About this audiobook

What happens when your past meets your present?

Luca is used to being ‘the single one’ – which is partly why she dreaded going to the wedding of an old university friend. Surrounded by faces she hasn’t seen in 10 years, Luca can feel herself being sucked back into the immature, decade-old gossip that no one seems to have forgotten.

But when Tom walks in, Luca’s heart stops. He was her ‘almost boyfriend’, and she had been completely swept off her feet by him… but he’s currently standing next to the girl he broke her heart with at a party all those years ago.

As the evening draws on and the champagne continues to flow, it’s clear that Tom can’t take his eyes off her. Will Luca’s luck in love finally take a turn?

The laugh-out-loud new novel from bestseller Portia Macintosh, perfect for fans of Sophie Ranald and Mhairi MacFarlane!

The Time of Our Lives
Author

Portia MacIntosh

Portia MacIntosh is the bestselling author of over 20 romantic comedy novels. From disastrous dates to destination weddings, Portia’s romcoms are the perfect way to escape from day to day life, visiting sunny beaches in the summer and snowy villages at Christmas time. Whether it’s southern Italy or the Yorkshire coast, Portia’s stories are the holiday you’re craving, conveniently packed in between the pages. Formerly a journalist, Portia has left the city, swapping the music biz for the moors, to live the (not so) quiet life with her husband and her dog in Yorkshire.

I listened to this because i really enjoyed another book by the same author. In this story (with different narrator) the narration was emotionally stilted, could be set to a metronome and was delivered in almost a monotone. All of which made the storyline just weird, since it was the still single 30 year old female Luca despairing about finding happiness. She sure did not sound like a person anyone would want to spend time with.
Reading in print might be an improvement however I’m not motivated to find out.

I've enjoyed most books I've read by this s author, and I love the narration of Karen Cass. I suppose this story was okay, but the narrator is awful. Her narration of male characters is...bizarre. The male characters sound like they all either have a speech impediment or emotionally stunted. It made listening very unpleasant.

This review is not for the full book because I could not get through the audio version. I absolutely love Portia MacIntosh’s books. I have listened to all her other books even more than once because they are so funny and uplifting! I really believe the narrator Karen Cass did an amazing job for Portia’s characters. I could not get into this book with a different narrator so I may have to try the print version.
