiction can be portrayed). I loved Will Hanby- a broken soul with little hope in his life. He was the real character I wanted to follow in the book. I loved how we were given a look into his narration of the story as well.I do have one problem with this book. It has nothing to do with the author, or the story itself. It is the cover. The cover of this book drives me NUTS! I feel like it is a very bad photoshopping job. It makes me sad because I know people will pass over this book because the cover is so odd looking- I am telling you... don't. Even if you have to rip the cover off - read this book. It is such a great read, you won't regret it!

Ann Miller is a young woman with a lot of responsibilities. Because her mother died in childbirth, Ann takes care of her father and two younger sisters. Will Hanby is a young apprentice with a horrible master. When Ann and Will's paths cross, they discover they have several things in common. However, they both are potentially involved with other people. Throw in some runaway slaves and a bounty hunter, and you've got a historical novel full of intrigue and romance. As I read the cover blurb, I thought I was getting into a romance. This book was much more a historical novel though. The two main stories being told are Ann's and Will's. Ann has had a hard life taking care of her family. Her father often travels to preach to far-off congregations. Ann also had to refuse a potential husband at a very young age and has been sad ever since. Will has lost both parents, and he became an apprentice to someone who makes saddles. He has a vicious master though, and eventually takes matters into his own hands. Ann and Will were both very interesting characters. They both dealt with struggles to the best of their abilities. While Ann is devoted in her faith, you get an opportunity to see Will truly seek and grow in his beliefs. On top of all that, there is also a story involving two runaway slaves who are desperate for freedom. One thing I found interesting was how the author was able to show very good examples of bad people using Bible versus to support their twisted beliefs. While there are no huge surprises or anything like that, the book is very sweet. If you are looking for romance is may be a little on the lighter end there, but the historical story is absolutely fascinating. Book provided for review.

Living in Rushville, Ohio, personal loss of her mother keeps Ann Miller close to her father in the raising and care of her younger sisters and plays an intregal part in her not marrying her beau, Eli Bowen, when he first attempts to ask for her hand. At the same time in Pittsburgh, PA, Will Hanby is trying to survive at the hands of a cruel task-master, Jacob Good, and live day-by-day untl he can finally be free. This story has many twists and turns that will keep you turning the pages til these two finally find their way to each other. Their's is a sweet and tender romance, but one filled with alot of history binding their tale and lives together. Come into their story as life's circumstances, such as slavery, abolition, runaways, faith, and love find the way into weaving this wonderful tale. When you are reading this story you don't realize just how much history is actually in it. At the end, Ms. Elliott shows all the facts and it is so interesting how much is fiction and how much is actual truth, even down to the pigs in the story. I am really beginning to enjoy historical romance novels and though this one is a little light on the romance, it is still a truly wonderful story. I look forward to seeing what Ms. Elliott comes out with next!! I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a light, historical romance novel. This book was kindly provided to me by it's wonderful author and LitFuse Book Tours for my honest review.

Rosslyn Elliot is a wonderfully talented author! I can't begin to tell you how deeply this novel moved me. This author took emotional turmoil of an apprentice who's master is a mean and cruel hearted man, mixed it with the emotions of a young lady seeking to find God's will and the man of dreams, and gave us a novel that will not only take your breath away, it will sweep you away into a place in history that so many tend to forget. Among the amazing characters of Will and Ann, Ms. Elliot shows us a deeper and truly emotional issue....runaway slaves. I sat here reading about Will seeking a better life away from the abuse and hatred, and Ann who is realizing that God has so much more in store for her, and I truly became a part of this debut novel. I become a bit of Will, I became a bit of Ann, and I even became a bit of Jacob....that cruel and abusive man. It was an amazing trip back into time. As Ann and her family became a part of helping the slaves escape, I felt every emotional thought that Ann dealt with. A truly powerful feeling. The rich historic detail to the underground railroad and helping slaves to seek freedom, never ceases to amaze me. I can't imagine what those people went through. It is an eye opening experience. Will's determination to seek a better life, and his feelings for Ann, was a wonderful moving piece to the story and I found myself often smiling and cheering Will on throughout the novel. I highly recommend Ms. Elliot's debut novel with 5 Books and two thumbs up. This is an emotional journey of God's guidance, hope, love and perseverance. Without that hope, without that love of God's grace, life wouldn't be the same. This novel is extremely thought provoking and one that shouldn't be missed by any reader! I can't wait to see what Ms. Elliot has in store for her new fans.
