About this audiobook

LOVE TAKES NO PRISONERS

Derryth MacClaren is on the run-having been sent from her castle home to avoid capture by the vicious nobleman known as the Wolf, who has vowed revenge against the Clan Kincaid. When a surprise attack leaves her vulnerable, Derryth ends up in the hands of an enemy warrior who claims her, with the Wolf's blessing, as his prize. But her captor's gentle words and touch seduce her heart-and body-completely . . . and when she discovers the tattoo on his arm that proves him to be the legendary, long-believed dead son of the murdered Laird of Kincaid, Derryth knows she must find a way to alter his fate-and her own . . .

Cull has no memory of his family or past-all he knows is the life of a warrior, trained to fight on behalf of the Scottish king. But now that Derryth has informed him of who he really is-Cullen Braewick, the youngest son of the slain laird-he is torn. If Cull exacts revenge against the Wolf, who executed his father, he stands to lose the precious lass who he has come to love. What is he willing to sacrifice for Derryth to keep her safe . . . and in his arms?

The Warrior of Clan Kincaid
Author

Lily Blackwood

Since her earliest days, Lily Blackwood has found a friend in books. Raised an Army brat, her family moved often, and books were constant companions who always smoothed the transition to a new location and a new set of friends. Now, Lily lives Texas where she writes sexy historical romance novels about fierce Highlanders looking out over a garden tended by her own handsome, dashing husband. She suffers endless (fun and always welcome!) interruptions by her two children. And like many authors, she writes with a cat-or two-wrapped around her legs. She is the author of The Beast of Clan Kincaid, Single-Minded, and other books.

Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author...(netgalley) I am so disappointed! Buuuuuuut not in the book I am disappointed with myself, why you may ask because this is the third in this series and let me tell you it was good, so of course now I have 2 more books to read. We have Cull a loving warrior, a man who has lost his memory and does not really know who he, as he take care of Derryth he falls in love and when he finds out who he is, he is conflicted will he choose love or his family? Then we have Derryth who was sent away to protect her and ends up being kidnapped and Cull the least likely person for her to fall in love happens to be just that when she discovers something on him telling her who it is... I wont tell you more but you will not have time to get bored this will keep you on your toes. Enjoy!

Captive-captor romances are either hit or miss with me and most of the time it is miss. Which incidentally is hilarious as I love all versions of Beauty and the Beast which is of course one the most well known captive-captor romances. In this trope, there is always a power imbalance and it has to be perfectly done otherwise when the captive starts to gain the upper hand I am still too angry to move past the actions of the captor and I am unforgiving of both the captive (for being a fool) and the captor (for being a horrible character). So all of that to say that I very much enjoyed reading The Warrior of Clan Kincaid! This story absolutely follows the captive-captor trope but it was written perfectly with lots of emotion, conflict, power struggles, love, sexy times, and a little mystery as well. What made this story palatable for me was the captor character, Cull. I incredibly disliked him at the start because he was very unfeeling. Despite his detachment from most emotions he was honorable in protecting those he considered weak or in need of protection. It did not mean that he would not deal with them harshly but he at least gave them a chance to avoid harsh treatment. I completely appreciated that he stepped in when the captive character, Derryth MacClaren, was being attacked. Although he didn’t help her because she was a woman or that she was just so lovely that he had to have her, no, he stepped in because he thought that she was a child and to allow her harm would be vile. I respected his character very much even though he did push me to my limits of understanding with his disregard of civilities when it came to his captive.I loved Derryth as a captive because despite her childish and immature ways pre-captive she held it together pretty well as a captive. She was smart enough to try and keep up the ruse that she was a simple peasant and did her best not to give away her true identity. What I loved the most was the ways that she defied her captor. She was passive aggressive but the shenanigans that she tried to pull were comical!! I will tell you that there is a scene involving kittens that is just hilarious and it is not what you think! Derryth was no fool when it came to her captor but at the same time she did eventually feel some tenderness towards him. Not because he inspired grand romantic gestures but for how he took care of those around him without seeming that he cared. For all the little things that Cull did to see to her comfort both physical and emotional. Definitely an amazing example of actions speaking louder than words and it was very swoony. So yes, The Warrior of Clan Kincaid is a romance but there were also some political intrigue elements woven into this story as well as a bit of a mystery. I really enjoyed following the twists and turns that took place as well as the smoldering romance elements. By the time I read to the end of this book I had experienced several emotions such as anger, fear, heart melting romance and happiness and they were very strong emotions which made this a fabulous read! There were a few parts of the story that I felt were rushed or fell into place too easily for me but overall it didn’t take anything away from the story for me, I just wished for more during those scenes. The Warrior of Clan Kincaid was an excellent example of captive-captor romance and even more lovely was that it was a historical romance with a great period setting. I highly recommend you grab a copy! This review is based on a complimentary book I received from NetGalley. It is an honest and voluntary review. The complimentary receipt of it in no way affected my review or rating.

The Warrior of Clan Kincaid by Lily BlackwoodHighland Warrior #3A family destroyedThree sons separated for yearsA trilogy of storiesStrength, endurance & perseveranceRetribution & VengeanceHEA for all three sonsFinally we find out what happened to the youngest Kincaid brother. Cullen Braewick ended up sold into slavery when most of his family was butchered. Years later he was purchased by Buchan – The Wolf – to be trained as a warrior. Little does he know that Buchan’s agenda is one of revenge, murder and mayhem that will hurt Cull if he follows orders explicitly. Into Cull’s hands falls Derryth MacClaren. She is saved by him from a “fate worse than death” and thus begins their sparring, getting to know one another and eventual HEA. With kidnapping, misdirection, murder and more this is an action-packed story of wrong doing eventually righted and family once again together. I would like to know more about the brothers and their families further down the road but have a feeling that this may be the last book in the series…maybe? Did I enjoy the book? Yes Did I like Cull & Derryth? YesWould I read other books by this author? YesThank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review. 4 Stars
