About this audiobook

The last thing Blue Hendricks needs six months into his uneasy reentry into civilian life is trouble in the form of his old friend's kid sister, all grown up and smack in the middle of a dangerous murder investigation. But he didn't become a SEAL to turn his back on the hard stuff, and he can't bring himself to ignore Everly's call for help-no matter how much he knows he's not fit to be around the soft, vibrant woman she's become. Not after the things he's done.

Everly Campbell is desperate. When her roommate is murdered and the body vanishes, Everly fears she might be next. With no one to believe her, Everly runs to a remote Alaskan town to find a man she only vaguely remembers and his crew of ex-military brothers who could be her only hope. Blue wants to keep things all business but Everly isn't a little girl anymore and the commanding former SEAL is more temptation than she can resist.

As the men on Everly's trail draw closer, Blue will do anything to protect the woman he's starting to think of as his . . .

Everly Campbell needs help. The first one she thinks of is a boy who lived across the street from her when she was a child and who was her childhood hero. She hasn't seen Blue Henricks since she was seven - twenty years ago. She tracks him down in Grizzly Harbor, Alaska.Blue Hendricks left his unhappy home at seventeen and joined the Navy. He has spent the past twenty years as a Navy SEAL seeing and doing things that have almost broken him. When he gets out of the service, he chases a myth to Alaska to find some purpose for his life. He finds a special ops unit in Grizzly Harbor and tries to regain his balance.Everly's roommate was murdered in their shared apartment, but when Everly gets back from running for the police, no trace of the crime remains. Opinions are that Everly is losing her mind. After a month of living in terror, she knows she needs help.Blue tries to discourage her and he certainly doesn't want to have any sort of personal relationship with Everly, but he agrees to help her. They return to Chicago where Blue digs deeper into the mystery that was Everly's roommate and where he protects her from all threats, including him. Everly isn't afraid of Blue no matter what sort of things he says and does. She needs to convince him that he is not a monster, but is in fact her hero. This was an intense romance mixed with an interesting mystery. Both main characters were fascinating people.

3.25 StarsA contemporary and suspenseful romance between a military hunk and the girl next door from his childhood. This novel is the first in a new series and although the romance isn't exactly sizzling, the characters are interesting, especially the supporting ones in the Alaskan wilderness. It's good enough to explore the next installment. Penguin First to Read Galley
