About this audiobook

A Green Beret's gripping memoir of American Special Forces in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War

In 1970, on his second tour to Vietnam, Nick Brokhausen served in Recon Team Habu, CCN. Officially, it was known as the Studies and Observations group. In fact, this Special Forces squad, which Brokhausen calls "an unwashed, profane, ribald, joyously alive fraternity," undertook some of the most dangerous and suicidal reconnaissance missions ever in the enemy-controlled territory of Cambodia and Laos. But they didn't infiltrate the jungles alone. They fought alongside the Montagnards-oppressed minorities from the mountain highlands, trained by the US military in guerilla tactics, armed, accustomed to the wild, and fully engaged in a war against the North Vietnamese. Together this small unit formed the backbone of ground reconnaissance in the Republic of Vietnam, racking up medals for valor-but at a terrible cost.

Written by a soldier for soldiers. It is funny, bloody, sad, and real.

This book is amazing. I had recently finished don bendels series. His books are specific to MIKE and hatchet forces and were excellently written and narrated. However, this story I must admit was EXCELLENT the narrator was very good and the story was hilarious and tragically real. IT IS A MUST READ for anyone interested in SF Vietnam combat memoirs.
    Enjoy

6 stars. Fantastic insight into the real way of the world and with a writing style that just got to me and held me. I want the movie rights!

Really enjoyed the book. However, the narrator's mispronunciation of covey was distracting.

Great book. Really funny and after hearing about all the antics they got up to then hearing in the last chapter that the Australians were as bad as the Visigoths for terrorising civil society I have to wonder about them ?

One of, if not the best book on SOG teams I have yet listened to. Narrator is perfect for this book! Author is amazing in ability to take you there, right along side him.

I thought I was there, the characters were true to life as were the memoires of this SF warrior.

A rather disappointing book. This book was more about the off duty antics of this recon team and less about the missions.
