- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Spoiler free review/description:
This is the second book in a chronicle,
Mc and pov remain consistent with the first book. Spice 0.5/5 angst 3.5/5 no trigger or content warnings that I can think of.
Slight spoilers ahead:
The mc is depicted in the first book as being very powerful and even goes on to prevent the very powerful high king from executing her in the end. The beginning of the second book is a complete 180. Rie accepted her birthright and immediately has no control or access over her powers, impostor syndrome is eating her alive. It’s such a drastic flip with no lead up and I don’t think I would’ve written it quite that way were I the author. Furthermore, when they left off in the first book, the mc and love interest were intensely and passionately fond of eachother, only for the second book to open with her having only seen him a few times in the previous several months, and never mentioning that they have progressed their relationship in title or with physical intimacy. Shortly into the beginning on book 2 she is given the opportunity to have him stay in her home for two weeks while they prepare to go to the ball mentioned in the book description. In that two week span of time they barely even kiss and she is very preoccupied with hiding her failing powers from him in a classically frustrating miscommunication trope. - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5A very Simplistic book. Not worth it Repeat self over and over the same silly things.
