About this audiobook

If you’re planning on falling in love…

When it comes to the confident, charismatic Caleb Parker, Sadie Lane feels the spark—the kind that comes from rubbing each other the wrong way. She’s yoga pants, he’s a suit. She’s a tattoo artist, he’s a straight-laced mogul. But after they accidentally co-rescue an abandoned dog from a storm, Sadie sees a vulnerable side to the seemingly invincible hottie.

you’d better be sure…

Caleb doesn’t do emotions. Growing up the underdog, he’s learned the hard way to build up an impenetrable wall. Perfect for business. Disastrous for relationships. He’s never worried about it before—not until he finally gets behind Sadie’s armor and begins to fall.

… someone is there to catch you.

Both guarded and vulnerable, Sadie and Caleb are complete opposites. Or are they? Shocked at their undeniable connection, can they ever admit to wanting more? That all depends on what they’re each willing to risk.

Sadie Lane and Caleb are setting off sparks enough to ignite a tent of fireworks from a 1000 feet away, even if one of them is working their hardest to put a damper on those combustible emissions before they have a chance to work their magic. In this case, it's Sadie putting the brakes on. Why? Because...she doesn't think she's worth it, or at least that's what it REALLY boils down to...but the thing is, Caleb is more than what he seems. I mean sure, he's gorgeous, built, well off, incredibly smart, caring, generous....*sigh* I think I'm in love...but his world wasn't always so polished, and he's bound and determined to show her the error of her way of thinking.

I gotta say, I loved it so much more than I even thought I would...the characters, their history, their triumphs and failures, their journey, and of course LOLLIPOP! OMG...the addition of this three-legged rescued furry friend was the cherry on the already irresistible sundae. You'll ride the highs, and sink with the lows, as these two work out how to get exactly what they want out of life, and love, even when it doesn't look like what they thought they wanted from the start. My only hang up....the cover. I know, I know...don't judge a book and all that, and while I totally subscribe to that mantra, I just didn't feel this one as much as the others in the series. The character representations? Spot on. The setting...I get it, but it just didn't hit the spot. Cie la vie, the story ROCKED, so regardless of your dislike or lust for the imagery, get thyself to your favorite bookstore or online portal stat and grab your copy today! Oh and yeah, older teen through adult readers only.

#instalove. This pretty much sums up this book. I loved this book. It had great humor, very likeable characters, a very cute dog, and a happy ending. Sadie and Caleb could not be more different but as the saying goes "opposites attract". These two opposites make a cute couple. Yet, I will give Sadie props for trying not to fall for Caleb so easily. She even programmed his contact information in her phone as "Do not even think about falling for this guy".Yet, I must admit that the star of the book was Lollipop. If not for Lollipop; Sadie and Caleb would not have met. If you are in the mood for a fun, lighthearted, humorous read than pick up a copy of Playing for Keeps by Jill Shalvis.

Lindas Book Obsession Reviews “Playing for Keeps” by Jill Shalvis, Avon Books, January 22.2019Jill Shalvis, Author of “Playing for Keeps” has written a delightful romantic and entertaining story. The Genres for this novel are Fiction, Women’s Fiction, Contemporary Fiction and Romance. The time-line for this story is in the present and goes to the past when it pertains to the characters or events in this story. The author describes her characters as dysfunctional, complex and complicated. What could be better than a storyline about girl meets boy, or boy meets girl and both meet dog? Tattoo-Artist Sadie Lane sees handsome, charismatic and successful Caleb Parker bending over something and talking quietly. Of course, for all of the animal lovers, it is scared dog. Both of them coax it out, and they decide to keep it. Actually just being acquaintances, they decide to co-parent and share the dog. After taking the dog to the vet, Caleb makes sure that the dog has everything she needs to be comfortable. They do send each other proof of life pictures of the dog when it is each one’s turn to have her. Both Sadie and Caleb, have their own secretive pasts. Sadie is barely making ends meet, and has the pressure of her sister’s wedding. Caleb does have support from his sisters who tend to investigate any girl he is seeing for his protection. Caleb comes from a hard background as well, and underneath his hard shell is a kind and giving guy. To protect herself from and emotional pain, Sadie plays hard to get, and has a hard shell as well.I appreciate that the author discusses handicapped pets, emotional problems, family, friendship, communication, love, and hope. I would recommend this enjoyable novel for readers who enjoy this genre. Happy Reading!

I enjoyed this romance. I received this for free and I voluntarily chose to review this. I've given it a 4.7* rating. This is not for the under 18 readers because of sexual content and dirty language. One of the nice things was the rescued dog. Lots of fun things because of that. Two broken people are drawn to each other and acceptance of their ways. There is a lot of forgiving and healing in this story not just for them but family also. Felt like a roller coaster ride.

I loved this book! This is the seventh book in the Heartbreaker Bay series but it can easily be read as a stand-alone novel. Fans of the series will enjoy checking in with some much-loved characters. I have enjoyed all of the books in this series so I was pretty eager to read this newest installment and it did not disappoint. Once I started reading this book, I didn't want to put it down and felt swept away by the story.Caleb and Sadie are the focus of this book along with their little dog, Lollipop. The book opens with Caleb and Sadie finding a stray dog in the rain. They both are ready to accept responsibility for the dog and end up deciding to share custody of the pup. Of course, this means that the pair will be seeing a lot of each other as they pass the dog back and forth.Caleb and Sadie are both great characters. Sadie's past was rather heartbreaking and her relationship with her family wasn't great. I think that learning about her past really gave the reader a lot of insight into her personality. She is very independent and refused to ask anyone for help. Caleb is rich and highly intelligent. He is also a very hard worker and quite generous. He is very close to his family but has spent a lot of his life being protected by them.I loved watching this pair fall in love. I think that they had great chemistry with each other and I enjoyed all of their interactions. Caleb wants to take care of Sadie when he sees that she needs things but that didn't mean that he thought she wasn't capable. I liked that they both had to give and take a bit and when they were upset they talked about it.I would recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance. This was a heartwarming romance with fantastic characters and an adorable dog. I can't wait to read more from Jill Shalvis!I received a digital review copy of this book from Tasty Book PR via Book Funnel.

For a year Caleb Parker and Sadie Lane have seen one another around. With the Pacific Pier Building a hive of business and friendships and both Caleb and Sadie often in the area it is not surprising that they would see one another over the past year when there for business or pleasure. One night their lives change when they take on the challenge of co-owning an abandoned dog. With forced exchanges of three-legged Lollipop, frequent Lollipop-updates via tex messages and eventually more personal messages between them the two begin to leave their preconceptions misconceptions behind and really get to know one another. As their backstories come out I began to know and really like Caleb and Sadie and see how they might be able to have a future together...well...maybe. Sadie did have a bit more trust and communication issues than Caleb did and her family issues were perhaps harder to surmount than Caleb’s were BUT as the story unfolded the two did finally figure out what was important to them and it just happened to be being a couple. Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review. 5 Stars

Playing for Keeps by Jill Shalvis is a 2019 Avon Publication. I’m always happy to return to the Heartbreaker Bay series. So far, each chapter in the series has been a little whimsical and maybe a bit quirky. This book begins with a similar tone as the other books in the series, with Sadie and Caleb adopting an adorable dog named ‘Lollipop’ and becoming co- pet parents. However, Sadie and Caleb are complete opposites. Their attraction to each other is like mixing oil and water. Caleb has dealt with some heavy issues in his past, but he’s taken big strides toward maturation, although he still hides behind emotional barriers, and his sister’s overabundance of caution and extreme protectiveness. Sadie on the other hand- Well, Sadie is still coping with a lot of baggage she can’t quite seem to shake off. In Sadie, the reader sees someone struggling not only with a haunted past, but with some bitterness, and the immature need to rebel, still trying to shock and offend. Of all the books in this series, to date, this one feels a little more serious. Shalvis always has an uncanny knack for addressing uncomfortable topics, while keeping the tone light. Her humor always offsets the heaviness in any given situation. This time, however, the whimsy, charm, humor, felt forced and often falls a bit flat. Despite that, the story is still a very compelling read. Sadie’s issues would test the patience of Job, but so would Caleb’s sisters!! I am glad, however, that Shalvis addressed a topic rarely explored in romance novels of this caliber. Although I found this couple to be more of a challenge than most, their happily ever after may have been the most rewarding, in some ways. Perceptions, expectations, family, acceptance, and forgiveness are adeptly woven into the story. Caleb and Sadie defy all the odds against them and at the end of the day, this is what makes this book stand out. In all honesty, I struggled with this one just a little bit and I can’t, in one hundred percent honesty, tell you this is my absolute favorite book of the series. It almost felt a little like the black sheep of the family, going off on a different course from the others. However, I still think the outcome was worth the extra patience this couple seemed to require. Of course I was, as always, happy to see this couple, and Lollipop, get their long overdue happily ever after.3.5 stars

Sadie Lane has to be the most heartbreaking character that Jill Shalvis has ever written about. The idea of someone cutting themselves can easily be misunderstood. It’s not about the act itself but about having a way to control their pain & situation. In this case, Sadie’s family misunderstood & instead of getting her the right kind of help, they created more pain & hurt by forcing the wrong help on her. For someone fighting for control of their feelings & pain, taking that control away is the worst thing & can cause a lot of damage. Sadie has so many shields up that nobody gets completely through them. Caleb senses the pain & mistrust that is such a huge part of Sadie & knows he has to take it slow. One step at a time, he manages to sneak past her barriers but it’s always one step forward, two back. Sadie begins to open up as she realizes Caleb has a background that’s far from perfect too. I loved the way rescuing Lollipop not only brought them together but also opened their hearts the first step. Sadie had to realize he wasn’t just the “suits” he wore & has a tender side. They both lowered their guard due to the empathy for the abandoned three legged dog. She was so cute & quickly became very spoiled!! Sadie may not have had a perfect family that understood her but the guys at the tattoo parlor became her big brothers & were always looking out for her. This wasn’t a lighthearted quick read but I felt it really made me think & engaged my sympathy & emotions. I couldn’t put it down!
