About this ebook

In GUIDED! Shannon combines practical how-to’s and case studies with magical worldwide adventures, reminiscent of Elizabeth Gifford’s Eat, Pray, Love and Sonia Choquette’s Trust Your Vibes.

Shannon’s voice in GUIDED! How to Communicate with Your Spirit Guides is as strong and bright as her personality. Her concise and ‘to the point’ method of writing is refreshing.

In the biography section of the book, Shannon is candid about her tumultuous journey, which includes much sadness and hardship. She writes with empathy.

There are two main sections to the book:

Part I – Ways to Hear from your Guides – is practical and describes in detail how to make a connection with your angelic helpers.

Part II is an inspiring biography of Shannon’s life and is as entertaining as it is informative.

Shannon brings beautiful spirit energy to help people better their lives. I’ve seen it happen

Katlego Msumo, presenter, Soweto TV

Being on the radio next to Shannon has opened my eyes to the invisible world!

Thando Mkhize, presenter on Kaya FM and former Big Brother contestant

Shannon’s ‘translations’ about people who she’s met only through the telephone are somewhat astounding and even a brief time with her will make you rethink any scepticism you have about the supernatural.

Rehana Dada, SAfm presenter, SABC producer, and environmentalist

A spell-binding read. Shannon shows us how though asking, we invite support and synchronicity into our lives. She reminds us we are not alone and invites us to live beyond the five senses. (Dorian Haarhoff, writer, story teller and mentor)

What some of Shannon’s clients have said about her work.

Dear Shannon,

We have never met, but I would like to thank you for the growth that I am now experiencing in my life… After listening to your show on Kaya FM I found the link on your website about the Vipassanna meditation course which I went and did. I found this peace, courage and love within that I’ve always been longing for.

During one of the meditations I saw myself writing this email thanking you for the part you played in my journey back to Self, to God the Source of all there is. Now I face this journey with no fear, attachments, longing or regrets in my heart but liberated and free. God is guiding me every step of the way and His kingdom of heaven was always available to me and all of mankind if only we claim it for ourselves and the responsibility of having it open to us.

Thank you and God bless you a hundredfold for being one of my many beacons of light on my journey back home. Namaste.

Dear Shannon,

Thank you once again for the wonderful sitting. My life has changed completely, and I always use the protective measures that you taught me, with great success. As my guides say, I have a lot to start learning now. I feel very blessed and am even starting to feel special!

Dear Shannon,

I ‘discovered’ your website earlier this year and access it daily, and also browse the various subjects available on it. The simple and profound wisdom have made me take a step back and live my life from a different perspective… What I have come to be humbly grateful for, is that the daily reading sometimes seems to address my inner questions – and I have the feeling that once you start interacting with the site, your guides start working with you more closely. I try to follow their instructions and I know it is a one step forward two steps back, but my focus is now firmly on my spiritual growth and succeeding in completing my ‘life blueprint’ which I undertook before taking form.

Dear Shannon,

Getting a reading was definitely one of the most memorable and affirming experiences in my life. I learned a lot and feel very reassured and cared for.

Dear Shannon,

Deeply, I get a sense and understanding that OF COURSE I am getting messages, and it is like learning a new language, and actually my subconscious has a wealth of info at its disposal- fully connected to the other dimensions. If I send messages of trust to the subconsious, it will respond. Somehow, I know and trust that there is intelligence being sent to me.

Publishers note

The wealth of the Universe is offered to all of us. Yet we block its arrival. Working with Shannon to put this book together, has exposed to me a person who is totally without the fear that besets most of us. She understands that anxiety of any sort is a block and therefore has discarded its insipid clutches. A truly remarkable person!

To my parents who always told me, You are special.

Introduction

When a client walks in and sits down across the desk from me, I say, I am a Spirit Guide interpreter. That means I’m the translator between you and your Guides. The client proceeds to ask questions. I translate the answers exactly as I receive them.

Here’s an example. When I was working in Cape Town, a man came to me for a reading and asked his Guides, Should I marry my girlfriend?

It was the middle of a summer afternoon, but the temperature dropped. I heard a high-pitched humming sound like electricity. My head filled up with information like water filling a fish tank. I felt dizzy, and I visualized a polygon shape, which told me that the answer would be multi-faceted. I channeled the answers so quickly he could hardly take notes:

You know that your parents are against it. They’re afraid that neither of you is mature enough, but they’re really reflecting their own fears about their disintegrating relationship, which has gone downhill since your grandparents passed away about five years ago.

I looked up, and he was nodding. His lips were pressed together, waiting for the rest. Their fears are not your fault. Your Guides recommend that you continue with your engagement. But you’re both going to have to grow up before you’re ready to get married. The client puts his pen down. That’s exactly what’s going on with my folks. Thanks, that makes sense to me.

Usually, when a client asks, What are Guides? I respond, "Guides are like angels, Guides know everything about you. Guides are messengers from God who are trying to nudge you and assist you to go in the right direction.

"Every tradition has angels. God sent angels to people throughout the Old Testament: to Abraham and Sarah, to Jacob, and to many prophets. In the New Testament, angels appeared to Joseph, the guardian of Jesus. An angel helped the Prophet Mohammed write the Koran. In Buddhism there are angels called apsaras, divine, enlightened beings, bodhisattvas are beings in Buddhism who have graduated from human incarnation but choose not to go into the higher realms. They reincarnate to help people.

In the Native American traditions and in the Yorubá spirituality of Nigeria, there are spirits of the wind, the rain and the river, and there are also magical totem animals who appear with messages. In Hinduism the gods appear and represent the many aspects of the divine, embodying messages and help. In South Africa, sangomas and medicine people (nyangas) speak with ancestors and receive guidance.

A medium is different from a Spirit Guide interpreter. A medium communicates directly with deceased family members or ancestors. I can’t do that. I get messages from Guides, not from our grandmothers or grandfathers. Guides are slightly more detached from the outcomes of their advice. A grandmother or a grandfather might still have an ego attachment or connection to the person who is asking for advice.

A Guide is like a professor at a university who has been assigned to you and who is supposed to help you. That professor cares whether you pass the class, but she doesn’t do your homework.

A Guide is like a doctor who recommends medicine and exercise, but he won’t run five miles a day for you.

A Guide is like a traffic reporter in a helicopter who can see ahead on the road. Guides can warn us of possible accidents and they tell us to take detours or shortcuts to our destination, which is always ‘alignment with the Divine Will’. But humans can’t always picture what Guides see, and That’s why people have a hard time listening to messages. The advice gives them a shortcut to meet their goals but the unknown path can seem too scary.

One of the aims of the session is that the person is supposed to ask, How can I speak with my Guides all by myself? That’s so they don’t build up a dependence on any kind of psychic or medium or sangoma. I’m not saying they can’t go again to see somebody else; they have free choice. But it’s much more efficient if the person can speak with her Guides on her own.

As a Spirit Guide interpreter I hear private information. People ask questions about their most intimate problems, and I’m a translator for them. And yet I don’t have to understand the questions. When preparing for a Spirit Guide interpretation session, people write a list of questions that don’t give away the whole story. For example, they could say, Should I still be involved with Philip? They’re not saying whether Philip is their business partner, brother or lover, and I don’t actually know. Even when I give them the answer, sometimes the plot is still hidden from me.

I don’t archive the information in my own head. After a client leaves, I brush my hand down from my chest to my navel and cut off contact. I don’t continue the dial-up to that person’s Guides.

If I run into that person at the shopping centre, I won’t remember her face. People have sometimes waved at me and said Hi! and I just have a vague notion that they were clients, but recognizing them has been taken away from me. It’s almost as if my Guides give me a mild case of amnesia, and That’s a good thing. Otherwise I would be remembering the intimate details of people’s stories, and I don’t need to. It’s a blessing that the information gets deleted from my memory.

I am left not knowing. Unless I run into people who know that client and they choose to tell me. I don’t know if people keep on following the advice; I don’t know if they solve their problems, I don’t know how their lives turn out. Sometimes I get curious about it but it’s not for me to know.

In writing this book, I have been allowed to remember stories. Outlines. But I’m not putting the actual details of the people together with the stories. I’m only using a few details from each case, so the privacy of the clients is fully protected.

It’s a great joy to do this work, and it’s developing every day. I’m honing my skills, like a shoemaker, and I’m learning every moment, like an international diplomat.

I confine readings to working hours. It doesn’t work as well when it’s spontaneous. Both the client and I have to be ready for the work. That’s the only thing that drives me crazy these days – when people pitch up with no questions, thinking they can just say them instead of writing them down.

I can do readings only for strangers. As soon as I meet someone at a party, he invariably asks me if I can read his mind or if I can talk to his angels. As much as I would like to help everyone, I have an ethical boundary around doing sessions for people once I know even basic information about their lives. So I usually have to say no. Knowing nothing about the person, feels much cleaner and more ethical.

Clients sometimes ask, What if I don’t follow the Guides’ advice? What’s going to happen to me? Am I going to go to Hell? My general answer is, No, probably not Hell. But if you are bothering to ask for advice, then you should follow it. Even if it doesn’t look as if it makes sense, even if it’s scary to do. It’s the most efficient way for you to meet your goals. My advice is go for it.

Clients also ask, Do you get tired from doing these readings? This question often comes from someone who is sensitive herself, or who has an idea that she has gifts to develop. The answer is, Not if I keep myself grounded. The energy is coming from ‘above’, from the invisible world. It’s not my own energy.

If I had to sit there and think of answers and solutions for all these people, I would be exhausted after three clients. But I’m not; I’m just translating. If you’ve ever translated from one language to another, you see that you can let the words flow through you. That also helps with not remembering people’s stuff – because I don’t want to remember, if I let it flow, I don’t attach to the information.

Are you psychic for yourself? Sometimes I think it would be wonderful to know exactly what to do, but that feeds into my perfectionistic, self-criticizing nature, which I’m trying to overcome with talk therapy and a good diet. I’d love to be in a married relationship and to raise children. I’m sure I will be guided to find the partner for me. At the moment, I can’t see around the corner.

I believe I now have a healthier and more mature relationship with my own Guides. It’s still developing. I ask for help on questions that are within my range of information to know (that is, things that are in my hands to decide, not the life choices of others), and I ask only when I get really stuck. I pray all the time and thank God for all the help given me. He always gives more than enough.

Still, sometimes at the start of a session I become terribly self-conscious. I’ll welcome the client into the office and ask her to sit down across the desk from me. Then I’ll look at her face and realize she’s a 74 year old Zulu grandmother. I take a deep breath, and the self-doubt kicks in: "How do I dare say anything to this woman? She knows more about life than I ever will. She is twice my age. She’s a spiritual lady. She has powers beyond what I will ever have. What do I think I’m doing?"

She sets her piece of paper on the desk and lays her hands on it, and I hold my hands over her questions, too. Then we pray together over her questions, and my doubts recede. The information is not coming from my own mind or my own experience, but from a higher place. By the ‘Amen’, I’ve put myself in the hands of God and asked for the humility to do this work well.

And so we begin.
