About this ebook

Your favorite princes and princesses are back in the hilarious and action-packed sequel to the breakout hit The Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kingdom by author Christopher Healy, which the New York Times selected as one of its best books of the year.

Prince Liam. Prince Frederic. Prince Duncan. Prince Gustav. You remember them, don't you? They're the Princes Charming, who finally got some credit after they stepped out of the shadows of their princesses—Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White, and Briar Rose—to defeat an evil witch bent on destroying all their kingdoms. But alas, such fame and recognition only last so long. And when the princes discover that an object of great power might fall into any number of wrong hands, they are going to have to once again band together to stop it from happening—even if no one will ever know it was they who did it.

We liked the unexpectedly complex characters, especially Briar was a pleasant surprise. The mixture between very PG-friendly lack of graphic detail and the violence getting stronger was a bit strange, because it is not likely that everybody survived the violence they encountered, but we aren't shown any of the dead bodies and there are no described corpses or dead bodies, so there's that. The various love stories bumble along, but they stay interesting.

Such a fun series to read. This second outing of the league of princes establishes details in all the characters and introduces us to some new good and evil ones. But the only fault is any younger reader like my kids love to hear this read to them, but the almost 500 page book tends to become a bit to long for them at times and we had to take a break a few times. Despite that they still wanted to keep on going afterwards.

Ever since their big adventure together, the members of the League of Princes have been at loose ends. When another threat to their kingdoms arises, can they band together again, or will their many differences keep them apart? The evil witch Zaubera is gone, but the juvenile bandit king Deeb Rauber has moved into her fortress and established a small kingdom called Rauberia, from which he plans to take over the world. Rauber is not the only one with plans for world domination: Briar Rose has been cooking up some schemes, as well. She also hasn't given up on marriage to Prince Liam, though marrying bratty Briar Rose is the last thing Liam wants to do. When Liam falls into her clutches, he learns of her schemes, as well as some startling facts about his own past. Can the League of Princes save him from his matrimonial fate? And can they save the kingdoms from Rauber's machinations? To do so, they'll have to storm the castle . . .This book has the same good points as its predecessor, and the same downfalls, as well. It's full of action and humor, and the characters are just as quirky and amusing as before. The book is quite a hefty chunk, though after the first book, that's to be expected. And, though it certainly has substantial length, there's still not a lot of depth to it -- but again, that's in keeping with the tone of the first book in the series. It has just as many fun and often improbable plot twists, and readers who enjoyed The Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kingdom will find this book just as enjoyable. The series certainly doesn't end here, though: the ending of this book definitely sets up the major conflict of the as-yet-unpublished third volume in the series.

Big sigh of relief that book two in The League of Princes series has proven to be just as much fun as the first book. Nice to see the friendships and budding romances develop along with the characters. The story has its slow bits, which was okay as I was enjoying the dynamics that were building between the characters. It was nice to see all of the characters back, including Prince Liam's younger sister Lila, Ruffian (the bounty hunter) and Briar Rose. Especially Briar Rose.... what a great character! She kind of reminds me of Regina/Evil Queen in Once Upon a Time, she has that kind of nasty side to her that isn't 100% evil. Not sure I like the voice Pinchot gave to Snow White, although I have to admit that he did capture her slightly sappy personality very well. Looking forward to continuing with series as a lovely bit of escapism reading... especially given the interesting "tidbit" of information offered at the end of this one.

3.75 starsThis is the second book in the “Prince of Leagues” series, where four “Princes Charming” have joined up to be heroes: Prince Gustav (paired with healer Rapunzel), Prince Liam (Briar Rose/Sleeping Beauty), Prince Duncan (Snow White) and Prince Frederic (Cinderella/Ella). In this installment, Liam doesn’t want to marry Briar Rose, but she kidnaps him to force him into the marriage. On hearing this, the other princes (and Ella) join to stop the wedding! From there, they all end up on another adventure. I listened to the audio (again) and Bronson Pinchot is truly amazing! So many different voices for so many different characters! The story itself I’m giving a “good” (3.5 stars) and I’m adding in an extra .25 for the audio. Despite Pinchot’s performance, I did lose focus occasionally, and I am assuming it was the story, not the performance. I did find the story picked up once the princes were together again (there was some intro where they were separate at the start of the book). Overall, though, it was still a lot of fun! I love Duncan and Snow! So funny! Well, it could be the voices Pinchot brings to them that I love… but it’s not just that! But, it helps. I also thought Briar Rose made a really good villain. I did find some of the voices were probably done more for children (the giants, trolls, and more), so I wasn’t as excited about those.

I don't know why I can't get my ten year old grandsons to read this series. These books crack me up. I love them and can't wait to read book 3.)
